This shop is just fine. I went the same day as other reviewers. Having been to countless fish shops and knowing dozens of people that make a living off of the aquarium industry this place is just fine! It’s not all about shiny floors. This shop has obviously been here a while. They wouldn’t be in business if they weren’t doing something right. All livestock was healthy and fairly priced. I see no issues here. It’s a pet store, only a handful of the creatures you see there live there permanently. The enclosures are well kept, lit, and filtered. One of the best fish shops I have been to. I have an appreciation for the old-school vibe. Don’t be fooled by uneducated people, if you know anything about pet stores this place feels great.

A bit of a disaster area, great fish spiders and reptiles, but the condition of the store makes you wonder if it's going to be standing tomorrow. Staff is a bit off as if they have something shady going on in the back room.

Best pet store in wnc! The fish live when you bring them home.... also aquarium plants are great. Prices are good and the staff knows their stuff.... don't waste you time going anywhere else. I've kept fish for 40 years.

Overall it was not a bad place, a little pricey but not a bad place. The gentleman i spoke with there seemed very knowledgeable snd very caring. People need to keep in mind that in the end this is a pet store, not a final home for these animals. As for the larger reptiles like the big Monitors. They are not bought in, they were unexpected drop offs and doing their best with what they have. Also they stay after and let the large Monitors free roam. So again, not a bad place at all.

The store has an amazing selection of fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and inverts. The small animal section could use some better care and more space for their breeder rabbits. Really good range of products overall.

All these negative reviews about how this place is run..... you guys dont know the owner he spends time with every animal after hours , ive watched him take in injured birds reptiles fish etc and nurse / raise them to release , ive never seen a baby robin get mad at a human for not feeding it as if it was its mother until i met these guys. I mean it literaly was not old enough to fly. I cant think of anyone more qualified to care for animals and yeah he walks around barefoot... its his shop its a local store , the gentleman is a wild guy at heart who loves animals and he has saved more than i can count , always knows how to fix a problem and can get you anything even parts and things you cant find anywhere else. The enclosures are small as are almost all pet stores but aquatic fish have always been healthier from this place than comercial stores and the prices are better. Can you buy an electric catfish at petsmart ? No..... can you buy 500 minnow for 50$ at petsmart ? Nope costs 69.98 plus tax for 200...... and then they have parasites ...... seriously wish people would stop bashing this place about things they dont understand or know anything about.

This place is just awful. The tanks are grimy and small. Every animal in here looks sickly and none of them have the proper living conditions. How is this place even open? Please do not support them, they have no idea how to care for a common fish let alone exotic animals.

Would be 0☆.Tanks are musty as ALL GET OUT. Nothing is labeled with a price tag and it is hardly a consumer friendly establishment. They are keeping animals in enclosures that are much too small for them and in the end I didn't find what I needed! (A 30 gallon tank that would fit a 1 year ball python, substrate And some natural looking tank decor) the staff was also walking around barefoot with his grimy feet a' SLAPPIN on the linoleum. the next closest store to me is a petsmart which I ended up having to resort to but even they keep their water clear!

I only pushed a star to make the review work. This place has all of its animals in absolute filth none of them have tanks big enough to house them and none of them look healthy. This place is absolutely disgraceful I am literally sick to my stomach to think those animals live like that. The owners and managers of this building should be ashamed.

I've been here a few times over the past 10 year's (have had a tank with fresh water fish over the course of 15 years off and back again), great prices and better choices, healthier fish, and much cheaper products than most pet stores! More choices than pet stores as far as fish go. I'm a Monster Fish Owner and they have a better option to choose from if you want big fish in your tank! Also, if you own reptiles, their reptilian necessities are super cheap! Friendly and helpful workers, I give all 5 stars for sure!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen more stressed animals in my life. I don’t know how this place is still open. The animals are neglected, enclosures are way too small, and basic needs are not met. It was miserable, and not to mention, very unsanitary.

Out of the way, but a nice selection,Will order fish for you, if you call on Sunday.Friendly, helpful staff.Older store, but all animals in well maintained tanks, and enclosures.Prices are very competitive and they have a large selection of fish.Some birds, spiders, lizards, big lizards, a large snapper turtle, and a big toad.Lots of stuff to look at.

DO NOT GO HERE. This place is truly abhorrent. ALL animals are being abused. The animal husbandry here is a million times worse than PetSmart.. which is pretty hard but somehow they've accomplished that. Staff knows how awful everything is and they do not care. They have been reported to the appropriate authorities.

My partner and I stopped here on our way to a state park nearby. We are both really into aquariums, have a parrot, and recently got a snake so we were super excited. To say this store is dirty is an under statement. Dark, dingy, no air flow and birds in small cages. No greeting when we walked in. No prices on anything. Weird enclosures with multiple snakes crowded inside, a huge monitor in such a small tank... we honestly can't get over how filthy this place is. I was interested in asking about the sickly looking Senegal parrot just bc my heart was breaking for it but was made so uncomfortable, I didn't even ask...

