The service here can be disappointing. They have a couple of long-time cashiers that are wonderful and very attentive. However, several of the young women they have hired recently need to get off their phones!!! Teach them customer service and don’t allow your employees to eat at the register!!!The managers standby and do nothing. If you see the checkout lines backing up, help out!! The management is the worst!! Prices are a close second. Even though this store is a block from my apartment I actually go out of my way to buy groceries elsewhere because I don’t want to give you money for overpriced staples and inconsistent service. Get a clue!

Good spot for basic grocery, especially for people who live in the northern area of the island. They changed some of their brands (no more ShopRite), but still I find most of their products are way overpriced. The manager is nice and ready to help, but some people at the cashier are quite rude

Many expired items. Extremely high prices, why?If they had good quality & competitive prices maybe they wouldn’t lose business to fresh direct & other supermarket delivery service. We’ll see if Foodtown is any better.

Mediocre quality all around. Prices are pretty darn steep. I'd honestly say to wait for the Saturday Farmer's market to get some of your groceries. The produce here isn't the freshest. The only cheaper item here I've seen here is the off brand Lactose free milk here for $0.90 cheaper than the other groceries here on the island. Other than that, overpriced. You're honestly better off ordering groceries online from Amazon and getting the box delivered to your door step. Dairy items of course from a store. Produce from the farmers market.Just to mention, I've never had a bad experience with the staff here.

Came over to RI this morning to drop someone off and wait for them. Decided to check out Gristede's and pick up a few things while I waited. NOT HAPPENING. The store is a mess, looks like it needs an upgrade. Lots of space with nothing in it; broken display cases and empty old shelves are what you see. ALL ITEMS ARE OVERPRICED with very limited variety. This is nothing like the Gristede's I remember seeing in other boroughs years ago. I think it needs an overhaul and probably a new supermarket entirely. There are lots of others that would probably give much better service and product assortment to the RI residents and of course better prices. The residents deserve more; especially since it is the only supermarket on the island. I am hopeful that within the new year they are shut down and a new supermarket is on the agenda.

I would give this Gristedes negative five stars if I could. This store is disgusting and sadly the only full-fledged grocery store on Roosevelt Island, so they know they have you and therefore don’t care to keep it clean or its meats and produce fresh. I just, for the second time in two weeks, threw out chicken because it went bad within two days of purchase. The store is usually filthy, most of its staff surly and it is **ridiculously** overpriced for the quality of service and products you received. Management and corporate should be embarrassed. If you plan to buy meats, freeze or cook them immediately and use produce ASAP, too, because it will go bad quickly. Or, better yet, go to Wholesome down the street or any other store if you’re able.

The store has certainly made improvements and is much (smells) cleaner. That said, always check the expiration dates. Avoid shopping there on Sunday's. Sunday's seem to be when then run low on many items before their next shipment arrives. All in all it comes in handy when you have to run out for those last minute items. ;-)

Overpriced for the most part, some called it 'Priceytedes'! We only go here if we're desperate really. There's no customer service. The manager's specials are usually OK value for money though. Found they were selling expired rice cakes - past their sell by date by 6 months! Think it's understaffed - the coffee and donut area is unmanned. Shame.

The supermarket is big in interior. However the product categories are quite limited in my opinion. The clerks are usually not that friendly, and the price of products are rather high than other chained supermarkets. Nevertheless, it is still an acceptable supermarket on Roosevelt island for buying groceries. There are also a variety of discounts by applying the diamond card of Gristede’s.

This gristedes has had a major face lift for the better. They now have a variety of organic, gluten free items. There is a hot bar area and seating outside. The produce here has been pretty good when I've had it. This is also the location of an amazon locker. It's the only supermarket on the island, and now it's worth walking to.

AVOID. One star shout out to this heinously over priced market. I wish I could give a 1/32 of a star. Hopefully they realize that their awful "blonde" cashier is turning away customers. She is rude to me every time I go through her checkout. At first I avoided her when I could, but now I'm avoiding this store all together, not worth the hassle.

As the only supermarket in the island, you have to deal with rude staff, overpriced items, expired food, out stock products all the time, in summary, a disaster. I bought a pound of ham recently, the ham was rotten. They didn't apologize, but worst, they kept that obnoxious ham in the refrigerator. This place needs an inspection ASAP.

The only good thing about this place is it's location in Roosevelt Island. It's convenient to those who live there, and it also has an Amazon box to pick up deliveries.Other than that, everything there is overpriced, and virtually all the items could be bought in supermarkets in the other boroughs.

