Despite not making reservations in July, I was seated very quickly. Next time ill make sure to make reservations so I can sit on the rooftop. The sunset was amazing that day and the view from the restaurant was perfect. Everything was so fresh, I can't stop thinking about the branzino it was so fresh and delicious. The portions are small for the hefty price they charge especially for the pasta I ordered, nonetheless, everything was really good.Food & drinks: The fries were crispy and perfect. the oysters and branzino were so fresh and delicious. margaritas were nice a strong just how I like them to be.

Based on the name, you would expect the Sunset Beach Hotel to have stunning sunsets. And, you would be correct. The sun put on an impressive display for us during dinner.Based on the hype of the restaurant, you might also expect the food to rival the sunset in quality. You would be sadly mistaken.On the positive, we did enjoy the lamb. It had good flavor and texture.The waiter spent a while telling us that the chicken would be juicy. He explained many other chefs make dry chicken, but at Sunset they have a fancy special method to keep the chicken moist. Great sell by the waiter but sadly completely untethered from reality. The best attribute to describe the chicken would be “dry”.The Tuna Tartare was small and boring.Shelter Island restaurants are all expensive. But, be prepared. The chicken was $48. The lamb was $59.

Had lunch there today and the place is pretty cool; amazing water views, great food and drinks. Our servers deserve special recognition. Jonathan R is one of the kindest, most personable servers we’ve ever had. He is really quite special. Also, Ajax, Bojana and Benji deserve recognition too. All four are amazing and Sunset Beach 🏝️ is truly fortunate to have them on their side.

What am I missing?!? I never mind spending money on a quality meal, but what I was served and what I paid was crazy. Food was slightly better than average. The $48 Veal was over cooked, the $48 poussin (fancy name for Cornish hen which I knew) was super dry and really had no taste. The service was bizarre. You never saw your waiter, getting water was like getting hand sanitizer during the outbreak of COVID and none of the staff seemed to care. I’m a pretty stubby guy but I was an amateur compared to the staff. Obnoxious, and rude. Young hostess was just a miserable, nasty person. In short, I travel, I eat in great, good and the occasional bad spots, but what I was served and ate for the ridiculous price I was charged, just doesn’t make sense. Sorry to rain in anyone’s parade but skip this place. And I doubt this post will get any reply from management. They truly don’t care! Oh and the average price for a drink (liquor) of any kind is $25. I kid you not!

Lovely location, fantastic atmosphere and possibly the worst service known to man.We waited for 2.5hrs, while asking where our food was, for the staff to admit they lost our order due to a "computer error".The children were absolutely starving.After rush ordering our meal, they still never brought an adult entree. Nor did they comp it.Over the weekend, the food wait was so awful my neighbor had to give her friend her children's left over french fries since the kitchen was so backed up and incompetent.Back to our experience, sadly one family just had to leave and management comped their full meal.They did not comp either of the other two families at all. We asked for a reduced rate as we were now 3.5hours into a dinner reservation. After some back and forth we realized they did not have our bill at all ... and so were just giving us random tables bills that were less in total dollars until we agreed.A for location and ambience. A consistent F for any kind of competent serving.Too bad.

We heard about this restaurant so decided to try it. We put our order in and waited at least 45 minutes to an hour for hamburgers! We never saw the waiter after that! We had to get our own water, meanwhile there was a table next to us that had gotten their lunch and someone filling their water constantly!!! The service was TERRIBLE!!!! We would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone!!!!

Had a reservation @ 3.30pm but hostess said kitchen closes @ 3.30pm so technically impossível to order lunch with this reservation. Arriving at 3.40 we were denied a table in an ironic way.Hostess/staff were rude to us. Unfortunately not worth it anymore, sunset beach is not the friendly/nice place it was a few years back.

Horrible. Overpriced. They never checked on us once to see if we wanted another drink or to refill our water. The linguini was barely cooked and so bland. Absolutely not worth the price. Also, lots of loud children in the dining area. I would recommend passing on this place.Management, you have a beautiful space and amazing views. So much potential. Please do something to make this place better and worth the money we spend here.

Bartender refused to serve me by saying: 'Sorry, we're closed', then proceeded to serve other customers. All because I left a smaller tip than they were used to.For me, as a customer, this is insulting. I am a foreigner, I don't know everything, but I am not used to this kind of service.I was going to sit for a couple of hours and make some more orders, maybe come back again, but after this kind of service - never again.

We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. We were not given menus and had to ask multiple times to get them and eventually stood up to get them. They were out of numerous options on the menu and when we ordered they came back 10 minutes later and said they were out of what we ordered. I asked to speak to a manager and he said this just happens and it basically is what it is. We got our appetizers but did not get our food and after asking multiple times for over an hour. Do not recommend. Not worth it at all.

gorgeous views and a fab lido, but the restaurant service is terrible. $600 dinner for four with a condescending server and only one round of drinks because after food was dropped off we never saw him again until we had to chase down the check 🤷🏻‍♀️ if they’re going to charge that much, they should really take better care of their guests. so much potential though!

