If you're interested in quality coffee made with real care, this is the spot.While the default roast I got leaned to the light roast side, it wasn't extreme. Frankly I'm not really on board with the present day enthusiasts' extreme light roasts, but while it was close to the borderline for me (of acidity, less body, that comes with lighter roasts), it was still a great cup.Pleasant staff too. Overall, glad I pulled off I-90 to visit.

Character coffee is a little gem! I walked in right when it was opening and the barista greeted us with a smile and “what can I get for you?!”. She was so sweet and kind to everyone in there. Not to mention the drink I had (cappuccino) was delicious! The plants, honeycomb tiles, and beautiful decor is peaceful and makes you stop, look, and take it all in. Highly recommend, especially if you wanna start your day off with a smile ☺️🤗☕️

Coffee with the most CharacterThis is the best coffee shop I have ever found in New York (and actually anywhere else). You will not find another shop that cares this much about the coffee craft within a 100 mile radius (at least). The most aptly named shop - it is full of great coffee and great character. Some of my highlights:*Attention to quality of the craft is immeasurable here. The fantastic barista, John and owner, Katie were at the bar, testing and creating flavors and combinations. You can really tell they have a passion for innovating in the coffee community - you can really taste it too!* The creativity is unmatched and inspiring. As mentioned above, the staff here make house-made syrup from scratch, and they have flavors NO other coffee shop offers (Pistachio syrup c'mon). They also experiment with multiple beans/roasts and methods of brewing, they are extremely knowledgeable about the craft*The genuine character the staff offers. I walked in this shop for a quick stop and ended up spending most of my Sunday here. John, Katie and the crew were so engaging and offered such interesting coffee talk. They were extremely friendly and kind - they truly gave the 'coffee shop culture' you only see in TV shows.You will never step into a coffee shop that has quite the character this one does, and even as I write this, I have the urge to return. You go for coffee and leave with an experience . I 100% recommend this for anyone stopping in the area.

It took me a minute to find this place, but the decor is amazing in this place.. love all the greenery. The maple latte was absolutely freaking delicious. They also have an assortment of very interesting flavors like honey lavender, and honey cinnamon.. 🤤🤤🤤 definitely will be back.

10/10 Had a delightful experience for my 1st visit. Came for the Honey Lavender Latte but they were out, so I enjoyed a new flavor they were testing- 'Rosé'. Beautifully crafted and the owner/coffee crafter (Christi/Katy/Cati??) was a great conversationalist. The smells coming from Soul One 12 next door only added to the experience ❤

This is an amazing local coffee spot. They really know their coffee! Place is beautiful in the midst of a revitalizing downtown Utica. Selection is superb. It's always changing depending on where their latest order was sourced from. The mocha latte I had was so tasty.

Randomly ended up in Utica, randomly ended up at this coffee shop. The blueberry latte was AMAZING and the staff was so friendly. If you also randomly end up in Utica (or not so randomly) you should definitely make this place a stop on your itinerary.

I’m writing this maybe 45 seconds after leaving the establishment. Immediately, I was met with a smile from the barista. The shop didn’t feel “recently opened” even though it’s still the first hour of the day. The barista was well-spoken, friendly, and really the definition of proper customer service. She spoke enough to engage with me yet still not too much to bother. The coffee was really quite delicious. Their Advent Calendar specials for the holidays are phenomenal! Knowing that the syrups are made in house justified price. Espresso is great quality. Not stellar but it’s hard to get stellar beans without being a roaster too. Overall, 9/10. 4/5 stars ONLY because there was a miscommunication with the menu pricing. absolutely delicious.

This was the 5th stop on our Northeast Coast Coffee Tour. It held the #1 spot for a short time. We don’t eat sugar, but apparently they make all their own syrups from scratch which is awesome! The barista was kind and didn’t scoff when I mentioned we were from Texas (which came up in casual conversation - I didn’t just throw it out there 😂). Anyway, I enjoyed it enough to buy a sticker to display proudly somewhere. 😁

I'm not a huge coffee person but like a nice place to hangout and feel welcomed. Character Coffee is by far the best place to do that in Utica! If you feel like being social, you can sit at the counter and talk to a bunch of interesting patrons and friendly baristas. I especially like it because an iced latte and conversation is much cheaper than therapy lol! If you feel like being lame, you can sit at one of the cozy little nooks or on the comfy couch too I guess. And they are dog friendly, so you can bring in your canine friend to try to help you pick up one of the countless beautiful women if your own personal charm is lacking.

This is not the closest cafe to me by any means, but I make it a point to swing by when I can to support this excellent local business.Everything is on point when it comes to the offerings, the atmosphere, the cleanliness, etc. But what makes this place really stand out is Kate, the owner (and now city councilwoman!).She will learn your name. She will ask what your plans this weekend are. She will get to know you and try to make a human connection in such a lovely, rare way. It really makes you feel welcome and it really makes you feel like community is being built.

Coffee: A+Atmosphere: A+Owner: A+Baristas: A+You will not find a better coffee shop in downtown Utica. While I happen frequent this establishment, I see a lot of newcomers who seem a bit timid at first but always leave with smiles on their faces. It never feels like I am having polite small-talk with the baristas or other customers- it is always a genuine conversation.Everyone is truly welcome here.

My sister and I visited this shop for the first time today. I absolutely love the interior design. The menu is clear and uncomplicated. I decided to try the pistachio caramel iced latte and it did not disappoint. I could taste the flavor without it over powering the coffee. I would highly recommend checking it out.

My first visit left something to be desired, but mainly because I don't normally order much more than a black coffee. Next time I'll be ready with what I'm ordering.This is a beautiful little coffee shop centrally located in the Genesee st business area. Easily accessible, they provide a wide variety of drink options in a friendly atmosphere. Very clean, very organized, I suggest checking it out!

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll never get a Dunkin Coffee ever again!!! I'm just upset that I'm just now finding out about this location!!!! It's super cute inside. I wish I had the time to sit and enjoy it before work but I'm always last minute. But when I say the customer service is top tier!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honey it is A1...Like my heart gets warmer when I walk in and get spoken to so politely. And even for the few minutes I am in there I swear I don't even feel like I'm in Utica anymore. I hate that I don't know the young lady's name that serves me but at this rate I'm sure we will get to know each other. She is the absolute sweetest. You guys have to have their coffee. It's so rich and tasty!!!!!!! They make Dunkin and Starbucks look terrible. I honestly can go on and on about this shop here....and I've only had their coffee 3 times!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's to another 3 million more lol I pray you guys expand so that everyone can have this same experience I have.

Went here with my partner and the barista was extremely polite, friendly, and made us awesome drinks. Inside is very clean and beautiful, and the couch by the door was super comfy. Glad we made the drive to go to thus coffee shop!