The most abhorrent pet "care" store I've ever seen. Every animal is being kept in life threatening conditions, which is probably why half of them look like they're about to die. I doubt it's a coincidence that every review with pictures shows completely different animals than last time, since they're obviously replacing the ones that die

It’s really a wonder how this place is still up and running. They clearly do not and have not for a while now, had the funds to properly care for the animals they keep in their facility. If they do than that just goes to show what kind of people own this place. The only remotely “decent” setups they have are for the fish, even then they’re clearly not being looked after. It’s seriously a shame to see such mistreatment of animals.

This place is absolutely despicable. I have never left a bad review for anywhere in my life until today. Birds in the smallest cages I’ve ever seen (literally a parrot in a cage meant for a parakeet or finches). Breeding rabbits posted “not for sale” while secluded in cages they can barely stand in, while being covered in their own urine. The monitor by the door when you walk in is absolutely in a tank way too small. The giant turtle in the middle of the store is sickly and too big for its habitat. The larger fish are being kept in small tanks that will defect their growth. The beta fish are kept in separate areas smaller than half of my hand. I could go on and on. I have no idea how the owners can run such a place in good conscience. Do not by any means contribute to this business (unless your desire is to just rescue some of these animals from their mistreatment), it’s also overpriced for the conditions anyway. Any previous reviews you see saying the same thing I have are absolutely true. Overall, the place just made me extremely sad

So I decided to go here today. No I wasn't greeted at the door, they gave me space to look (which I like) loved to see the big lizards, they were beautiful, once entering into the store I seen them taking care of the reptiles. I asked questions and they were answered. Then I went to the reptile supplies. I found almost everything I was looking for. After being there for a good 30 minutes, they asked me if I needed help, which I then ordered my crickets. Cages looked clean with rabbits and rats in them of course there is a smell (it houses animals) but over all I enjoyed myself very much. They aren't in your face pet smart workers but are pleasant enough. Yes I heard one employee with a not so perfect language, but weren't words that I haven't used myself.

If I could leave 0 stars I definitely would. This place is HORRIBLE. The conditions these animals live in are absolutely disgusting and neglectful. There is more concern by them about selling animals for as much as I can than there is about actually caring for any of the animals. There is no excuse for these animals to be being treated like this. To anyone considering a pet from here, do yourself a favor and go somewhere that actually cares about their pets as much as they do making a buck. I really hope this place gets shut down.

All the one star reviews are accurate, but you can't really appreciate how horrendous this place is without seeing it yourself. I don't know how they're still open. It's been like this for years. It's common for chain pet stores to give incorrect husbandry advice, but because this is a small independent store with a wide variety of animals, I assumed what they told me about geckos was true. Luckily I didn't buy one there and learned how to properly care for them before I got them, because if I'd done what they suggested, it would have gone very poorly. **This can be reported to the North Carolina Attorney General's Animal Welfare Hotline and I urge anyone who has seen this to file a complaint with them.**

The employees there on Sunday morning were rude and unfriendly. They basically ignored me the whole time unless it was to shut me down for asking if I could hold reptiles. They do have a good selection but very poor sales people. I would recommend a new staff. One of the staff members was also barefoot, gross!

Horrible experience! All the animals are in tiny enclosures way to small to be the bare minimum. The store was between 80⁰ (at the lowest) and 120⁰ (at the highest). The reptiles have no heat source which is an absolute must. I am very surprised that petco and petstart has a world of difference in treatment to their animals even though they are just a large store. I was very disappointed by my experience and truly hope that no one will give them any business. These animals are clearly abused and I truly hope something happens and these animals are put in a better situation. They have injured animals and don't even know what they are selling them for. They are outrageously priced for the state they are in especially for the care and vet costs they need.

Do not support this place. If you do not have the funds to at least provide these animals proper heat and lighting then shrink your stock. Petsmart has better husbandry than what I am seeing here.

Wow! This has the best selection of exotic pets that I have ever seen. The staff was super friendly and truly cared about the animals living spaces. My only regret was that I didn't find this place sooner. Hopefully I will get to be a breeder for them one day, it means a lot to a breeder to know his animals are cared for so compassionately. Kudos!

I don’t see how the staff “truly” care about the animals. Place should be cleaner. Supplies on the shelf’s where dusty. They need to do monthly clean outs. Whip everything down so the dust isn’t as bad. To many animals need bigger tanks to live in. The lizard at the door needs to be upgraded to a bigger tank along with the rabbits. They are to big for their cages. Fish tanks need to be cleaned. All around place is gross and unprofessional!!

I share Brittany's review exactly (7 msgs down)....this place is not giving quality care to the animals for all the reason's she stated. I wanted to buy the Parrot and the Cockatoo just to give them a better quality of life...it's the saddest thing I have seen in a store...the store looks like an old country store and I found myself looking at expiration dates that were a year over date....I wish we could help the animals there. Store clerks were very slow as stated....knowledgeable just not enough employees working there....took me 20 minutes to check out and that was with finally asking one to come to the checkout counter and check out my one item.
