Where do I begin,Doctors misdiagnosed my dog and stated he was dealing with a UTI based off a urinalysis. Then recommended I have my dog take a pill every day for 20 days until the medicine finished.Problem resurfaced & 600$ later the doctor tells me it was never meant to completely eliminate the infection and we’d have to preform two additional uncomfortable exams too see if he has a strong infection or stones. They did all this without even doing an ultrasound to begin with. Had they did that from the start we could have tackled this 4 months ago. Instead they preformed an X-ray on everything but my dogs urinary system. Stated there were no stones and they’ll have lab results in a week with a solution. Instead I got a call back with no answer. No resolution. Just frustration and over 1000$ wasted.Ultimately I went to another doctor. Where we preformed everything according to the correct procedures and it turned out my dog didn’t have a uti and has been dealing with a bladder stone since December.P.P.A.H misdiagnosed, convinced me to give my dog pills he didn’t need for something he didn’t have Took 1600$ in the process and didn’t deliver on their word.My advice is to do your own research, speak to people who dealt with similar issues and learn about what can and should be done before you let PPAH walk over your wallet and time because you don’t know better.

We just had the WORST experience at a vet in over 50 years of being a pet owner. PPAH was recommended when my cat started limping and our regular vet would not be open for days bc of the holiday. They were so nice and fit us right in; the young tech was lovely and caring; the place seemed clean. Then it turned. We waited in the exam room with our cat out of the carrier and getting more and more anxious for 30 minutes for the Dr. I felt hopeful when she came in. Seemed nice. She asked the same questions the tech had asked 🤷♀️ and then looked in our cat’s ears and mouth and announced that she didn’t think she could examine her without sedating her - and that it was too late bc there would not be enough time before the office closed. She said she would give her an anti inflammatory injection and some pills and we could come back on Tuesday. However - she wanted to take our cat to a “downstairs room” to give the injection and wanted to do a $700 blood work up to make sure she could have the anti inflammatory! I told her she had had it from our vet previously and that I was not comfortable with them taking the cat somewhere without me there. At this point she got very defensive and said “why are you treating me like this? I don’t deserve to be treated this way!” 😳 I responded ( extra calmly) “ how am I treating you?? I am just letting you know that I am not comfortable with this!” We ended, tersely, with her prescribing the oral version, not giving her the shot and me signing a waiver. She did not even TOUCH MY CAT! We couldn’t leave quickly enough and have a profound renewed appreciation for our vet, Dr Dembitsky, at Hylan animal hospital!!Bottom line - $95 for NOTHING AND $55 for 4 pills that cost $11.95 on Chewy.

Very expensive. I wish they had not charged me after my cat passed away… I brought in my cat and the power went out in their building only, and we were there for about two hours… My cat was definitely on the brink of death… But after a couple hours they had advised me to go to their sister location by the Staten Island railroad. There the vet told me that there was nothing they could do, advised me to put the cat down. I still had to pay a few hundred dollars for the visit, euthanizing the cat. I think the right thing would have been to just not charge me at all given the power outage and all the waiting around for a few hours was probably what certified the death, even if he didn’t really have a chance… It made the whole experience a lot worse, dragged out. I can’t prove those few hours would’ve saved him but it was indeed possible, and for the fact we don’t know is why they should’ve waived the fee.

I brought my almost 2 year old rescue here for the first time this week. She was abused, so she is super fearful around people, especially strangers at the vet. The staff was SO patient and accommodating to her needs. She wasn’t muzzled and I was allowed to stay with her for her entire visit. We came for vaccinations but she also had an ear infection. They cleaned her ears, gave us medicine, and demonstrated to me how to administer her medication properly. I was able to schedule a follow up appointment fairly quickly and anytime I’ve called someone always answers the phone and they are always extremely pleasant and informative. My girl received really quality care for a price that I consider extremely reasonable considering I don’t have pet insurance. We had a great experience and I will definitely be recommending this facility to anyone who needs a vet! Thanks again to the entire staff for being so wonderful and caring!

