My wife and I stayed here several yrs ago for a weekend. I was going to do some fishing and she was happy to sit by the pool. This place could be spectacular with the location on the river. The meal we had was disappointing. But the biggest problem was the terrible mold smell in the room. It was unbearable. I would never stay at this place again even for free. It's a shame. This place could be a gold mine.Rooms: This was the worst part.Food & drinks: Just average.

Went in for dinner with my girlfriend.Food was nothing short of amazing. The chef has to have move for his craft for what he is making. It comes through with his or her cooking. Absolutely amazing.Servers know all about the menu and how the food is prepared. Etc.Great service ! Great food! Can’t beat it.Plus a lot of “high end “meat and poultry dishes the are affordable!!!

My dad "found" Hungry Trout abt 20y ago when he took my older boys fishing. We had stayed there many times. Now we're back! The property is so pretty and peaceful! The restaurants are delicious and so convenient to be on the property. Can't wait to go back!Rooms: Rooms are clean and cozy. Would like a little bigger fridge😊Nearby activities: Wilmington is a great place for me to run, bike, hike and of course ski. The town of Lake Placid & the North Pole are nearby as is the drive up Memorial Hwy to top of Whiteface. Whiteface is my favorite place to ski. Placid is my favorite place to walk, swim, kayak, run, eat, etc!!Food & drinks: I haven't been to the Hungry Trout in a few years but it was delicious. We enjoy eating at the HT Pub (previously MacDougalls). The other night we had such a yummy dinner there.

My sister and I were on a vacation in the Adirondack region and met Kasey, the Hungry Trout bartender/server at another restaurant in Plattsburgh, New York. I asked her what she did and she told me and my sister about the Hungry Trout Restaurant in Wilmington,NY. Kasey talked so highly about the place she worked and the amazing new owners and she really loved it there. So we decided to go see her when they opened on Friday night .When we arrived we went to the Tavern/Pub which is located downstairs of the restaurant. It was kinda hard to find the door for the lower area, weWitnesses Kasey running outside the doors to wrangle the patrons into the correct location. This happened 3X while we were there. She is an absolute joy and a great conversationalist, has great knowledge of the food and beverages served at the restaurants. The pub food that we selected was absolutely delicious. I give Hu get Trout 5 stars and if I could give Kasey a 10 STAR rating I would. She is the reason I went there and I will be sure to return when we come back to the area.

The room is nothing special, very average. The service is great, the lady in the office is incredibly sweet. The location is amazing. Right next to the river, 5 minutes to Whiteface mountain, 5 minutes to Santa's village, 10 minutes to Lake Placid. The restaurant is really good, a little pricey but good. All around great experience. ❤️Rooms: Average rooms, slightly out of date tvs but why come up here to watch TV?Nearby activities: Skiing, Santa's village, lake place has a lot to offer, hiking.Walkability: There's nothing to walk to from here. Might even be unsafe to try.Food & drinks: There's a vending machine. Expensive restaurant out front. Pub is opening in January.

I was pretty disappointed with the dinner my girlfriend and I had here on our vacation. The location came highly recommended by a friend of the family, and we made reservations sightseeing-unseen.When we arrived the wait staff were cleaning trays of cups in lobby, and we were ushered to the “best seats in the house” - which apparently was a section of the restaurant which was completely empty with the exception of our table. This meant the service was a challenge as our waitress had to go out of her way to check in us.When asked about the menu to waitress had no insights to offer on the menu outside of the words written in the menu description. I ordered a trout dish which was soggy and lacking much flavor. My girlfriend ordered the duck which was dry and clearly overcooked. The meal was about 200 dollars and we left feeling like the 80 dollar meal we had at another restaurant in Lake Placid was a much better meal with better service and a better view.

Had dinner for our two year anniversary on Sept 15th. 9/10 recommended! The campfire trout just a little too salty for my tasting but great for others who love salt!Makayla was our waitress and she was amazing! Views are beautiful and the duck was amazing!

I had high expectations for this place for a three-day vacation, but the room was so filthy that I checked out after the first night. I started sneezing from the moment I stepped in the room, initially I thought it was allergies, but then I realized it was from dust emanating from the old carpet and furniture in the room. Everything I touched in the room was sticky-filthy and so dusty that you could see the dust particles flying in every direction. I barely made it through the night from sneezing and blowing my nose constantly, not something you want to do in the Adirondacks! Their refund policy is such that you get 0% refund once you check in, however, I talked to the manager and he agreed to refund me one of the two remaining nights. It was just a really bad overall experience. I recommend you avoid this place because it is nothing like on the pictures. A tiny refrigerator, a few chairs, and a table in the room, the bathrooms are made from plastic and the place is run-down pretty bad from inside out. The location is nice though, right next to plume falls. The fishing is great, but the rooms are way below what you would expect to pay $160 per night. There are less expensive and nicer places in Upper Jay or Lake Placid.

