Lets start with the positives. The Cuban sandwich is good + you will wait for it.The girl who works at the counter has a lovely personality. + The music is really good most of the time.+ Now the rest of the story.You would do better to have a salad at McDonald's. At the very least you would save $17. Their salad dressings seem flat + the guy who took my order had no idea what the options for that were... + The fried flounder on the fish tacos is lesser quality than what one would buy at a supermarket when getting fish sticks. Add to that, an interior that's nearly swarming with flies + air conditioning that rivals the 89° temperature you would endure sitting outdoors under their umbrella tables. The lemonade is mediocre,,there seems to be zero knowledge of how to brew an iced tea + no variations of iced drinks can be managed outside of what can just be poured from bottles.For what it will cost you, it makes better sense to walk down to the ferry landing + jump over to Anker in Greenport or plan all your meals when on Shelter Island at Maria's Kitchen instead. If there is absolutely NOTHING else available, then stars cafe. But its worth it to go elsewhere...

Sweet neighbourhood place. Delicious Mexican breakfast choices. I had the chilaquiles, very good, and a really tasty and generous sized iced coffee. Bought some fabulous muffins to take home afterwards, all six flavours well baked, sweet treats. Only knocking a star off for plastic cutlery, glasses etc. as I appreciate places that think about sustainability.

Great menu, but we could hardly find the turkey on the thanksgiving sandwich! Or the goat cheese on the healthy wrap. I asked to add chicken and got 3 small strips added. Too expensive for what you get!

Small business or not there are standards that all businesses should uphold.First is customer service. The cashier was not welcoming at all. No smile even when I tried to make a joke to lighten up the mood. You are the face for the business. You are the person who makes the first impression for new comers like me. Remember that.The food portions were decent for the price but the food was so bland. I’m not sure if they used salt at all.I will not be returning.

Rude The whole staff looked like they did not want me to be there and asked if I was getting my food to go . I definitely did NOT feel welcome. 2nd trip there and both times same vibe. Won’t get my money again. Soda Fountain on corner was very pleasant and knows what customer service is. Burgers not as fancy but simple is sometimes better when you feel welcome.A girl holding the broom asked “how can I help you ?” When I walked in. I was the only costumer. How is a girl holding a broom going to help me? I need one at the cash register to help me. Of course I came here to order food . What’s the girl with a broom going to do for me? Sweep me a path to the register? And whit would you ask if you could help me do that? If you want to do something for me with that broom then Show me what you can do with that broom. I have no idea what tricks you may possessThe server did bring the food out politely and I do want to say she was the only one smilingWe went to the Marie French place on the water a few days later. (It was closed when we sent to stars). The line was long and people waited for the food and service. All employees smiling and happy to be at work. Stars needs to take notes. You want customers out the door? Wear a smile. Make people like you. Monkey see monkey do. “What are those guys doing different than we are” is what you need to be asking yourself. If you cared to grow your business you would try. What i experienced was no one there cares if you turn around and walk out or if you stay and eat. And the line to the register shows that I am not the only one that feels this way.

Stopped here for a quick breakfast, but had to wait 30 minutes for just one breakfast burrito. I asked the staff twice about it and neither the cashier or woman who appeared to be a manager apologized or explained the long wait. The burrito ended up being pretty good once we got it, but the ice coffee was very bitter.

So nice to have a reliably solid place like this on the island. Lots of menu options and often very busy due to the limited options on Shelter but the staff is always friendly and working hard.

I've been coming here on and off since 2021 and I've gotta say it's legitimately the worst experience I've had at a cafe...They will literally stare at you to tip, even though they're doing nothing out of the ordinary besides prepping your meal.Plus, it's a family owned business why not just increase the prices vs. strong arming people into tipping???If you don't tip they act all passive aggressive towards you as if you committed an atrocity or a crime against humanity. You'll be perfectly polite to them and they'll shoot you dirty looks... Just because you didn't tip...Don't believe me?Just scroll down and look at all of the passive aggressive comments from them for any review that's less than 5 stars.Horrible way to treat customers! This establishment should be ashamed of themselves and how they treat POCs (people of color).

I received what I ordered, but I wouldn’t call that servicing a customer. When I asked to confirm that the bread on my sandwich was gluten-free I barely got an intelligible answer. The sandwiches were decent, but overall is overrated. We expected more and a cozier atmosphere, based on the reviews available online. Won’t go back.

Star Cafe is awesome! I live in Westchester and needed a breakfast order delivered to a group of guests renting property on Shelter Island. In the middle of their very morning, they helped me place an appropriate order to accommodate my guests and included a hand written message to them on our behalf. They were so patient and our guests enjoyed their very fresh breakfast.Excellent customer service means EVERYTHING and they definitely have that for sure. I can’t wait to stop in myself.

Great smoothies made from frozen fruits with your option of different milk for 75 cent extra unless you stick to the OJ and AJ that comes with it! We also tried their homemade muffin which was moist and delicious 😋! They make all their pastries on premise and looked amazing!! Their breakfast and lunches looked great and priced reasonable. Avoid the hyped up hotel restaurants and head here for a good meal and head to the beach hotels for drinks and the scene only! We'd definitely return here!!

Super casual breakfast and lunch spot with a great selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and some Mexican. Friendly staff and a peaceful environment. Food was better than expected and servings were well worth it. Next time I’m on the island this will definitely be one of my stops.

Really good spot. Fresh organic food. Many choices of soups and chowder. Wraps and sandwiches. I got the shrimp wrap and it was delicious, highly recccomend it. Stop in for coffee or even fresh baked goods. Summertime you can sit at the tables on the sidewalk.

Stars Cafe has a great menu and everything on it is absolutely delicious AND healthy (I should know cuz I have tried almost everything on it). The atmosphere is comfortable, charming, and very clean. The coffee is organic and tastes great. My fiance and I never miss a chance to come here every time we visit Shelter Island - for breakfast AND lunch.This place is a must if you visit the island. And if you live on Shelter and have never been here, well, get out of the cave you have been hiding in and indulge in the best breakfast burrito you will ever have tonorrow morning!

The food was great. I had a burrito and it was easily as good as any you'd find at a Tex-Mex restaurant. The cafe itself is cute and homey. I wish there were cafes like this everywhere! It was also the only affordable place to eat on the whole island. I'd definitely go back.

Came here with a group 2 days in a row. The breakfast sandwich was subpar, breakfast burrito was good and chilaquiles were out of control SO good. Mixed reviews from the group on the coffee, I really enjoyed the hibiscus lemonade

I am currently eating a dry loaf of bread with a couple of pieces of chicken on it, when I ordered a buffalo chicken WRAP. I waited for over an hour to get my food. The staff was unapologetic and one employee laughed in my face as he handed me the wrong sandwich. Would not recommend.

On such a small island with limited breakfast options you would think this place would try a little harder!! Where should I begin...there are 4-5 outdoor tables, 2 of which are located adjacent to a yellow jacket nest with bees swarming all over the guests trying to eat. I asked if the blueberry pancakes were made with fresh blueberries and the reply was yes. Pancakes arrived with a huge scoop of blueberry compote from a can. I guess thats their idea of fresh?... Just an overall bad experience and will not return.

I stopped in there today and happened to speak with one of the ladies there about my experience trying to make tiramisu she seem to know a lot about it they had some in the case I asked her if it was authentic she said yes , I told her I started making my own because it is so expensive she said it was the end of the day and she would give me what was left of the cake for $10 when I got home I was so disappointed to find out that it was dry nasty cake that was not even made with egg cream totally not authentic whatsoever never going back there , tasted like a sponge with some kind of disgusting icing on top
