Tavern dining is always great here. Everything I’ve tried has been spot on. Fun, comfortable, and nice atmosphere. Plenty of space at tables or bar and a pool table to boot. Had a great soup special and burger last time I was here. Friendly staff.Walkability: Can walk on to the ferry from greenport and walk up the hill a few minutes to get here. A nice picturesque way to spend an afternoon and also save a few bucks on the ferry fare as a walk on passenger

So we were really hoping for a good experience. Costs a couple of bucks to get over there from the mainland and me and my wife haven't been to the Restaurant for quite a while. With good friends, food ok at best , more like a pub atmosphere than a restaurant and service was just terrible. So after terrible service we asked the less then attentive male waiter, backwards cap with a lolly pop in his mouth, for the check and give him two credit cards for the split. He brings back one at $120 and one at $180, clearly not a split. "What happened". Not sure he says "just make it up in the Tip"!! "Very difficult to split a check"!. So clearly he was making sure he was going to get a undeserved $60 dollar tip after clearly sub a sub par meal and terrible service. Nice try!!!

Today we stopped I. for an afternoon lunch at the newly renovated Chequit Inn with high expectations based upon the massive investment and articles we read. WHAT A DISASTER! The prices were high which is to be expected for a first class menu but we were not meant to sample it. We were ushered to a table outside, and we were the only ones on the patio for a Friday Afternoon at 3pm. We sat alone with no service for what seemed like a half hour. The individual who sat us did come out 3 times to either ask us if a server had shown up and none had. We left in disgust. I would suggest the owner sell, take the money out because lack of service will surely drive the Checquit out of business in a season or two. The views are poor, the menu is expensive, and the service is somewhere between none existent and poor. The Rams head inn is a better bet on Shelter Island.

Have been to the Tavern in the Chequit twice and have thoroughly enjoyed the food. Seated outside, six of us could easily converse, but seated inside, five of us had a terrible time hearing each other. While the renovations were pleasing to the eye, the acoustics were dreadful. Can't knock the food though; nice selection and delicious.

I can only review the restaurant portion, which came highly recommended from a shelter island local. The food was delicious! Like really really good. Prices were reasonable for the food we got. It was our waitresses first day so (understandably so) service was the latter part of the experience. I'd definitely give it another shot though.

Upon arrival no one was at the front desk. After a 15 minute wait and alerting the other staff, a lady whom had been smoking on the deck came around and gave me a key. We went to the Summer Hostel across the street. The rooms were from 1870 or maybe longer, they are not what you’d expect unless you used to living on the streets or in abandon places. The rooms are nod to prohibition and the furnishings reflect it. The one chair and refrigerator on the floor are a nice touch. The bathroom is the size of a closet and the blinds are broken. There are no amenities to speak of. I’m not sure what the appeal is or would be, but if you are interested in “roughing it”, then this is the place. Parking by the way follows the “prison rules” of get what you can, while you can. Next visit to Shelter Island I’d rather stay in a tent or the car.

Cool place, deck is beautiful and has tons of charm. Still undergoing major renovations. Be aware not are rooms are like the photos. The Hotel owns a few properties nearby and not all of them are renovated.Restaurant is fantastic.

We stayed at the hotel in the “summer house” area. The room had a big and comfortable bed but it is terribly squeaky even just moving an arm sets it off which made sleeping difficult. The air conditioning machine was very noisy in the lowest setting. The room was not clean, with tissue papers under the bed from previous guests. No minibar stocked. No breakfast in the hotel (for $450 a night for a rickety room i expected an included breakfast at least) one can only buy a few pastries and coffee at their cafe. We had dinner at the bar and ordered for cocktails. They didnt really know how to make a decent long island ice tea or a bloody mary, this last one tasted more like a wasabi soup than anything else. Terribly expensive for what it is. I wouldnt come back. The few good things: they were attentive to are arrival, easy no fuss 30 second check-in, their towels where good quality, the toiletries are good Maline brand and they give two complimentary bottles of water. Good to visit for looking at from the outside, but not much else for the price its at.