I've had untold amounts of problems here after living on Roosevelt Island for 9 months. The prices are so high, and the food is such bad quality/expired that it's unreasonable to make this a regular groceries location. The staff is rude, untrained, and constantly rotating. They try to nickel and dime you on prices. ALWAYS watch the prices as they enter them in. They will most likely enter something in wrong and you'll have to fight for your dollar off. On top of this the store is poorly organized, it takes a while to find things. Finally, small thing- the music is consistently annoying! Hah.Best to cut Gristedes out of your life! Wouldn't recommend a trip to this Gristedes trip to my worst enemy.

This store shouldn't be allowed to stay open. I only go when I really need something, and every time I find expired food. Yesterday, I went to buy a can of tomato sauce and found that they had all expired in 2017, and one expired in 2015. That's 3 YEARS ago!The prices are also extremely high. On an island where many people are on fixed income or have limited mobility, this is an injustice.

Worst grocery store in New York State for the size of it. Sales items are never updated in their system so you WILL pay more, unless you notice and say something to the clueless cashiers who then hold up the line for 10 minutes. Good luck.

I have lived on Roosevelt Island for 36 years (!), through 3 iterations of Gristedes. It would have been a life changer to have had a decent market here all these years, but I, like many islanders, have gotten used to going off island. There is a very decent market (Wholesome Foods) on the island now. But it's not a full service supermarket. There may never be enough of a population here to support a true full serve supermarket, and that's the ultimate problem.

After spending a lot of money in the store I receieved my $5 coupon. They told me I could get anything to use the coupon, so I picked up two ciders. When I got to the register and tried using it, the manager told me then I couldn’t use the coupon on alcohol. When I asked him where does it say that, he said on the coupon. I checked and there was literally nothing that said that. Then he just kept telling me that they always do it like that. Worse place ever. I’m 28 years old and this is the first review that I’ve ever done. I wish I could give this place zero stars.

There's a creepy guy who works here (I couldn't believe he's an actual employee, but he is) who walks around the store with his hand in his pants, scratching himself or something. Basically the last thing you would ever want to see in a grocery store.Do yourself a favor, stop by Whole Foods instead before you get on the tram to Roosevelt Island or just order from Fresh Direct.

A instructive experience in the dysfunction that is Roosevelt Island and the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. In theory the only supermarket on the island, but supermarket is a generous term for the fluorescent lit tomb of neon boxed processed food product and Petri dish of enterovirus that is their prepared foods, all available at exorbitant prices. Even the canned food is expired. Customer service is trash. Despite gentrification being reflected in rising rents, there has been no parallels increased in public services. Most people on the island commute to Costco or grocery stores in the city but the most vulnerable on the island, low income and people with disabilities are often Incarcerated to the island and it’s sad excuse for groceries. Most of RIOC doesn’t live on Roosevelt Island and feels no impetus to provide edible and affordable resources.

Prices are high even by Manhattan standards. Long Island City/Astoria grocers nearby are more reasonable. Also, items frequently ring up for the wrong price. (Not just sale items!)

this is the dirtiest, smelliest and most disgusting grocery store in NYC. Half of the products available are at the expiration date and we had a food poisoning after eating their broiled chicken. Prices are ridiculous, it is actually cheaper to shop at Whole Foods than here.

Super expensive. 5 small items cost me $50. U would think they would have high quality food for the prices they charge, but nope. Moldy bread, old meat and long lines :(

Absurdly overpriced and constantly stocked with products with already-past expiration dates. That's ummm illegal. The meat department is abysmal. Virtually all chicken, fish, beef, pork, all goes bad within a day. Then again, I've heard this is true of all Gristedes outlets, a company run by a felon. That one star I gave this establishment is bogus. The reality is ZERO stars. One caveat, the pharmacy is well run by nice people.

So so selection of fresh stuff. High prices.

The gristedes supermarket chain cares nothing for what sells and supplying more of that. If people buy something out and it's off the shelves for months, that's just too bad. They would never be able to just order more of the same thing. Apparently mr. Catsimatis just sends the same merchandise to every store regardless of what sells and what doesn't. That means some stuff sits there getting dusty and going past its expiration date and other things (of which they could sell much much more) is off the shelves for a ridiculously long amount of time. And forget about requesting something like dairy-free ice cream. You get what you get and too bad if you don't want it.

Worst quality and price every. Same 24 packs poland spring water sells for more than 12 bucks which only sells for 5.99 at whole foods (right across the river). Why then?

Evan Kesten

Has most everything you want in a grocery store. Not quite the level of Whole Foods, but not the same prices either. I just wish they had better quality meat.

Over priced. Somewhat better selection than before. This is it when the are no other options or when I'm too lazy to leave my neighborhood to go food shopping.

Stopped to get some sweets to take home but double checking the expiration dates noticed most were out of date. Pointed this out to the manager on the way out who didn't seem particularly surprised or bothered.
