I visited REI recently and had the pleasure of being helped by Ines. She was so sweet and helpful, it was a pleasure meeting her! REI is lucky to have such a lovely employee! This was my first time in an REI and it was such a cool place! I got some clothes and gear I needed and got to see some cute dogs, too. Also, Casey was very helpful. Will definitely be visiting again!

Coming from Florida, this place was massive by comparison. Very friendly staff. The shopping area where the store is located is setup as a town so parking around the store is free street parking, but limited.

I came in to pick up some rain gear for a hike and to also try and link my REI membership to my app. Casey patiently worked with me to get the account linked and was outgoing and helpful. The staff here left a glowing impression on me and I can't wait to return to this lovely store and it's wonderful people!

Went in to REI to check out the bikes. Haven’t been on one in forever and was a little intimidated. Joe waited on me and was a great experience. Was patient and answered all my questions. Set me up on a bike for a test ride. Was the perfect choice. Thanks Joe!

I recently purchased a bike from REI and thought when I picked it up I'd bring in my sons ride for a front shock and brake diagnosis. I ended up having ~$100 work done to my sons bike. Full disclosure....I have worked on bikes for over 40 years, but disk brakes and the different bleed kits still elude me, and I currently don't have space for tooling. Unfortunately, after the service, the brakes were still an issue. Additionally, I had installed a new chain but ended up removing too many links (I just needed a new pin to adjust the length). So...I brought the bike back in, discussed the issues, and thought I had agreed to addressing the brake, and a new chain pin ($2). When the bill was later emailed to me, in addition to the work I had agreed to and the $2 chain pin charge, it also had a charge of $20 for a chain installation! When I came in to pick up the bike and mentioned the chain installation charge, I was very emphatically denied by Joe, whom I believe is the manager. I was also told that I had discussed the installation, which was simply not true. I was a big fan of REI prior to this. I think REI is good, maybe even great, at what they do best, selling hiking and camping gear. I'd advise others, at least in the Asheville area, to consider using an actual bike shop, there are plenty. Most local shops are looking to gain long term customers, and will not pull this kind of petty nonsense. I will not use REI again for my cycling needs, but I'll try to overlook this incident for my other outdoor gear.

REI, Biltmore Park, Asheville NCI love REI so this is not an unbiased review.Every store is a little different. This store has 2 levels with clothing and shoes on the upper floor and all the gear on the main floor. There’s always a good selection of anything you could possibly want for hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, and any other non redneck outdoor sport.

If you want to talk to an employee for a recommendation or pick up an order, good but the store just doesn't keep lots of inventory of anything. It's abt 1/3 full compared to pre-pandemic but that's a corporate trend. Online is far superior.

This location is anti union. Used to be a frequent REI customer (for 30 years.) it’s hard for active outdoorsy people to avoid. It’s our Walmart. That has become more and more true, in recent years. They have clearly demonstrated a disinterest in meeting the human needs of their employees. Their ethics no longer align with traditional co op ethics. I do commend their action against PFAS but I can no longer support REI, until they become a pro union company. They keep laying off more and more tenured employees every time their earnings decline. They take action against union organizers. They preference seasonal and part time workers. Their compensation has not kept up with cost of living. Hopefully they soon figure out that their core customer base is educated and aware of this stuff.

The best! Knowledgeable staff, awesome selections for safe & hassle-free outdoor recreation. Also love their return policy in case of poor fit or other needs for a merchandise return.

Your typical REI store, nothing more, nothing less. A lot of products and very well organized. Clean facility. Some helpful staff members but others not so much.

Pretty rude staff, I’ve been a member for five years but doubt I’ll ever shop again at rei. Go out and support your local shops, not some conglomerate who is so out of touch with the outdoor industry.

Went to the asheville nc store today. Everything went great. This location has a used gear buying program. Looked and found a pair of used hoka shoes (the toe on both shoes were peeling back) i could fix with shoe glue which I would've only worn them to work. my size for $44. Went to check out and was told only rei members were allowed to buy used gear. They said I could pay an extra $30 on top of the $44 for a lifetime membership which would be useless to me because I never shop there. No thanks to almost $80 tax and all for a pair of shoes that were used and damaged. What a stupid program just think of how much money they lose a year because you have to be a member to buy used items. I'll never shop rei again and tell everyone how stupid this program is.

My experience started off good with great parking at this REI. Then the customer service person was kind and helpful. Pre-ordering my supplies was easy and convenient. I appreciate having such a good store in the area.

Nice staff, clean store, but I rarely shop from REI. Even after expressing this, the check-out employee hounded me about becoming a member multiple times even after I politely declined the first time. Pushed it three more times and commented about my payment method and how I could totally work out becoming a member.

Climbing shoes began to come apart at the seams after 2 uses. Not permitted to exchange or return due to that being “normal wear and tear” and was told “they wear out quickly”. Never had a product last so few uses. Stores usually stand behind their products and try to provide customer satisfaction, not in this case I guess?

Excellent variety of outdoor gear. Selection is often poor for larger sizes. High prices as usual. Very helpful sales staff. Worth a look. We came to stock up on freeze dried food this trip. Separate section for bike gear we didn't check out.

The store was very heavy in rock climbing and biking. Very few other outdoor activities had a large selection. The kids section was also super small. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Store was well organized and clean.

Make sure you check the packaging of the product you’re buying. They are selling used/opened items for retail price. I bought a leatherman for my dad as a Father’s Day gift, then when I got the the car I noticed the box had been taped back up. Upon further inspection I noticed the actual tool had scratches all over it. When I went back in to exchange it, I noticed most of the selection was used and put back on the shelf in used condition for full price. Luckily I did find one tool that doesn’t appear to be used, but it was the last one. Be cautious.

I have to admit I have never been in an REI before. Staff was helpful and friendly. The store itself felt a bit beat up or rustic, depending on your perspective. I wasn't aware they deal in used gear. Fun fact!

The 100% satisfaction guaranteed is very misleading. I bought a $165 pair of Hoka shoes because the sales person convinced me I would love them. That the cushioning would provide the relief I needed for plantar fasciitis. They did. At six months I realized the cushioning was completely gone and plantar fasciitis was back. Since I had been told they had a one year warrantee, 100% satisfaction guarantee, I went back to the store. They said that doesn’t include wear and tear. Since I only wear them to the Y for dance classes twice a week and weight/strength classes 3 days a week I would not expect the shoe to break down that quickly. It didn’t seem like normal wear and tear to me. Generally my shoes last a year to a year and a half.So even though there is no small print under their 100% satisfaction guaranteed there most certainly is.
