I’ve been going here for years and think it’s like none other. Family owned and operated, lumber is exceptional and largely stored in a wood barn out back. Not low grade lumber like at the big chain stores. This is quality wood, mostly pine, in all grades and widths. I’ve ordered metal roofing here too in exact lengths. Inside is a hardware store with items in most categories. You won’t find every PEX or electrical fixture for a huge job, but they have many parts that have saved us many times.This is and old school hardware and lumber store in every way and it’s a real gem.

Berated and then stalked by the owner yesterday for finding straight 2x4s and placing the bowed/crowned inventory on the top back of the stack. A pretty bizarre experience that left me in disbelief. I’ve been coming here fairly regularly for 6 years and have always been polite and pleasant despite receiving a cold reception every time. I’ll continue to go when in a pinch since it saves me a trip into Ithaca when I’m working in T-Burg, but I’ll tell you what— it’s a pretty strange atmosphere at Stovers.

I came here to buy some framing lumber for a local project. All 2x4 material that is stacked in piles outside. My framing has to be nice and straight for the walls I am building so I had to pick through the pile to find some nice straight stock.The woman who works there came out and started yelling at me to not mess up the pile ( I was neatly stacking the warped lumber on top of the rear end of the pile).I told her I could re stack it for her if that was an issue, I was very polite about it all. She continued to follow me around and glare at me, refusing to talk to me while I collected the rest of the lumber I needed.I love to support local business, but if this is the attitude customers get when purchasing from them, I would highly recccomend against going here.This was unacceptable behavior and I hope nobody else has to go through this. It is quite unfortunate to have to write this because I had a few local projects I would have sourced materials from them for. But I don't think I will ever go back here or recccomend them to anyone.Cheers everyone.

Excellent service and 100% acceptance of lumber pieces in $3000 order. You can save 15% at the big box stores , then throw 1/3 of it away. Stovers loaded my lumber in a pallet and loaded onto my truck in 3 minutes.

I tried making the same order four times, was told each time that they would sort through and call me back which they never did. One of those times they did have what I needed on hand, but rather than deliver it to me they sold it to someone else after I confirmed it was what I needed.Besides being far more expensive than most lumberyards, their customer service is non-existent.The one star belongs to Spike, their employee of the month who is a good dog.

Stover’s is packed full with just about anything you would need for project around the house.They are friendly and very helpful.I’d much rather give my business to a local family owned business then to the big box stores.
