Whoever answers the phone at this location needs a better way to respond to their customers. Seriously, if you hate your job quit. Not only we have to deal with expired produce but also deal with your nasty attitude.

Terrible grocery store. Most foods are expired, rotten or over priced. Order whole foods delivery or take the tram across to UES to trader Joe's

Think of this as a convenience store. When you run out of milk or bread or ketchup it's okay to go over there and pay their exorbitant prices but even the employees will tell you everything is way too expensive. Last time I was there I paid $74 for three-quarters of a bag of food... No meat or anything expensive just basics. It's cleaner than the former Gristedes but has the same problem of running out of a popular item and not replacing it which is nuts from a retail perspective. If people like a product you should make sure it's in stock!

Super duper expensive Because they are kind of only super store in Roosevelt Island so they extort money by hyping up the price unnecessarily. They do come in boundary of Manhattan and make use of people necessity. All grocery items are minimum $1 extra from other places and maximum I have seen is even $5 on some items. Totally crazy. Its better to order online for Roosevelt Islanders than buy from such extortionate store.

I'm discussed with, the constant price gouging. Almost on a weekly and monthly basis. Forget about all of your reasons for the surge in prices. Your company's attitude is a Don't care, about the community in which it serves. Maybe, understanding the needs of this community should definitely be a concern to a business which can easily be boycotted. A store that doesn't care about its pricing practices is a store that can easily be out of business ! Stop this insane policy ... Of people will still have to buy no matter what the price is of any of the products in food town. Because of need. I don't like patronizing your store anymore !Disgruntled customer!!!

The staff here are so helpful and nice. It has really everything you need to restock and a great variety. If you order more than $75 dollars they will deliver for free on the island. That was so wonderful! I got everything even faster than I expected. I would recommend shopping here. It is clean and well organized and also has prepared food. There is a great deal of variation as well. Definitely a great place for grocery shopping.

A nice, small(ish) grocery store with nearly everything you’ll need for home cooking and a little snack or a picnic lunch.Staff are friendly and helpful and the prices are decent, not exactly cheap but not exorbitantly expensive either. The location is good too, almost smack bang in the middle of Roosevelt Island.

Large grocery store with lot of variety and good prices to help save you money on your grocery bill. Many sales on popular everyday items. Well connected to Queens and Manhattan with a bus stop at door and parking garage onsite. Also has a Deli, Coffee and Sushi bar with eat in or take out available, and a pharmacy. Disabled access too.

I love the staff there are so friendly and helpful the manager Joe is an amazing sociable polite person his staff is very friendly the prices are a little high but with frequent sales and a lot of lower prices on majority of products has made it easier for me to shop on Roosevelt Island instead of having to leave to go into Queens and Shop. I am very pleased with the new store I'm very pleased with the staff and the products available to me I love this store

Clean store & decent prices. You can usually find what you want. There are some stellar cashiers, super friendly, always asking how they can help and how your day is. No matter the time of day. Like 4 or 5 of them who I know I can count on for a pleasant experience, and I look forward to seeing. Recently, I was in a long checkout line, during rush hour. The cashier yelled for her next customer. It took the woman in front of me and myself a moment to figure out who was going where. The cashier screamed again, and I quickly walked to the front. Before I could say sorry she said outloud "it’s like I have to scream at people, no one listens" etc etc. It was completely unnecessary and impossible for me to stress how rude she was. I’ve made sure to let people know to not count on friendly service or to steer clear of this place during rush hour times.

In the past two weeks I bought two pots at this store. First pot was on sale, 6 dollars. The handle fell off after the first time I used it. I was lucky it didn't broke when I was cooking because I could have injured myself or cause a gas leek. I went back and bought another pot, originally 20 dollars I think, but on sale as well, I bought it for 12 dollars. The first time I used it, there was a strong plastic toxic smell coming out of the handle. I then went back to the store tried to return the second pot, they told me they can't do it, which is understandable. But then I asked them to do something about this, maybe stop selling the pots because they could potentially be dangerous, but the manager just told me he will talk to the office, without even looking at me. He was doing something else the entire time, not even facing me. I went to the store looking for an explanation, maybe an apology, but I felt that the manager don't care. The pots are bad, the attitude is worse. For whoever is reading, don't buy cookware there.

