Five stars overall.Extremely high rating for the foodGood rating for the serviceExtremely low rating for the obnoxious people sitting next to us. But likely they won’t be there when you go!We really enjoyed the skirt steak and the duck. Both have a beautifully blended array of unique flavors and perfect texture. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, but she was clearly waiting on an unmanageable number of tables. When we’re next on Shelter Island, this will be high on our list.

Well remember you’re on an island. The food was fine. The atmosphere was decent. The service was decent too however to charge $42 for a piece of fried chicken and I do mean one piece of fried chicken I think is just ridiculous and I was there with 3 Kids so The bill for the five of us was approximately $235 plus a $35 tip. If the kids want fried chicken, you can’t just say no My girlfriend did not like her salmon. Actually, she prefers the way I cook it.

The surprise here was the food, which was just extraordinary, the best duck confit I’ve ever eaten, the miso salmon outstanding. Excellent wine by the glass. Amazing atmosphere full of energy and just the nicest people working there. But I just can’t get over the duck, substantial portion, incredibly tender, replaced the Gramercy Tavern duck as my all-time favorite.

We came here for date night and sat at the bar. The waitstaff was professional and attentive. The food selection was finite but delicious. We ordered the duck confit and the curry chicken. The drinks were crafted perfectly. We had a nice time and would come back.

First time at the restaurant. Did not disappoint and the Fra D and the Bolognese were delicious. Hot baked bread and solid bar drinks make this a win.

Charming interior space with exposed wood, high grade ingredients. Miso glazed salmon on bok choy was delicious as were the grilled lamb chops with roasted root vegetable. Wonderful spot for special dinners!

All I can say is wow. In the land of bad service and overpriced food, Vine Street delivered above and beyond. On a crowded Saturday night in July, our table was ready on time, our service was experienced and professional, and the food was by far the best we have had on the entire East End. We had the tuna tacos, calamari salad, linguine fra diavolo , duck confit, oysters and beet salad and all were delicious, interestingly spiced and cooked to perfection. The home made bread was to die for, and not charged for as so many other places annoyingly do these days. Too bad we have to take a ferry to get here, as we would come more often!

I wanted to love this place but we can’t say we did. The portions are small, salmon over cooked but had potential to be tasty, the salad overdressed, and I recollect seeing a charge for bread they provided on the bill (they say otherwise). The waiter was not personable until the very end. At the outset he asked if we wanted water…sparkling or still? we said “still” thinking it was tap, but out came a bottle which we stopped him from opening in favor of tap…the $10 bottle still ended up on the bill (which we had removed). Hence the 1 star for service. Atmosphere was nothing special (not terrible- just meh) and as others noted, not a particularly warm greeting or thank you for coming. Not many options on the island though, so this pricey spot is good enough to get some raves that they wouldn’t get in a place like Nantucket.

Not inexpensive but one of, if not the, best eatery on the island. We've only been several times but have always experienced excellent food with service that matched the expectations.

This place is great I wish I took a picture of the food. Had the rigatoni, some wine and the sticky pudding.

I happened to be on the island last night. Excited to get my fav treat the Calamari Salad from Vine. Dine in excellent, take out horrible. Not enough salad dressing on the side, not dressed beforehand great. But provide enough. No utensils to eat on the beach as planned and $73 total for one beer and wine. Leaves a whole lot to be desired. We won’t be back. Dissatisfied ex-customer.

I really wanted to like this place, but I can't ignore our experience with the service. Our food took about an hour to come out after ordering it. Somehow fries and aioli ended up in my miso glazed salmon (turns out our waiter spilled about 15 of them in on his way to the table...and didn't realize it). We repeatedly asked for water and for the check. The food is good, but woof.

Had one of the best meals in a while. Staff was great. Sat at the bar and there was a partition between us. Felt safe. Hernan was amazing! Loved watching him in action making drinks for tables as we enjoyed our courses. Never skipped a beat! Could not as for a better experience on shelter island! As a local to the north fork we rarely venture out “that far” to go out but will definitely come again!!!