Pleasant plains Animal Hospital on Forest ave provides amazing care. The receptionists are very helpful and accommodating. The techs are so knowledgeable and so is the vet, Dr. Donohue. She was very caring and professional during the exam. Discussed best treatments and answered all my questions. I felt so at ease and not once felt I was being rushed.

The doctors seemed caring and experienced but their admin needs more training about consent of services and communication on pricing. I was booked a return well visit for second-dose vaccines today for my one-year-old Pomeranian. Doctor from last visit told me I didn’t need to see him for this visit, just the shots from the nurses/technicians. The front desk however failed to write that down and put me in the office to see a doctor without my consent or transparency about additional payments. I had to pay $70 extra for speaking with the doc for the less than 5 minutes she checked my health dog that was just checked thoroughly a month ago. I felt they preyed on my nervousness as a new dog owner.

Edit: Increasing to 4 stars... the office followed up and made things right. I'm not thrilled it took a phone call, but certainly appreciate the follow up, which is more than I expected and suggests a better quality of customer service than we initially experienced. Not sure if we'll return or not, but wouldn't be fair at this point to rate this lower.Original: Not transparent about pricing. After dog vaccinations, we had a couple questions. They had the doctor answer them and then wanted to bill $70 for a five minute conversation without telling us in advance they would charge for that. We would have just used Google had we known. Also not the cleanest vet. Technician was super friendly but didn't wash hands after cleaning up urine (didn't use disinfectant to clean up urine).

The building is new and very nice, the vets are great but I have always had a problem getting scripts in a timely manner. There seems to be some disconnect between the front desk and the vets. I would think after the blood work was back a script would be provided in a day or so. Not here. This was the second time I had to chase them for it. My cat was fired as a result of my asking every day for the script. Keep in mind he has seizures. This is after paying $482 on December 27. A one week script finally January 8. Now I have to take the bloodwork to another vet to actually have a proper monthly supply script provided.

I will NEVER bring my dog to this veterinary practice anymore. Even if I have to pay and cross the bridge to bring my dog to see her vet in Brooklyn, I will. We came to this clinic twice for initial wellness check and vaccination follow-up, both respectively with two different doctors. However, neither of the two doctors detected my dog's heart murmur and irregular heartbeat. I brought my dog about 10 days (2/28) after her last visit at Pleasant Plains (2/18) to the vet in Brooklyn and it was then that we found my dog had a 3rd degree AV block, an urgent serious cardiac condition that can lead to sudden death. We had to go to the ER for emergency treatment (3/2). I have no idea how both doctors at Pleasant Plains could have missed this significant illness. They said that my dog was healthy with the only health conditions being the mole on her muzzle and her teeth. They kept recommending me to get her teeth clean and simultaneously get the mole removed, even though clearly her heart condition is more severe and the dental and mole removal are secondary. Overall, I am frustrated and angry at the doctors for not catching this condition, the terrible service, and the cost of the procedures done (not cheap at all especially if you do not have pet insurance). Also, they do not specify what is included in the senior wellness check - just blatantly states senior wellness. I cannot imagine what would have happened to my dog had I not brought her to another vet in Brooklyn, who made the correct diagnosis, and to the ER.A more detailed review after each visit will be on Yelp for other fur parents to read.

I have been going to Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital with my Yorkie, Molly May for some time now. This was the first time I went to the Forest Avenue location. The staff was helpful & pleasant. The office was spotless.Molly has been seeing Dr.Donahue for a collapsing trachea. I cannot thank her enough for the care she has given. She has gone above & beyond with her care. She made sure to explain everything to us & ease our minds. Would highly recommend Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital.

Highly recommend this veterinary practice. I’ve never had a problem getting an appointment. The entire facility is spacious and very clean. Staff are friendly and genuinely really like animals. Most importantly, I highly recommend both Pleasant Plains North and South for their expertise, care, and compassion for their patients. My very young dog had been struggling with vomiting and diarrhea. She was hospitalized once overnight and it was greatly reassuring that they have a vet on premise 24/7. They even texted a goodnight and good morning photo while hospitalized. We tried all the more common treatments, but very quickly Dr Meleleo ascertained that she might be struggling from EPI, a lack of pancreatic enzymes. He ran the test and she is indeed positive for EPI. Within less than 24 hours the test was run, the results were back, and he had medicine ready for her. In the space of less than 6 hours since her first dose, I can already see wonderful results. I am very impressed. And being old and having had many many dogs throughout my long life, it takes a lot to impress me. Pleasant Plains, happily my new vet.

