I would like to help feature a current dog that's available at the Syracuse SPCA named "Mitch." I had the opportunity to get to know him this past month visiting with him and even doing a meet and greet with my current dog Sam. He was nothing but a gentle gentlemen around her. I was very close to adopting him but my responsibilities in getting my elder dog to the eventual finish line took me out of contention. That being said, Mitch is legitimately one of the sweetest dogs I've ever come across in my travels. Even in his kennel, when other dog's are getting vocal and energetic, he is as cool/calm a customer as you'll find in that environment-- beyond chill. He knows how to sit and lay down, and if you hand him a treat, he's so gentle taking it from you it almost looks like he's doing it in slow motion! He would be a perfect dog for a home looking for a laid back and loving soul. Unfortunately, he's been there since this past November after arriving as a stray. Bottom line, he deserves a great owner and a great life. As of 3/25/2024 he's still there and ready for his forever home. The picture attached to this review is as recent as last week. So what are you waiting for? Go visit Mitch!! He's a gem! You won't regret it!! The end.

We lost our family kitty a few months ago and were searching for the perfect new addition. CNY SPCA were amazing every step of the way. The staff was not only friendly and helpful but the facilities were extremely clean and well managed. I’m so grateful we brought our little guy home with us!

Some lady accused me of trying to surrender "my dog." I found this dog abandoned in a parking lot. There are cameras. Besides this, how can she make assumptions about a strangers life. So unprofessional.

I called him and left my telephone number wanting information in reference to spaying on you ordering a feline and no one ever called me back and when I was on hold it was 10 minutes before closing and they kept picking up the hanging up picking up and hanging up every time I called back Truly sad if you don’t have enough people, please hire some. Thank you.

The staff was short and the place smelled like urine even after they had sprayed down the animal rooms prior to opening. It did appear that the animals were well taken care of and let out regularly which was nice. Even though we did not find a small dog to be a companion to our Dachshund we will try again sometime soon.

Very clean, and the staff were lovely. They understood my disabilities and wants in a doggo. Now saturday I'm bringing home my baby boy ❣️ they suggested me to him and I'm so happy they did!

This entire building is filled with nitwits people who make decisions based on feelings not on actual information or factual information everybody's Hearts bleed for the feral cats but not for the five Chipmunks the one ruffed grouse the two blue jays one Cardinal and two baby bunnies that have been killed in my yard throughout the two years you know what this place tells you to do with the with the feral cats trap them and release them on somebody else's property so they can destroy somebody else's property cats are super predators and need to eat every single day just do a little Google search on what's going on in Australia they've killed nearly seven native species of ground Birds I don't want this to happen in Onondaga County you need to come up with a solution absolutely pitiful disgraceful

The staff there was way less than helpful....in fact they were completely rude. With an approved adopt app they still didn't allow us to meet with any dog after telling us no on 3 different dogs for various different reasons ....from them being in training, to them being a pain and way too hyper.... doesn't seem like they had any type of passion to help the dogs. Their tone was condescending and unnecessary. I would recommend adopting a dog to anyone just not from there because they don't want to help you get thru the adoption process at all. I was very unhappy with this place. Really sad.....they are only sitting behind that desk being unhelpful just to collect a paycheck.... Disgraceful

We adopted Esther the cat back in 2015 who now proudly goes by Booboo (before and after pic included) and she has the most mean resting face but has come such a long way since we got her she was scared of doors and wouldn't drink out of a water dish but now she has our malamute (which we adopted in 2019 who goes by Mishka) and our pitmix wrapped around her little fluffy fingers. They were super helpful and let us meat countless cats and dogs until we found our perfect match. Im so glad we could help these 2 amazing animals get their furever homes! They made the most perfect additions to our family

We were told they had to get my landlords permission to adopt a small house dog meanwhile two neighbors dog were barking during the phone call. We felt like “go ask your mom and dad if it’s ok you have a dog” we own our home and their are at least six dogs within 200 feet of my home but you want my landlords permission. Well good luck adopting your poor dogs that need a good home if you overlook good people because you want permission from a third party that has nothing to do with my home.

Since our Misty passed we've been holding on to some dog stuff, non perishable. But after a few years it was time to donate her big bed.

Volunteering walking dogs at The CNYSPCA has shown me first hand the true love and patience the staff and everyone at the shelter shows for all types of their animals. Everybody wants what's best for the dogs and everybody from the staff to volunteers are so friendly and welcoming. You really can see the passion for all the dogs, cats, and other animals at the CNYSPCA and the local community. I'd highly recommend anyone to volunteer or donate to this shelter if possible. A shelter is a scary place for a dog to be filled with anxiety and stress, but the staff and volunteers here do so much for the animals to make that process as easy a transition it can be for everybody involved.

