Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior of this restaurant, or for that matter, the interior. This is some of the best seafood I have ever had in my entire life. We were a little disappointed since they did not have oysters or soft shell crabs but we found some other stuff that we really loved. (They say they only have local fresh seafood, so you should expect there are things on the menu they might not have on any given night.) The sheet crab soup was spectacular. Creamy and full of crab. The pan seared scallops were probably the best scallops I've ever had. Crispy, yet tender and cooked to perfection. The lump crab and shrimp sauteed combo was five star. You could put this in any classy restaurant and charge triple the amount. The absolute best I've ever tasted. Service was excellent, with a very friendly staff. When we come back to the area I promise you we will be back to Gary's!

Excellent! More than just seafood, so I was able to feed the whole family... even the picky eaters. The service is what shines here. Thank you Taylor for a great dining experience! We are already looking forward to our next visit.

This was by far my favorite eating spot for my trip! The place was filled with antique decorations and funny signs! Catfish sandwich($6.99!!!!!) was huge with a wonderful, crispy breading. Lots of options for sides. I suggest the fried okra! As soon as you see a waitress, you get a basket of the best tasting hushpuppies I've ever eaten! All their success are homemade! Tartar sauce was amazing!!! Limited days and hours open, so check website.

Not sure why I'm just getting around to reviewing Gary's Down East Seafood. I've been going here on and off almost 20 years. Even with staff changes and ownership changes the food remains solid every visit. I'm very thankful we have such a great place to eat a wide variety of food. It's not cheap but it's consistently good. From seafood to burgers it's hard to beat Gary's. Thank you.

First I'd like to say I really enjoy eating at Gary's every time we go or get take-out, the staff there is also great people, I'd recommend anyone to try their food the chef definitely knows what he's doing! Love the food & staff & beautiful atmosphere!Wheelchair accessibility: The way the restaurant is set up there's definitely room for people whom need wheelchair access.

Okay I dislike take out windows. First of all I am paying the same price as if I were to dine inside. Why should I have to walk outside to a little window like I'm a second rate human? The food was very good. And I really didn't like the girl in the window, you have to be easy on a virgin orderer with no previous menu knowledge. But in the end I fell for the window girl. She was awesome attending to my every concern. I will go again, but probably prefer to eat inside.

I think the photo speaks for itself. You’ve never had scallops or shrimp this good. The fish fillet in the fish sandwich is huge!

Wonderful lunch! Loved she crab soup and clam chowder. Salad with shrimp and crab appetizer added to it was great, as was the popcorn shrimp.Update from 7/2023:I had family visiting and wanted to serve them BBQ; I tried the local BBQ restaurants and felt the BBQ I had from there at local events was better. I ordered She Crab Soup, Crab Cakes, and BBQ and was thrilled with how excellent they all were. Surprisingly the local Seafood restaurant made BBQ better than the BBQ locations in the area. The potato salad and coleslaw were also great.In addition, when I went to order food for the family visit they were very accommodating and gave me everything I needed.I highly recommend them, the service was outstanding.

We go to this ( Gary's Down East Seafood) restaurant from time to time and we always had a pleasant experience. The dishes are delicious and always looking forward to order their popcorn shrimp. I wished it will be winter so I can get to order the fish soup.Absolutely takes care of their customers, that's why we keep coming back.

I heard good things about this seafood restaurant and I'm glad we went. The crab cake appetizer is full of fresh crab meat very good. My fiancee and I shared a 4 items seafood and it is more than enough for both of us (jumbo scallops were sweet, oysters, flounder and local shrimps were all fresh). Tyler was very friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and just a very nice fellow. The tartar sauce is definitely home made. Thanks for preparing a delicious dinner. We will be back.

We had heard from several locals that Gary’s was a good place to eat and get seafood. We went in and the place is very cute with nautical items and it smelled amazing (good seafood cooking). I had the pan seared scallops and they were the best I have ever had. The soups (the clam chowder and the she crab) were both very delicious as well. My husband had the crab cakes and he said they were incredible and he had never had so much crab in a crab cake before (he is very picky so this is a big compliment). My kids had the lump crab and shrimp and they all loved them. We got key lime pie and chocolate cake for dessert and they were amazing as well. Gary greeted us as we entered and he (as well as the waitress) were very kind and the service was very prompt. I would very much recommend this restaurant in the little town of Arapahoe, NC.

Have eaten here several times.. fantastic seafood !! etc.. impressed with the new one's running the place 👍👍To add to my reviewHusband and I had an anniversary dinner here , he is still commenting on the dinner we had. Service here is all around fantastic, the presentation excellent . I have introduced several of my friends from out of town and not one bad comment. Several have posted their comments. They have something for everyone's taste and they certainly go out of their way to make sure there customers are happy.. a small towns treasure this place is!!👌

Extremely average meal. Nothing was particularly hot. Fried okra wasn't very crispy. Flounder was overly "fishy" like it had been fried in old oil. Shrimp was average, a bit overcooked. Waitress was super.

Best evening ever! This place did not disappoint! We are staying in Minnesott Beach and we didn’t have a lot of restaurants in the area to choose from. It ended up being the best food yet of the week. Our food was wonderful! Homemade desserts! The staff was awesome! It has a cute vibe inside. Their was a group that flew a helicopter abs landed next door… they flew in from New Bern to have dinner. They close by 7:30 and place is usually packed around 5:30-6

I don’t like writing poor reviews. It’s trying times for restaurants with staff shortage ect….. however, this is not the first time here over the last three years and nothing has changed to make me leave a better review.I hoped new owners would improve the food and service. It appears they are happy with the previous status.We were with another couple for lunch. One of their “draws” is the locally acquired beef for burgers. We aimed to try the beef, but we’re told that it was frozen and unavailable. Ok… regular burger it is. No taste. Burger was a good size, requested it All the way, the chili was a small smear of something resembling…sauce.I ordered the dinner size popcorn chicken with two sides rather than the lunch size because I was hungry and hoped to have some to take home. I also ordered the twice baked potato and onion rings. The shrimp was old, chewy and not Chrissy. The twice baked potato was half of a baked potato with some shredded cheese and bacon bits on top. Onion rings were crispy. Very disappointed in the food once again.The waitress provided service but without any humor or a smile. She could have cared less about serving us. The place was not crowded, so she was not busy hustling around helping other tables. It is the same waitress that has been there for years. I assume she is a local and everyone knows to expect this.Truthfully, I do not know why people travel to Gary’s to eat. The best thing on the menu was the alcohol selection.Sorry, but I did give them multiple chances before the review.

We found this amazing restaurant yesterday and started asking the locals about it. They were right is was amazingly wonderful. Thank you Tyler for making us feel welcome. I would say the best fresh shrimp I have eaten. We will definitely be back again soon.