Terrible experience at this place! My cat was bitten on the tail by my brothers cat who is vaccinated and has her rabies shot. I brought my cat here to get treated . They decided to keep my cat stating she’s a risk for rabies and are refusing to release her to me. They are stating that they will keep her for over a week to observe her without my approval and want me to pay for the over night stays wich is absurd! My wife went to see her today and said that they put a collar around her neck and her cage is filthy with food and water all over the place. I regret bringing my cat here!

Originally, I take my cats to Aadobe animal hospital across he street. But Dr. Singh is on vacation and no one is filling in for him.So, I decided to give this place..."Pleasant Plains" a try because my cat has bad asthma and possibly laryngitis. It was cold out today, I am disabled and partially blind. My cat and I had to wait outside for about ten to fifteen minutes for the staff to make a determination if they would be able to see my cat today. I asked if they could at least allow my cat, who was in her carrier, to stay inside to stay warm while they were deciding if they would see her. I was told no. I was also told I could come back at 2:30PM today OR that I could go to PetSmart and wait there for two hours and come back...this was difficult for me to do though given my aforementioned disabilities. From Pleasant Plains website: "At Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital, we take great pride in providing the latest in animal medical care."

My fur baby of 16 years had problems walking. We contacted her reg vet and they were overbooked. They couldn't get us in for almost 2 weeks. We have been with them all her life. The pleasant plains north shore hospital is close to us. They have very good reviews. Called them and they were very understanding. Got us in that same day. After diag and a blood test I could wait for the results. We found out she was in kidney failure. The vet explained all the options. We took her home and made her comfortable. It took 2 days for her health to go down hill. We called them the next day and they got us in. They gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. I can't thank the staff enough. They are all very kind and understanding. I will definitely recommend them to anyone. Thank you again.

What a great experience I had bringing my cat here for an annual check up and an update on his vaccines! They have a great system in place to ensure social distancing during Covid; you drive up, park your car, and give them a call to let them know you're there. They have the number posted everywhere for convenience, and they come out to gather your animal so that you don't have to go inside! Everyone was very friendly and attentive.

I took my Dog here for the first time. My old vet was Dr. V at Forest Ave and I decided to try something new. I had a really pleasant experience. My vet visit did cost more here but only by $50. I am happy spending the extra money as the place looks very clean, I did not wait for hours, staff was attentive and very informative. Time is money and the staff was very efficient. I will recommend to my friends

Friendly staff that are always quick, efficient, and thorough. Everyone that works at PPAH seems very passionate and educated in their roles. They explain charges and medical information, in a simpler way for patients to understand. I feel like I am getting top level care and professional medical advice/services from both their North and South locations, and I wouldn't take my dog anywhere else.

Just brought my 6 year old Jack Russell here. This place is fantastic!!! The whole staff was very friendly and helpful. The doctor was spot on with diagnosis. Price was half of what I thought it would be. Highly recommend. I definitely found a new vet for our doggy.

I have been going to PPAH on the South Shore for many years. Living in Westerleigh, I am so happy that they have now opened their North Shore location! My Fifi La Roux goes to Dr. Meleleo. She’s a 17 year old grey and white tabby cat. Dr. M is also the only Doctor Fifi has ever known. He is honest and very thorough with his examinations and explaining diagnoses. The entire staff from reception, techs to management is absolutely top notch.I know that I can always trust their care. Especially through these difficult times where you’re not allowed in with your pets.If you love your pet and want them to be treated the way you would treat them if you were a Veterinarian or a Vet Tech, then this is where to go. Fifi LOVES seeing all of the staff too!

get it together guys... we’re in the middle of a pandemic and there are animal lovers out there that can’t dish out hundreds of dollars in order for you to take care of our pets. You’re the for one reason, the animals, and not the money