I found the companion for me. They were so helpful and worked with me and my schedule. They really care about the animals here, so much so that one of Snoopy’s(my dog) caretakers teared up. But they are so happy when a match is found!

This is a hard place to rate. I know that this is a physically tough, and emotionally trying job. People for various reasons, have to leave their pets behind, and the folks at the SPCA pick up the pieces. Having said that, I think this place is a wonderful and necessary asset to the CNY community. I highly respect each and every person who either works or volunteers there.

Disorganized and rude. Couldn’t give us any consistent information on any of the dogs we asked about. One person said they dog we wanted was adopted but another said they had an application on the dog and said we couldn’t even put in an application despite wanting to find the “best fit” for each animal. You can’t find a best fit using a first come first serve system! I feel bad for the poor animals who get sent to bad homes because of this shelter’s flawed system.

We got both of these furbabies from the CNY SPCA. I can say I'm so grateful for being able to adopt them. They are both sweet, beautiful creatures who have brightened our lives immensely. I see someone made a comment about it being strange that there are mostly pitbulls up for adoption. It's not strange. It's the result of tons of misinformation about the breed. They've gotten a really bad rap. Generally speaking, pitbulls are super sweet, playful cuddlebugs. My baby is no different. Adopt don't shop! The SPCA is great and I am so thankful for all they do for these helpless creatures who have come into their care.

While out running, I found a dog running in and out of the streets. After looking locally for the owners, I contacted the non-emergency 911, reported the dog missing, and then transported the dog to the CNYSPCA at the suggestion of the Syracuse police department. Upon arrival I was confronted by a larger lady with curly hair up in a bun (I wish I had her name). She very rudely told me that she “already told me that she wouldn’t take the dog because they were not contracted by the city,” and offered no other assistance. She would not take my name and number in case an owner called looking for the dog, nor would she check to see if it was microchipped. When I commented that she didn’t have to be so rude because I was just trying to do the right thing by this dog her response was, “if you want to see rude I will show you rude,” and then stepped towards me in a very threatening manner. I’ve never felt so mistreated for trying to do the right thing. My question is, why is this person working in an establishment if she wasn’t willing to help the dog. I understand if they couldn’t take it in, but she could have assisted in other ways in order to find its owner. I sincerely hope that this issue is addressed with her as I will never again support this agency.

Visited only the cats up for adoption. They are as well taken care of as possible. The agency is open about any health issues the animals may have. Name, age, date surrendered and health problems are all posted on the cage of each animal. They have an open room where cats can roam freely with access to what is like a small, enclosed patio they can go out to. The ladies working the front desk were kind and helpful.

I haven't had much luck here , we did adopt a cat once but the prices can be kinda high since they come w all there shots and work done. I called about a stray cat and she couldn't help me . So I can't say this is the best place for pets but in a pinch it's something better then nothing. Good luck use your best judgement

Jen Lynch I don't understand why you are blatantly LYING about the incident that happened on Saturday .. you called were told by a volunteer we do not contract with the city of Syracuse and we could not take the dog. She suggested you call the non emergency police line for them to help you, yet you still brought the dog to us, you did not ask us to scan the dog, you did not offer to leave your information. When I TOLD YOU to bring the dog to B&R Bunkhouse as that is where the city dogs are housed you told me I was rude ... Because you didn't like the SAME answer you already received over the phone....yes I told you I could show you rude because believe me I was not rude to you, when YOU CAME back in to start yelling and then you said Ok come on show me, I was behind a desk though about 15 feet from you so not sure how you felt threatened 😂😂

There is a review above from a young lady named Lynch, I was there when this event occurred. She had been clearly told on the phone that we don’t contract with the city, and that she could not bring the dog to us. Her beef is a syracuse animal control, not with CNYSPCA, she should direct her anger to them because they’re not open on the weekends. We are completely full. And have nowhere to put a dogs that we are not contracted to take care of. It is not the fault of the CNYSPCA that there is nowhere for her to take that dog.

We handed in our application the day we went to view their available dogs. We were immediately approved (we have no kids and we own our house, so there was no complications), and we were able to schedule a meet and greet within the week. The staff was friendly, helpful, and flexible. They worked with our schedule as best they could and were flexible about which dogs we wanted to meet. We picked our dog that day and are waiting to bring him home!Overall, they were quick to respond to emails and phone messages and were very easy to work with! They were also thorough with information and the process as a whole.Update: we came back 4 months later for a second adoption, and the process was even easier this time around since they had most of our info! The meet and greet went well and we brought home our second dog within 2 weeks