They stayed open until 9pm which is great for people who can't get groceries until after work. The prices are very fair and i found all I needed before I left Roosevelt .the sales associate( a young african american girl ) helped me find my items and the cashier was also very pleasant and polite . I don't remember her name but she also was a young African american girl. She signed me up for a rewards card so that I could save money. I will be returning

Rude classest cashier. The cashier noticed I was using EBT and rudely announced "that won't pay for everything you need to have money too"... Like idk how this works?!?! It is never OK to shame someone for using EBT. Food is a human right.

This is one of the worst stores. Most of the employees are on slow slow motion, non responsive and just it seems that they don’t care what is happening in the store. Would ask for manager, but it seems that you don’t know who is worse. Store is under stocked, horrible quality, many expired products, produce department is a joke, no variety at all, but they are more expensive than any store around. I went there few times because they also have a lottery station, unfortunately even at the empty counter you have to wait between 10 and 30 min before someone serves you and even for that you have to keep asking if you could be helped. Now I just go over the bridge to supermarket which is way cheaper, really stocked and you get help. Also, this store should shut down their olive and food bar.....it is disgusting!

This place is clean and follows social distancing when waiting in line to pay. They also have reminders to keep wearing masks and keep distance.Staff are kind and helpful. The shelf was out of eggs that I want and when I asked if they have still more, the staff went inside and got me a dozen of it.

Prices are on the high side. Not the friendliest cashier, one cashier swiped her convenience card because i didn't have one yet, just now i explained that i had filled out the form and hadn't returned it yet. This cashier just ignored me. No consistency in helping out the customer. Just made up my mind to ignore this store much as possible. Costco here i come.

I was shopping yesterday for some drinks and food. When I was ready to check out, two of the open cashiers refuse to serve me. The first cashier, who is an old white lady, said she has customers, but there were no one in front or behind me. I went to the second cashier and she asked me to go to the first one, but obviously the first cashier again refuse to serve me. I was at a point wanted to just leave without buying anything but the second cashier finally check me out with a bad attitude, including not giving me the discount that is listed on the pricetag. In my opinion, this is an obvious racial profiling. I have had the same treatment before but I didn't complain. But this time it is just too much. I went home and called the store manager. The night shift supervisor told me he would take care of the issue but didn't even ask for the specific cashiers that had treated me unfairly not did he ask for my name. I highly doubted he has done anything to handle this complain. Honestly I would not go back to this store agay as they obviously do not want to serve Asian people.

Im not sure if I'm just unlucky, but the poultry at Foodtown goes bad very quickly, sometimes before even being unpackaged and never lasts longer than one night in the fridge.Packaged meats bought from other chains don't have this problem - even from other foodtowns

The store conditions have been improved, but some cashiers are lazy and rude, definitely not happy with their job, even have an attitude towards the customers. You have to wait to be called, which is no problem, but the problem is they are chatting with others, and the customer needs to wait because of that. To Management, train, or hire good employees, don't let lazy and rude cashiers bring your business down.Don't know who Chris Johnson is. I am not the first customer but will be much happier knowing I would be the last customer with an unpleasant experience as the date of 6/25/2020. Not sure what are "nonessential items" you mean in the essential business and how many people will only shop for "nonessential items" on their trip. Your logic and words are not good excuses. Feel free to stay at home, stop spreading, stop targeting on my review. If you have a pleasant experience, great, but please respect other customers' reviews.

Fresh produce, a good selection of Asian food items as well. This place also offers limited freshly baked items. Good range of fruits and vegetables available. You can even get duck eggs here.

Extremely overpriced and terrible quality products. They are selling B-stock and faulty products for 3x original price. As a result you always get faulty items like leaking milk or rotting food.I have gone back to return things with the receipt the day of and the management lady made a huge deal about it as if I was trying to swindle them... when she is obviously trying to SCAM you. Very unpleasant.I literally go out of my way to avoid this place at all costs.Photo below is one of many times I have been screwed over.

It's not Gristiedes! Well stocked store. Good (higher now) prices and weekly deals. Produce section still leaves something to be desired. One can actually shop here now. Finally!

A vast improvement over the one it replaced, and the Island's only supermarket. Opened just as pandemic started. We're very grateful.Update 6/22: It's pretty much stayed that way

Gristedes made the best decision on using the Foodtown name to bring a better selection of foods to Roosevelt Island. The store has a more updated look and they also have Sunny Sushi which make the best food items helping us all stay healthier.
