My husband and I went here for a date night. We had a good time, but upon walking in it smelled like wet dog. Might have been the clam being sold that night, or maybe it’s just the smell of the entry way? Not sure. But once we got to our seats it was fine. The food is good, but nothing crazy. I had their steak, and my husband had the lamb sandwich. The steak definitely stood out. The chimmichurri sauce on top was excellent. The lamb sandwich was just nothing super special. My husband ended up wishing he got the steak as well. The atmosphere is charming, with a home-like feel. There was a bridal shower going on in the upper room in the restaurant but didn’t bother us at all. We could hear each other fine and had a lovely evening.I will say, I got a cocktail off their specials menu and was blown away. It was a peach mixed drink and I highly recommend. The service was also incredible. Waitress was very attentive and did a great job checking on us.All in all, not a waste and still a nice evening but not a place that we will likely return to any time soon.

Phoebe’s hosts Katherine and Emily were BEYOND helpful in assisting with my best friend’s bridal shower. I have been to a lot of showers and there has never been that level of help, expertise and grace that they showed us. Lot of moving pieces and they were the answer to the puzzle. Ladies, don’t look any further for choosing your baby or bridal shower location, this is IT.

A friend and I recently had dinner at Phoebe’s upon her suggestion. I have visited the establishment before but it had been many years ago. It’s a quaint restaurant near SU and Syracuse stage. She was already seated at the bar when I arrived, we both enjoyed a Prosecco. We had reservations in the Atrium room but decided to eat at the bar. She ordered a salad and I escargot. They were promptly delivered and we ordered entrees Atlantic Salmon for her and Skirted Steak for myself. Both were good I felt like the salmon could have some type of flavoring to bring the dish altogether. The skirted steak was a pleasant meal as well, I enjoyed the garlic sauce that was unique. It didn’t have quite the flair that some of the newer downtown restaurants but is a solid oldie but goodie! Also more reasonably priced than some newer competitors.

We had our company Holiday party at Phoebe’s last night and it was wonderful. The venue was beautiful and perfectly decorated for the Holidays. The wait staff were so friendly and accommodating, we never lacked for anything. The food was delicious and we were able to custom make a menus for our group very easily that accommodated our vegetarian and vegan staff too. Highly recommend Phoebes for your group outings! Thank you!

I went here for coffee and stayed for the food. To my surprise l, Alice knew how to make the elusive Cortado and it was excellent. Ciarra also provided excellent service. The special of Chicken/Broccoli Alfredo was a great choice. The size was a little small even for lunch, but had perfectly al dente and colorful broccoli, pasta was cooked nicely too. Not overly salted with a smooth and creamy sauce. I came back a month later and got the lunch burger. 8oz seemed small but it was very filling. I wasn’t sure about marscapone cheese so changed it out. Loved the flaky salt on the fries too. Looking forward to being in town again to try even more menu items.Note to self when I read this next visit and get 4 espresso shots and steamed 1/2 & 1/2: get the small cup

I came in for coffee, since they bill themselves as a coffee lounge. Was told their espresso machine is broken. These things happen but was super disappointing.Nobody up front to greet and seat me or another couple ahead of me. I only came in for coffee and light fare, so sat at the bar. Several bar spots were sitting with dirty dishware and no evidence of the former occupants, so it had been a while. This was after dinner rush at about 7:15. Neither of the two bartenders welcomed me in or even looked my way.I ordered French onion soup. Every bistro should be able to nail this simple staple. It was flat, lacked complexity, and the cheese seemed old and flavorless. No stretch and no rich cheese flavor, it was like plastic. It was blackened on top instead of crisped brown. The soup itself was passable, and the croutons had a little crunch. The soup was maybe 3.5 out of 5, nowhere near what I was hoping for.The drip coffee was thankfully okay. I would have appreciated if the bartender didn't try to upsell me on coffee based mixed drinks after I asked for regular espresso. Also, how do you have espresso for cocktails but not for an actual hot espresso drink of any kind? The Phoebe's salad was pretty good. Fresh and crispy. The table bread was served cold but was a decent sourdough.Price was average, a little steep for the overall lack of quality.Just very disappointing. Not planning to run back soon.EDIT 3/9/24 I decided to give this another try for my Birthday dinner. Service was great (it was a kind of slow night) and 4 of 5 dinner dishes were perfect. Thank you Phoebes will be back.