We’ve stayed at the resort a good handful of times. Rooms have been renovated to a certain degree. Bathrooms in rooms we have stayed in seen to have been somewhat updated. We do agree that the carpets definitely need to be addressed. We stayed this past weekend. Rooms we clean and up to par. We ate at the restaurant upstairs Saturday night. Service was ok, beef stroganoff was horrible as it looked and tasted like it had ground hamburger in it, “Caesar Salad” tasted like it had Italian dressing, not a traditional Caesar Salad. My wife’s trout meal was the greasiest piece of fish she has ever had. Server never refilled her water all night. We were very disappointed with our dining experience. We’ll probably just have pub food next tine for the price.

A nice place to stay. Comfortable, close to Lake Placid. At the base of Whiteface. Nice guests until some rude people from Quebec started insisting on doing cannonballs soaking everyone. Even when asked nicely to please mind their splashes... Twice. They told me I was near a pool, I should expect to get wet. And they continued doing as they pleased. But... The hotel can't be blamed for jerk french Canadians.Food & drinks: The Hungry Trout Restaurant is delicious!! But I've never in my life paid even as close to high a price... Even in some highly rated restaurants in NYC, Maui, Honolulu, or Boston. Well over $400 for a party of 5 with an 11 year old!!

The HTR Website pictures don't do it justice. It's not just about fishing there, but with a Bait Shop and rental equipment on site, you easily can indulge . LolOur room and the Resort grounds were very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the views spectacular, the multiple nature trails you can walk to were amazing, the restaurant was first class, it was close to everything on our checklist and finally, the price was fair and reasonable.Would definitely recommend,Looking forward to returning.Thank you Hungry Trout for an awesome stay.

The staff at the restaurant upstairs was incredibly accommodating to our big group with a same day reservation. The food was the best we’d had all weekend and desperately needed after a weekend of pub food. The outside is beautifully decorated too and made for a memorable birthday dinner. Thank you!

Affordable resort with scenic views. Superbly affordable in low season! Rooms are decent although show traces of ageing. Clean where it matters. The restaurant has excellent views, friendly staff and the food is decent. A little pricey for what you get.

My family and I just spent our Yuletide weekend at the Hungry Trout. Our stay was quite pleasant. Decent room, great views, nice people but what made our stay the most pleasant of all was the executive chef at the restaurant. We have dietary restrictions for most of our family and although it started out uneasy, Chef Brad quickly came to the rescue and made things so much better. After learning about our sons severe allergies he came out to our table for each meal to talk with us about our wants and needs. Chef Brad went above and beyond and we couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative. Thank you, Chef Brad and the rest of the staff at The Hungry Trout Resort! We will see you again:)

Scenic location with a good sized room. The carpet exudes a musty smell and the washroom is a bit rundown, with a clogged tub. Not the cleanest facility but the views are spectacular and there is a restaurant on site, with good food and friendly service. Coffee maker and fridges in the room are good amenities. The building can definitely use a renovation to bring it up to par with other establishments.

It was good. Not wow. There was dust under the mini fridge that had been there a while. Windows need to be opened and vacuumed clean. Just a few minor details to really brighten it up.OAN the location was great for us. Gigantic babbling brook/ river. Spacious parking. Quiet. Big window view. * no microwave in the room. Everyone was respectful and friendly

One mistake after another when booking our room, so we didn't even end up staying there. Some of my family did, and the room was not good, beds were weirdly tilted, issues with the tvs, wallpaper peeling away from the wall.

I stayed there in the beginning of February, just after the new owner took over.I was there for a weekend in early February to ski at Whiteface which is only about a quarter mile away. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a snow storm going on so it was quite cold but the room was warm. The staff is friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant are excellent. I ate at the restaurant both nights I was there and thought the food was delicious. The duck wings as an appetizer and the smoked trout were delicious.I had the Guide Platter entree both nights and it was fantastic. I usually ski at Killington but will go back to Whiteface just to stay at the Hungry Trout again.I highly recommend it.Don