Perfect place for a quick weekend getaway, whichever the season! We took advantage of the off season lower rates and came in mid February and it was a great decision! Most places in town and region are closed, but at the same it is very quiet and peaceful. It was so good to chill by the fireplace with a glass of local wine after spending the day exploring in the cold! Breakfast was delicious as well! And the room beautiful! Totally recommend this place!

Super adorable and chic bed and breakfast. I found them for a quick last minute trip and everything was great! Check in was simple, the reception staff is delightful and helpful, the room was adorable, the bed was so comfy, and breakfast the next day was great on that beautiful patio. I cannot say enough good things. So happy we found this place!

My husband and I just had the most tasty meal at a restaurant in a long time. The service was great - atmosphere unbelievable (we ate outside) and a terrific menu. You have to try the burger and Caesar salad! Try it - you will love it! BTW - the prices were fair too.

This hotel is absolutely incredible. The rooms are as clean and beautiful as they look on the photos. The staff is probably the best I’ve ever experienced. Thank you to all of the staff, especially Theresa! Can’t wait to visit again!

Hospitable, clean, friendly, quaint, so great overall. Perfect location. Our first time to the island and really happy with our experience. The staff was great and really helpful. We stayed from sat-tues. Only slight issue was no front desk help on Sunday and Monday night but understandable considering days of week. Otherwise, breakfast was a nice perk and cleaning staff were great too.

Decent Japanese food, but nothing to write home about. More expensive than similar quality places in NYC. The beauty of it is that it’s on Shelter Island, which was previously a sushi dead spot. Avoid the ramen unless you like expensive small bowls.

Cozy and comfortable Inn close to the ferry and easy to access from the LIRR without a car. The rooms were minimal, clean, and comfortable. The bed was luxurious. Breakfast offered a variety of tasty options. The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Cottage at the end of September and didn't have any issues with heat.

Took advantage of the quiet offseason for a lovely surprise weekend with my girlfriend. The hotel was beautiful and perfect, definitely worth 5 stars. However, my complements must be given more to the manager, Jason! From helping me set the room up with wine to acting like our island host showing us where to go, he was a pleasure. He even upgraded our room! His caring, personal touch is what truly made our weekend special. Thank you, Jason!

Went to the little cafe on the side and was met with excellent service, coffee, and pastries. The chocolate chip cranberry scone and oatmeal blueberry coconut cookies were amazing. The barista was also the chef, and she was very kind and accommodating.

What else is there to say. Fish tacos were eh. Lobster roll was $30 and advertised as a whole 1.25lbs lobster but I doubt it. Service was friendly though. The iced tea was the highlight so you get what I mean. It is centrally located and the decor is nice, especially sitting outside.

Terrible place. Most disgusting kitchen ive ever seen. Hands down worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant. And I've been a chef in 11 states and have numerous top 100 and top 25 restaurants in me. This place is a joke. Major plumbing issues. Hoods don't work. Need to be tore down. Everything in this place a bubblegum and bandaid show!!!!!! Don't want your time money or effort. Place was so nasty it gave me a staff infection and I almost lost my eye!!!!!!!!!!! Disgusting!!!!!!!!

The Chequit is a great place to grab some food and a drink the restaurant is located on the first level below the hotel and called Maple. They have nicely updated the bar and dining areas. Sunday brunch is what i went for with some friends and we had great eggs Benedict and a Burger. The atmosphere was lively with a table playing card games.

We had the best time at the Chequit. Breakfast was incredibly awesome and delicious! Jason and all of the others were always there if you had any questions and they gave very good dinner place recommendations! The room was just perfect. We were upgraded to the suite, which was so lovely styled and decorated. It was just perfect. If there's a second trip to the "hamptons" we will sure stay at the chequit! Thank you guys!

This is the most amazing Inn I’ve ever been too. Dinner downstairs was amazing, breakfast was excellently prepared, the room was divine and the management is so kind and thoughtful. Come here to stay and you won’t be disappointed.

Food is over priced. Calamari app was tiny pieces more than likely frozen. $17 hamburger tasted like cardboard....was that meat frozen, too? We were there at 7pm on a Wednesday evening and the place was 95% empty. The hostess asked if we had reservations....really? Nobody was there?
