Tivoli General is an absolute local gem. Serving up fresh flavors, focaccia that's top notch and coffee that's on point. The breakfast sandwich is a real treat and lunch isn't to be missed. The produce section is stacked with well curated delicacies with influences from all over the world. To top it all off the owners are super welcoming and engaging .. don't miss this spot when you're in Tivoli.

For a while, I came in regularly because they had at least one vegan sandwich and a rather good vegan cookie. Lately, they’ve had neither; pity.Grocery-wise, I feel like the selection is different every time I come in. At some point the items started skewing towards speciality Asian foods, which is neat and different but not particularly useful to me day-to-day.Coffee is hit or miss, and available only in petite sizes (unless you beg). They’re trying to do coffee well, but the staff seems unevenly trained on their espresso machine.Basically, I wish this place was more like Village Grocery in Kingston. It is not, however, so I pretty much forget about it, even though it’s way closer to home for me.

As a sandwich lover, I can say with confidence that the sandwiches here are absolutely first rate. The fantastic homemade focaccia has an unusual crisp crust that holds it all together but cracks perfectly as you bite in. Ingredients and ratios are also great. Coffee was really solid too. Paired with the warm and friendly proprietors, a great experience!

I eat a Bacon, Egg and Cheese probably once a week and this was hands down the best BEC that I've ever eaten.Great vibes and selection plus a kind, caring staff. This place is a destination.

These people make their guests drink bathroom water. After spending $30 on breakfast sandwiches and coffee for two, I asked where I could fill up my water bottle and was told I was "welcome to use the bathroom sink."Yeah cause I really want to wait in the bathroom line so I can wrestle my water bottle into your toilet sink and fill it with lukewarm water while smelling other people's hangover poos. It's not like it's hard to fill up a dispenser with ice water! The sandwiches were great, actually.

So lucky to have a little general store serving the community needs in town and bringing passersby to the village. Excellent food, excellent service, and everything you could ask for and expect from a sweet little shop in a teeny town! A must-stop for day trippers exploring the Tivoli Bays and the rest of the businesses, too!

When I'm in town, I pop into the Tivoli General, usually a few times a day. It's a perfectly-curated shop with amazing food sourced from local farms and the best chicken salad I've ever had. I always find something delicious in there or get turned on to some fantastic new food item to take home. Try the miso cookies and the hot chocolate and you will want to do cartwheels. We love this shop.

Friendly neighborhood cafe, very high quality, local food sourced from farms nearby. Hands down the best coffee this side of the river (Australians know Coffee). Am I biased because I come everyday? You be the judge.

The new owners of the Tivoli General have transformed a small grocery into a community hub in a matter of months, though not without inspired effort: they gave up valuable retail space to create indoor seating, dedicated their mornings to open early for coffee and breakfast 6 days a week. They sought out local bakers to provide fresh bread and pastries consistently. They created a small menu of incredible sandwiches, salads and soups made from local farm goods rather than mass produced stuff. It is disheartening to see the comments implying that the owners are not for the people; what they have built is made entirely from the artistry and effort of local artisans, whom they pay ethically for their craft and service. It's not a 7-11, and we are so grateful for that.I understand the shock of feeling the true cost of goods and services, but I ask those frustrated by the price point to consider the greater social impact of demanding the prices that come from factory farms and poverty wage labor before accusing these business owners of any lack of character. I know few other shops run with such integrity, skillfulness, and heart.

Tivoli General is the most amazing community coffee shop. The owners...and chef....are always friendly, which always makes me feel good. I'm a regular so it's nice to be recognized and acknowledged! The food is delicious and well priced. The best best grilled cheese, tuna salad wonderful and the avacado toast has alot of competition these days, but still better than any I have tasted, which is alot. Generous portion, great bread and always a nice presentation! I appreciate a coffee shop with chai tea that is without sugar and not made from a mix, hard to find! Matcha as well. The groceries are interesting and the produce is fresh and local. I hate Tuesdays when they are closed, but I know they need a rest and that's selfish of me.....

This place is soooo obnoxious! How are you gonna charge 16 bucks for a chicken salad sandwich that’s mediocre at best. Coffee is trash, egg and cheese bland and overpriced, and the grocery selection is an odd limited variety of pretentious 14 dollar tinned fish, and overdone momofuku rich gentrifier-core, brooklynite bull. I hate myself whenever I come in here, but alas, they are the only “grocery” store in town. They have a monopoly and they know it. Also-change ur name, there’s nothing “general” about this place… such a rancid vibe 0/10😘😘

Stumptown coffee, canned octopus and tiger balm all in one place? We like it. Also we had the avocado toast with onion jelly and ham. It was great.UPDATE: It's Oct 2022 and Tiv Gen is under new management and has only gotten better! Breakfast sammies and espresso drinks are coming at you in glorious fashion. The grocery selection has pared down quite a bit but it's for the best.

Cute little grocery/ cafe in a cute little town. Brooklynites will be right at home hereThey have all the espresso drinks and lots ofNice things in the coolers, local baked goods, I think some sandwiches, although they were closing and didn’t have much left when we were there. I think we shared a bagel & cream cheese.

Lovely little "fancy bodega" in the Hudson Valley. Usually see Bard students hanging out and/or working here. We mostly come for the sandwiches, which are excellent, not only because the quality of the cheeses and meats is so high, but because the bread is absolutely perfect. Sometimes they have croissants and other pastries as well as bialys on the weekends, and that's a true treat. They also carry a fun selection of local and imported beers, from Suarez to Rothaus.

Charles says it all; horrific prices, barely stock the bare necessities. No cash under a $5 dollar purchase is a real racket for a place that primarily moves $2 cups of adequate coffee. Real petit-bourgeois vibe with the $15 dollar salami. I hate myself every time I go in, which is far too often, given that they’re the only (pseudo) grocery shop in town. Owners are miserable folks, adept at capturing the gentrifier energy the weekending brooklynites love so much. And for goddess’ sake there are enough potential employees for the place to be open 7 days a week; 5-6 day a week schedule is the most damning clue that this operation is a vanity project run by entitled millennials.

everything about this place is pretty good, except for the fact that the prices are soo inflated. im still reeling over the fact that eggs are over $7 for a dozen and the hand soap is like $12. also genuinely confused why a general store is closed on tuesdays, a pretty essential week day for students, employees and commuters. in general, it just feels as though this store was designed for weekenders and not for those that rely on their products for daily life

New owners and the most amazing flat white I’ve ever had! They are really committed to doing coffee right, best in the area by far.
