I've been so fortunate to taste many delicacies from Chef Viverito over the last few months at various events I've attended. His food is always fresh, delicious, innovative and always beautifully presented. I'm looking forward to visiting the Woodpecker General Store in person one of these days. From the photos I've seen, it looks very charming and welcoming.

Sandwich 1) reuben...to die for. Hearty and delicious.Sandwich 2) pesto chicken...ridiculously amazing. Flavorful and it's own meal.Eric and Erica are so personable and excited to be in this position snuggled in Staatsburg. And I, for one, am so glad that they are here! Not only is the food wonderful, they have a great collection of extras to browse and purchase from. I plan on making this a frequent stop. Helps that they are located right down the street, but if you are traveling Rte 9, they are SO worth the stop in. You can really feel the love, care, and expertise put into everything.Wishing Woodpecker General Store many years of success!

It’s sad to see that woodpecker is temporarily closed. It’s a great little place. Good coffee and tasty sandwiches with place to enjoy it outside. Hope they’ll reopen for summer season as we were frequent guests and will miss their food and chatting with stuff.

This place opened for business recently. I stopped in and ordered one of their gourmet sandwiches, it was absolutely delicious. I look forward to my next visit to try another of their gourmet sandwiches.

I got an egg white, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich there for $7.50. The egg whites were from white shelled eggs, not local, free range chickens. I'd rather go to Rhinebeck Bagel any day. This place is Kaput because of the owners pompous attitude with his customers. Too bad you bought the building, now you're living in the store.Below is what you get at Rhinebeck Bagel for $7.00 and no complaints from the owner

Having sent and received gift boxes from the Woodpecker General Store, it's a favorite all around! In particular, don't sleep on the thai sticks or drageed hazelnuts.

I grew up with Hilltop Deli so I was really sad to see it closed after such a long awesome run but all great things must come to an end I suppose. With that said, I am so happy that such a nice place opened in its spot. The sandwich I had was great (tuna melt) and I love that they have imported Italian products, something needed up here. Will return. Be sure to give it a try while driving by. Also I think their prices are fine given the quality of food you get.

We've had lunch from Woodpecker General Store multiple times through work and on our personal time. The food has always been absolutely delicious. Highly recommend them!! My coworkers favorite is the Chicken and Rabe, she's absolutely ecstatic when we're ordering! Keep up the good (delicious) work!!

Just a few minutes down the road from me. The layout is adorable, the coffee is self-serve, fast & fresh. My partner and I picked up some basics, you know, milk and butter—some produce. Everything looked delicious and worth a try. They even have local craft beers and just so happened to have a few of our favorites in stock. If there is an item that you want and don’t see, they also seem willing to order it for you! Just ask!There is an excellent team here at Woodpecker General Store and the owners and chef are very friendly :) An amazing addition to the area that will no doubt become a staple for locals and visitors alike.P.S… the egg sandwiches are incredible.

I think the two negative reviews are off base. I’m happy to pay a slightly higher price than normal for a meal if it means the rest of my community benefits from it. I love that a lot of their food options are locally sourced. Also, the sandwiches are massive. You’re paying for quality AND quantity here. The owners don’t skimp.I’m here weekly. I’m excited to have these delicious breakfast and lunch options in the area. I’ve tried a few different meals and have loved each of them. My go to’s are the breakfast burrito and the fried chicken sandwich. I’m looking forward to trying their banh mi and eggplant parm.The owners are wonderful. They’re always up for a good chat while waiting for my food to be made. I highly recommend this new spot in the area.

Fantastic new addition to the neighborhood. Locally sourced produce, amazing beautiful sandwiches, and the chocolate selection! They have homemade German-style pretzels on the weekend- bought one this morning and it was still warm!