This is such a cute and cozy place for a nice lunch. The architecture in this building is spectacular with such beautiful old details. The hubby was flying out to South Carolina for business so we decided to enjoy a lunch date with some drinks before he had to leave for the week. Phoebe's was the perfect choice. We started with the flat bread, the citrus goat cheese on this was amazing. I do think this needed a hot honey drizzle or a white balsamic drizzle to break up the richness of this dish but that's just an opinion it was still delicious. For drinks I got an espresso martini and the he got a spicy margarita they were both okay drinks but nothing spectacular. For lunch we got the quiche and the daily special of short ribs over penne pasta. The quiche was cooked perfectly so velvety and creamy. The short rib was nice and fork tender. The sauce on the pasta was a little thick and sperated but still had good flavor. For desert we got the creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was kinda dry and the apricot sauce had no flavor so we definitely enjoyed the creme brulee more. In all a good meal and a hubby full of delicious food for his flight. I look forward to returning and trying out dinner one day.

In Syracuse and it's my birthday! Lived here for 14 yrs and I never went to Phoebe's. Service was some of the best I've had ever. No long pauses between drinks soup appetizers and entree. No rush to leave either! I ordered the soup of the day which was New England clam chowder and it was outstanding. Lots of clams, my husband ordered the sweet potato soup and being the meat and potato man that he is he surprisingly loved it. We also had the duck wonton for appetizers the sauce was sweet and spicy and very good. My husband and son had the special of quail. Though they said it was very good, generally an entree of quail contains 2 quail as they are small. It was well cooked. I had the autumn shrimp and I chose the smaller plate. I've never had fall spiced shrimp seasoned with nutmeg, all spice & cinnamon. Little different than I am accustomed to but I knew it would be! I ate all the shrimp but not all the vanilla jasmine rice. Definitely would go again next time in Syracuse.

Went to Phoebe's after a show at the Syracuse Stage. My wife and I always go for drinks after. The atmosphere is bright and pleasant, crisp with an old comfortable feel. My wife and I split some starters, both the Fried Calamari and Warm Tomato Caprese Dip were very good. My only complaint was that the Dip only came with about 4 or 5 small pieces of bread, which was less than adequate to finish off the dip (maybe half and that was with large amounts of dip on each piece of bread). Who wants to eat straight dip with a spoon?? not me...more bread please! Otherwise it was enjoyable and affordable.

Update, went with a large group of 11 people and had a very nice time. Food continues to be wonderful, the staff is kind, helpful and attentive and it's really nice inside. I'm going to add a short commentary at the very bottom if you're interested in the large group payment process, otherwise you can just read about the awesome stuff from previous visits as well...My wife and I have always enjoyed Phoebe's. Every time we have gone it's been such a pleasurable experience. Smooth, pleasant and quick service with really good to great food. Our most recent visit we had poutine, pork, duck, and berry tart. The holy cow that was fantastic awards goes to the poutine and tart, absolute must try options. The duck was cooked to perfection and my wife was thinking it may be one of the best she's ever had. The pork was very good, it had some wonderful juicy bites and also some dry ones though. Pork is my go to order and I've had better for sure, but that's not to be mistaken for how delicious it still was. We will continue to come back and enjoy it more in the future, I encourage you to do the same. Enjoy!!First off, Phoebe's makes it clear what their policy and process is for this. Some responsibility is with us as the patrons.Groups larger than 8 will get 18% gratuity added, cool I actually think that's great. Taking care of large groups deserves that and as noted our server was wonderful. Unfortunately, they will not split the check. As you may imagine, not splitting the check creates fun for everyone, math ensues, labeling of credit cards and how much on each, adding it up, who did the math wrong and so on, and then we hand our disaster of a system over to our server and I don't know how it works for them but it took awhile and I felt terrible that we weren't prepared with another method to make it easier on them, or they as a policy for whatever reason, can't, or don't split the checks to begin with to save customers and staff alike the headache. An added 18% gratuity on split checks is the same number as one giant check, without the mess, thankfully math is a hero in that regard. As the patron, cash might be easier but if you're like myself, cash on hand is more of a rarity in my life as time goes on. If someone has a nice credit limit on their card and everyone does Venmo or a money exchange of that nature, you may be better off using those methods and you would save yourself and their staff the headache as well.