The restaurant is totally overrated. There are a few good restaurants in Shelter Island so this one gets good reviews. Our main dish took over 1/2 hour to arrive. Our waitress had no answer. This is what happens when you hire all young people without a manager in sight. The food here is just OK nothing to write home about. We came at 7:15 and still waited an eternity to get our main dish. I can’t imagine what would happen to the crowd at 8:15. Those who want mediocre food and lousy service can continue to go to this restaurant. I for oneI am not that foolish

Food was pretty good for the most part, some definitely better than others. But we showed up at 530 as a party of 7 and the service was horribly slow. Incredibly slow. They kept saying things were backed up - the bar was backed up so the drinks would be a while. The kitchen was backed up so the food would be a while. Meanwhile, parties seared after us received their food and drinks well before we did. It was a dinner that really tried our patience, and if the food was great it would prob have gone unnoticed, but it wasn't.

I've been going to Shelter Island for a holiday for over 20 years and this is the first time we went to Vine Street after my friends who live there highly recommended it. I really wanted it to be as good as they did but it wasn't.From the rudeness of the bartender to the food that was really just okay considering the prices which I'm certainly not surprised by on Shelter but I still expect to be reflected in the execution of the dishes. I was disappointed. She raves about the fried chicken but it was one underseasoned thigh on decent but certainly not excellent cheese grits for $35.00.The calamari salad looked good but the dressing was unbalanced and lacked acidity and interest. The special pastrami Ribs also lacked sparkle. The meat was tender but I expected that they would have some sort of crust and char that would make them resemble ribs or pastrami. The spicy tuna tartare tacos were again very one note and certainly not spicy. To me, most of the food tasted safe, but not like the kitchen was aimed at really delighting people who really love food. The restaurant was bustling so they are obviously hitting their target market, but I would have liked it too be much better. The best dishes were the mahi mahi and sticky toffee pudding.

Very Disappointed in the food. Everything in the order was incorrect. The Salmon was way undercooked, asked for MW. Asked for a substitute for the Bok Choi which we didn’t receive. The Bok Choi was overwhelmed with garlic. The coconut rice didn’t have any coconut. The response I received back from order taker was sorry, I’ll tell the chef. If I could give this meal a zero I would.Visited the restaurant and everything was outstanding from the service, management and the star of the show, the food. I’m going back this week. Clearly my last review was incorrect.

Packed everyone in like sardines, nothing special about the atmosphere and the food while good not worth the premium prices they charge.Wheelchair accessibility: Unless you are eating outside there is no wheelchair access.

Happened upon this sweet welcoming spot after some walking on the preserve on Shelter Island. Marco the bartender and our greeter/ waiter wee Warm and inviting and we spent a nice hour at the bar over a drink talking about the restaurant and life on Shelter Island. Food promised to be good and we will go back for dinner.....

I wish there were six stars with which to rate this restaurant. Nothing on the east end of Long Island compares to it for quality of food. It's like Stone Creek when they were just getting a name for themselves. The building is modest but mostly hand built and creative and cool. The staff are talented, devoted, hard working, proud, and yet quiet and modest. So secluded and hard to get to, being out on Shelter Island, but those who let small obstacles get in the way miss out on a lot. But there are real pros behind the scenes and they are putting it all out there. Start with the houses's Petite Chablis, awesome. Then run, dont walk to the Tuna tartar tacos. There is a franchise just in those tacos alone. The shells are like nothing you have ever tasted. Then order the calamari salad. I never get calamari, but this is a gem. Then, the entrees are everything you could ask for. Take your choice. Nice people, great craft, bon apatite. You can go to the overpriced, mediocre, pretentious, place in town, or you can drive to the Shelter Island ferry and explore cooking as an art and a craft. We live in Westhampton and this is our new favorite place.