Hi all,First, the food is amazing. I was there last Friday and ordered the Cubano- YUMMY!... But, I was very disappointed in the "chef's" attitude towards his customers and his workers. While I was there, I over heard the woman at the register, who was taking an order over the phone state that the "chef" will not allow modification to his menu, the reason being that he just opened and they are short staffed. I watched the employee ask the "chef" a question about the possible modification, his response was to tell her to hang up on them if they don't understand he's not doing modifications. Next, I watched the woman in front of me ask for a sandwich without something, again they refused to modify anything. After the woman left, the employee went back to the "chef" to ask something, and I heard him state something to the effect of -I don't want them (the customer) here if they don't understand were not doing modifications.I understand the stress of an opening, I would suggest doing a limited menu but more importantly treat the customers and your employees with kindness.This place would be amazing if the ego can come back down to normal.

Stopped by for lunch recently on the recommendation of a local friend who raved about it. I ordered a Pulled Pork and Broccoli Rabe Panini and my girlfriend got a “Bluebird Special” as a salad. Given the prices ($14 range), I was somewhat unpleasantly surprised when I was handed a smallish panini and similarly sized salad. While the panini tasted okay, I was surprised it didn’t come with a side, and the salad consisted of a dried out chicken breast that was slightly burnt over a bed of iceberg lettuce with a small amount of diced bacon and tomato, not good “value for money” to me. I have read all of the other review responses that mention the high cost of sourcing quality local ingredients and I understand that, but I frequent many other similar local establishments (specifically “Lola’s” and “Main Course” in New Paltz and “Sugar and “Spice” in Poughkeepsie), who also offer high quality food, at similar price points, with far more generous portion sizes and sides for sandwiches/paninis.

So yes this is a review about a sandwich. But WHAT a sandwich. I ordered the cuban sandwich here and have decided it was SO good I needed to leave a review. I grew up in Miami and have eaten Cuban food my whole life. This was the best cuban sandwich I have EVER had. The roasted pork was super flavorful. Somehow the mustard and mayo blend was unlike anything before with great tang and strong flavor. The bread was authentic and toasted/pressed to perfection. My wife had a roasted veggie sandwich on ciabatta and it was phenomenal. Rants all around. Skip past everything and drive here to get your food.

Stopped in yesterday after walking my Dogs at Hopeland and tried Luca's Roast Beef -- roast beef, gorgonzola, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, picked red onions, and horseradish sauce on the nicest sour dough roll. Looking forward to trying the NY Reuben.

The store: This is an awesome general store! It is the perfect combination of everything, random supplies one might need while on the road or for their car, general items like cereals, canned goods, drinks, and granola bars. They have also done a wonderful job at curating some local goods as well which include specialty items like special drinks, jams, cheeses, coffee, even produce (!!!). They have some beautifully chosen items like crystals and stationary as well, (to name a few, I need to go back and explore even more). I feel like this is a perfect representation of a general store. Kelle is also extremely personable and kind. She is open to all recommendations to help keep this gem of a general store part of our community and provide us with items we are searching for in a store like this.The food: Listen, I am a foodie to the max! This was the BEST tuna melt I’ve ever had. If you’re a tuna fan (or honestly even if you’re not), TRY THIS. I also had the roast beef on ciabatta - best horseradish sauce ever, sundried tomatoes were amazing. We also got the veggie panini which was incredible and smelled so good. The garlic spread was delicious. Kale salad was so good, we loved the dressing and the way you guys chopped the kale, so much easier to eat that way! Haha it’s the little things. The star of the show for me was the coconut milk rice pudding. IN-SANE. If you’re into a lighter, thinner classic rice pudding, this one isn’t for you. But if you’re like me and you love a nice bite, custardy-chewy-coconutty-comforting rice pudding, this is IT! Everything about this rice pudding is everything I’ve ever wanted. The raisins, the coconut. I loved it from the first bite to the last.Chef Gerard was teaching at the CIA the day I stopped in, but I met Chef Eric and Kelle, the nicest people who genuinely want to please their customers and provide high quality food made with love. I’ll be back for sure! ☺️

The place has the air of a bougey gas station convenience store. On the one side of the rack, they have truffle oil, and on the other, ingredients for making s'mores.In general, this general store just didn't appeal to me, so I probably won't be back any time soon.