Lovely cafe & restaurant in Syracuse with welcoming staff and good service. I had a delicious French onion soup to start. For the entree I had the salmon dish and asked for medium and to be served with double vegetables instead. The dish was ok, I didn't really enjoy the flavor of the salsa verde and the fish was cooked well done. However, the plate presentation was really pretty and they did comp a bit off the price since I only ate a few bites. I was still hungry so I ordered the spinach salad, it was tasty. I also ordered a dirty chai with a shot of espresso and I'm fairly certain they forgot the shot because it wasn't on my bill. Overall, a pretty good meal with a few hiccups but I'd definitely give them another try when I'm in the area.

This restaurant is a really nice place to dine with a group of friends. I met up with a business partner here, and she made a reservation, which was amazing considering I was new in the area, and it seemed the place was jam-packed when I arrived. But I have to say when I arrived the host WAS AMAZING VERY FRIENDLY and it seemed that she was waiting for me, because when I arrived she knew exactly what to do and showed me the young lady. But this is where everything went left somewhat. We asked for a virgin mojito, and she told me they didn't have any mint. We asked her if they had any virgin drinks, and she said yes, soda, water, or juice. Mind you, they have a bar in this establishment, but they had no mocktails. So I went with an orange juice, considering this was brunch/ lunch. When she came back with our drinks she told us the soup special and the meal specials. After she told us that we said thank you. And then she turned around to say "we do not have any fried chicken" I looked at my friend and she looked at me and I chuckled and said to the young waitress "That's fine because I don't believe we asked you for fried chicken." I continued to laugh. She walked away from the table after I said that. My friend stated she might have said that because we are the only people in this establishment that are black. I said ohh ok, that's fine, we have money just like them." But this is what happened next, SMH..We ordered our food and when my food arrived my fish sandwich was disgusting. It was not seasoned at all they just deep-fried it and put it on bread with lettuce tomatoes and onions. I sent my food back because there was no way I could eat it it just didn't taste right. So I ordered a cheeseburger medium, well 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️another lady, not our waitress, brought my burger, and the cheeseburger was well down slightly burnt, meaning one side was more burnt than the other side. But considering I was hungry, I tried to scrap off the brunt parts so I could eat it. My fries were good. But everything else was not. Before we left, consider I am a TA, and I do Google reviews as well. I checked out the rest of the restaurant, and I have to say they had some really nice areas as you entered the restaurant. Good places to take pictures and share your experience. I will share it under this review. So the best part was the wonderful greeting that I received, my orange juice being good, the character of the restaurant. But I wouldn't recommend this place for BLACK PEOPLE TO EAT HERE. I guess they believe we only eat FRIED CHICKEN. BECAUSE OF THAT PER THE WAITRESS AND THE COOK, I GUESS MY FOOD WASN'T SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD So I would not recommend this place. I don't live in Syracuse. I was here for business. This location came up to be a good place to eat at so we decided to dine here. But I WONT BE COMING BACK AND I WILL NOT RECOMMEND IT EITHER.