Cool place but I will not go back. I wasn't a fan of the bartenders. It took forever to get a drink after constantly being skipped and not acknowledged and they were very rude (especially the female bartender). Very ironic considering the high prices of drinks and the type of service you get with it. Overall, I'm pretty sure the Hamptons has other gems that will not ruin your day.

Sunset Beach is a Shelter Island institution. Always a great time. French fries and frosé are a hit, beach scenery is lovely, and the music is top notch.

We come every year on several occasions each year. Every year you have people who show up with no reservations trying to eat at the restaurants whose cars end up getting towed because they never made a reservation and have no where to park. Those are the people too cheap to pay for a reservation online who end up not getting a table and leaving a 1 star review.Sunset beach is gorgeous. There’s no other setting in the Hamptons area like it. That’s it. Grab a reservation and enjoy the scene. Dress it up.Service and vibe is a bit euro, so don’t expect service with Midtown Manhattan rush-hour speed.

Nice wait staff, but extremely slow when bringing drinks and food [even when it's not crowded]. Food and drinks are SMALL especially for price, but taste is good. Even the entrees are like tapas sized. Check your bill for mistakes!

We had reservations for Memorial day weekend. The weather was anticipating on/off rain. They were not as busy as we were expecting. When we finally were seated the drinks we ordered took me going up to the waitress to get them because I noticed they were sitting at the end of the bar waiting to be picked up. Husband ordered a cabernet sauvignon and got a white wine even though the ticket had it for the correct one. We had never been there before but our friends had. They had to ask for bread that was supposed to be given. Husband ordered the duck which was super tiny. I asked for a spoon for my pasta dish and they gave me 4. Friend ordered the steak and it was not cooked to the temperaturehe requested. We were never visited by the waitress for a refill on drinks and she was virtually nonexistent and we had to go find her to even get the check. The food runners/bus boys seem to be the ones who noticed us. I know there are not too many places to go to on Shelter Island but I think I would do a different place next time we go.

Simply a place to be seen. Overpriced food and drinks. Food is not bad just very overpriced. Aside from the night life and people scene, there are better options out there. Good first date night if you are young and want to impress your date as the parking lot on weekend is often filled with expensive european sports and luxury cards.

5 ⭐ for Best views, great sunsets, watching sea plane take off is exciting,On the other hand I fine it (1) ⭐$23 drinks at the Bar are pricey, the bar maid Sasha's unfriendliness and lack of friendliness puts a damper on the bar experience ... The other bar tenders are nice

Stopped by the beach bar restaurant again on the boat (Sunday June 18, 2023) - always great!Terrific place for drinks in the late afternoon and watch the 'circus':)You feel you are no longer in The Americas but somewhere in the South of France. And it hits you with such a delightful vengeance, simply awesome. The gleam of the sun reflecting on the waters before you, the small pleasure boats and big yachts gently moving up and down in the waters, the shores across, the sound of the red seaplane landing and taking off at the beach, dropping off passengers and taking in new ones is something from a long gone by era. The settings of Sunset Beach Restaurant and Tree House are spectacular and that's why we keep going back. ( my favorite... the super creamy burrata blistered San Marzano's tomatoes with pistachios add great crunch and taste!) Yes…it is overpriced for this seasonal beach restaurant. We do go back many times… the boat ride over from Connecticut, the location, the beautiful white sandy beach and warm ocean water - calls us back time and time again. ⛵

If you like overpaying for stuff, this is your perfect place. If you like to be treated like you are not a billionaire coming out of your yacht, this is for you. If you enjoy feeling stupid when you ask the barman to be light on your drink, this is your home. It is not mine. Too bad the location is just amazing.

I made a reservation based on a friend’s recommendation. Restaurant is run by no one above the age of 30 except maybe the manager who is possibly 33.Atmosphere very nice, great view.Food - portions microscopic, baked clams minuscule. Tuna tartar was great. Shrimp cocktail fair. Halibut - size of two postage stamps and did not smell fresh.Asked for coffee and told the “barista had left”- it was 9:30 pm!!! The server (Stephani) has a lot of spunk! She showed up ten min later with two hot fresh cups of excellent coffee that she just made herself! I rarely see initiative like that!With so many other excellent restaurants to try on Shelter Island (18 Bay, Vine Street Cafe for example)- don’t waste your time and money here.

Extremely disappointing. No only was the price of two Bloody Mary's and a coke outrageous, but THE BAR TENDER ADDED $8 TO HIS TIP. The transaction just cleared my bank account and I was shocked. I had to call my bank and open a claim about it this morning. The bar tender did not attempt to engage us in conversation, even though we were the only ones there and I've had a better Bloody Mary at Buffalo Wild Wings. If the bar tender wasn't pretentious and the drinks were good he wouldn't of had to add a thing to his tip.

We visited the property as part of our trip out East. We arrived early for our 2:30PM reservation. We were asked to wait while they prepared our table. After almost an hour and being told that our table was almost ready we left. The help never offered to provide us with any concession for the poor service and didn’t offer to take care of the one drink we had ordered while we were waiting.Great environment. Overpriced and terrible, terrible service.
