Me and a friend left Cape Vincent and went to White face mountain for the day. We found this awesome little motel, bar/restaurant to stay for the night. Hungry Trout. . The Owner was a really nice guy. Told us he lived in Manhattan. The rooms are great and cozy. And with a great viewWe had the best Duck wonton and poutine ever here. The whole experience was beyond what we expected, also pet friendly. The food was amazing. We'll be back when the weather is warmer. 5+ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Super friendly staff and great service. Food was delicious. We got there around 4:15 with a party of 8. They got the tables setup outside for us and said the kitchen is not opened till 5. We had no problems with that. Placed our drink order first and our food order when the waitress came back with our drinks. By 5:10 the appetizers were out. The view and the sound of the water was so peaceful. It was the perfect lunch spot.

We had a great meal at R.F McDougalls Pub. We are staying at The Hungry Trout and were in the mood for some appetizers and drinks. They let us know up front that the kitchen was busy and it might take longer, but we didn’t feel as though we waited that long. We got quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, poutine, and the pepperoni pizza. Everything was reasonable priced and good. I would recommend this pub for anyone who is in town and in the mood for some drinks and bar food.

We arrived around 6:30 on in a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised we were seated immediately.Overall the service was really friendly. No issues there!The food was pretty good. I had a brisket sandwich, which was super delicious and tender. Husband had calamari and lobster bisque. He thought it was just ok. They have a decent kids menu that is pretty large portions.Overall good experience.

A++ scenery. We sat outside since it was a clear, beautiful night and mountains and river behind the restaurant just provided a perfect setting for a meal in the Adirondacks. We ordered the pretzel to start because who can pass up a soft pretzel. Fresh, soft and it hit the spot. Ordered a burger for dinner, nothing special but still tasty. 5/5 for the view, 4/5 for the food. My husband thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was.

We had passed by this place on many occasions but will not make that mistake again. We sat on the patio which (after the annoying barking dog left) was a beautiful setting overlooking the river and Whiteface Mt!! The food was delicious and the service just what I expect. I had the lobster roll and some peanut butter pie for dessert - great choice if I do say so myself!

I really hate to leave this review… but I have to. Since this restaurant/resort changed owners, service has gone way down hill. We are locals and the last six times we had ordered food to go, the person that answers the phone says she will take our name and number and “they” will call you back when “they” are ready to take our order. They have only called back one time and that was 30 minutes later just to take the order! I understand being busy! I understand staffing issues! I get it. But WHY? Either say you are not taking orders or take the order and give us a time when it will be ready! Simple. Don’t take a message and never call back. Remember, we locals are here year round. We patronize the local businesses even during the off-season. Like I said, I hate to leave this review, but something needs to change here. By the way, the food here is very good. The wait staff (in person dining) is very good. I hope that management/ownership reads this review and makes some changes. Until then, we are no longer going to even attempt take out and are not going to bother with in-house dining. Sorry.

I never usually write reviews but this place deserves it! Worked up an appetite after hiking the Flume and was thrilled to learn that they’ll allow dogs on the patio. To my delight right after we were seated the lovely waitress brought our dog a bowl of cold water which he desperately needed. She even then proceeded to offer him a treat! I had the smoked trout roll which were recommended to us and my boyfriend had the chicken quesadilla, both were delicious and just the perfect amount of food that were needed. Will definitely be back whenever we’re in the area to enjoy the food and view, though I think our pup enjoyed it the most feeling like a celebrity getting every ounce of attention from the waitstaff!

New ownerships as of Feb. 2022. All new staff except two wait staff. The Google version of their menu has not caught up to their actual menu yet so be careful and look at their menu on their website.Menu selection was a bit light on offering and we all felt the menu was not easy to read. The fonts and colors were unusual and hard on the eyes. Also, some of the items were pricey.Stating all above, our first reaction gave us doubt that we will be back. Now the positive.Glad we stayed. Our waiter was wonderful and the food was very good. We all had the Steak Frites which was delicious. Perfectly cooked and VERY flavorful.They should bring back the Fish Tocos and Tenderloin Tips.

The hostess was friendly and welcoming. The waitress was also nice for the brief time we saw her. They told us about how the had some kind of bus from 6-8 in the upstairs restaurant so they had a limited menu. Okay, cool , no problem. The issue is that it took about 30 minutes to get our check and then another 20 for them to realize that we were ready for them to take the check. It got to the point where we put the exact amount for dinner and some cash on the table for the tip so that we could just leave.The staff should not be running back and forth and working in both restaurants at the same time. They should have a set of staff for one and another set of staff for the other. If the owner already does then I’m confused, because after we got our food we didn’t hear or see from our waitress for the rest of our time there.

Food was average, service was poor. Not worth the cost. Outdoor seating was very nice with a great view. 2 burgers cooked wrong, fries were not good (half were battered, half not, all under cooked), tartar sauce for fish dinners was just mayo. Soda tasted poor. No drink refills during dinner. Find better options.

This little pub is downstairs in the Hungry Trout Restaurant, they even have outdoor seating if you want that million dollar view without paying the upscale prices upstairs. We had wings and a caesar salad. Great place to kick back with some live music. They also had corn hole there with a little terrace overlooking the Ausable River.We also love sitting at the bar when Catherine is bartending. She is the best!

Great patio, delicious food! Maybe the most friendly accommodating service I've ever received anywhere. We showed up near closing a couple times now with a bigger group, called ahead once after a long day of hiking and they even kept the kitchen open for us, and then went well out of their way to make sure we were taken very good care of and not feeling rushed.

Arrived on a Thursday night after a day of snowboarding at Whiteface. Sat at the bar with my brother and received great service from a very friendly bar tender. The wings were nice and crispy and arrived very quickly. We stayed for a couple hours, had some good local beers, and chatted with the bar tender. Would highly recommend for some good pub food and a friendly atmosphere.

I absolutely love these waterfalls! It's a great and peaceful place to just sit on a rock and listen to the water or read a book. There are a few cliffs on this River that you can actually jump off of, just because the water is deep enough.

A warm and friendly atmosphere which is a mix of bar and restaurant. A number of large TVs scattered about the place along with a fireplace. Excellent hamburger and trout salad and a good selection of beer. Service was excellent. Moderately priced as two meals, two appetizers, a dessert and a few beers came to about $110.

Delicious food, friendly staff. In summer, the view off the patio is amazing. Imagine having a delicious dinner eating along side the flumes of a brook, overlooking Whiteface Mountain with the sun shining down. Great cellar level indoor pub.

My reservations were for the adjacent sister restaurant, but we were hungry and the pub kitchen was already open. I found the atmosphere to be more casual but still quite nice. The staff offered great customer service. They even cancelled the other reservation for us after we discovered that most menu items from the sister restaurant were also available here. We ordered from both menus and had zero regrets. The food here from the burgers to the salads, to the stuffed pork chops and desserts are all simply perfect. Highly recommended.