Beautiful restaurant! My daughter and I had reservations before seeing Anastasia at the Landmark Theater. We were seated at a very nice table for two but had to wait 20 minutes for our waitress to take our drink order. When she returned we ordered. My daughter had the beef tenderloin cooked medium rare, cooked perfectly, with all its sides. I ordered the shrimp and ramen. It was passable. Truly the shrimp, bok choy, and beef/pork were very good but the Ramen broth had some kind of thickener that ruined the meal. Our service was 2 stars at best. We'll try it again before passing judgement.

We came about an hour before closing and had a great experience. Cat was our server and she was fantastic. My wife has a litany of food sensitivities and Cat was awesome with suggestions. We all had a great meal and our son (a chef in a top restaurant in Kingston Ontario) was impressed as well. Fantastic service and a great night out!!!

My recent visit at Phoebe’s for dinner was very disappointing from the point of view of food. I have patronized this restaurant for many years and was never disappointed, until this last visit. I had the swordfish, which was on the regular dinner menu. Although the slice of fish was good in itself—it was fresh and wasn’t over cooked—, everything that came with it was quite awful. The caper sauce had more (raw) onions than capers and tasted of vinegar; it overwhelmed the fish, even after scraping off the sauce. The broccoli was so oversalted that it was barely edible. The worst part was the rice, which was mushy like porridge and came in clumps. It was probably precooked and warmed up in the microwave. Overall, one of my worst dining experiences in Syracuse, and certainly at Phoebe’s.Vegetarian options: There are some cooked options, and the salads are usually very good.Parking: I am not sure about availability of parking space in the adjacent parking lot if you don’t have an affiliation with Syracuse University, but there is metered street parking nearby. If you do have an SU permit, you can park in the lot.

Typical “ladies who lunch” venue. Clean but dated in style. The menu left me wanting.I ordered a burger and fries with No bun. This was unremarkable. Served with two homemade sauces neither of which I liked ( very sweet) I also ordered ice tea which was mediocre. Overall I wasn’t impressed.. on line menu wasn’t accurate and some things weren’t available.

So....it is a VERY cute place.Cons:Bread pudding is dry cubes of bread with a fruit drizzleCaesar dressing has stiff peaks, qualifies for the Dairy Queen Blizzard quality guarantee, and tastes like anchovies (see pics)Honey cinnamon latte was not sweetBlack bean burger tastes like one large unseasoned-yet-somehow-spicy pureed black beanPros:The bread is delicious (perhaps part of the warm olive appetizer?)The warm olive appetizer was greatThe croutons are awesome. They have recess coffee, which is always delicious. The gingerbread latte also does not come sweetened by default.I loved the creme brulee but it is very sweet.Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian entrees

Great spot with street parking near by. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food was delicious, seasonal, and totally hit the spot! My husband had the New England Clam chowder, I had the butter nut squash soup and the quiche of the day. It was super yummy and the space is just beautiful!!

Wish I had taken a picture of anything I was eating. I had the pork osobucco with smashed potatoes and green beans. Considering it was essentially ham and potatoes , it was absolutely deliciously prepared, tasted richly spiced and aromatic like a fine oxtail stew, with the sweetness of pork instead of beef. Even the potatoes were garlicky and delicious .I also had the amazing flourless chocolate tart and some of my daughters perfectly seared scallops and pesto and sun dried tomato gnocchi which was also delicious .Oh and so was the baked Brie with perfect crust and the Creme brülle with real vanilla bean , though one of them was a little over crusted, it was still delicious .Also our server was FANSTASTIC , I wish I got his name. A bearded ginger gentleman, every bit the professional, perfect decorum and Person-ability both. Had excellent sense of when to descend and when not too, when to approach and when not too, an otherwise difficult thing to do for a party of 15 who just came from a funeral.Anyway go. It’s a lovely but comfortable fine dining experience . Birthday? Wedding? Celebration all the better. Fantastic old world style but still has contemporary flair and relevant ambience . Five starsKid-friendliness: The waiter was very friendly and personable with my 10 year old and took her order directly
