I had an interview in Cobleskill. I had the great fortune of staying in the American. I got in late, after normal check-in, and got a fantastic email taking me through the steps of how to get access and then on to my room.To say I was blown away is an understatement. The decor and overall vibe of the place is amazing. It’s history, culture, and spirit all rolled into different rooms with different personalities. The building is, well, alive with all of the history and fun things you see on the walls and generally decorating the place. Same goes for outside. It’s just so welcoming. That was only surpassed by Garth and Doug. What kind, kind men and what lovely humans. You get a clear sense that the openness and warmth of the hotel is a direct result and reflection of them. It’s not often you want to get to know your hotel hosts better, but they create the space where this kind of thing is possible.Being on an interview is stressful and one needs all the help to be calm. The American, Doug and Garth, gave me the opportunity to gather myself, relax and be my best.Do yourself a favor. Go see this treasure.

We had such a nice stay for the long weekend. Our room was a little small, but it was clean and perfectly kept each day. Breakfast was wonderful, and worth the trip just for that! We sat on the front porch at night, sipped wine and watched the world go by. Was quiet, relaxed, and very nice. Enjoyed our chats with owner Doug as well! Can't wait to go back!

The service was excellent. I had the trio sampler plate...the deep fried cheese was perfect...the shrimp cocktail was okay except the cocktail sauce was watery and no flavor and the crab cake was not hot. My husband had the pork dinner...large portion, tender which is great...the food seemed reheated and not hot the mushroom gravy was delightful. My roasted beet salad was perfect.

I didn't lodge here this review is for the restaurant.Quaint, cozy dining experience in a historic atmosphere. Inn/restaurant embraces the history of Sharon Springs. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beautiful decor. Ordered a burger, was the best burger I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, juicy, large, and tasty. Thanks guys, keep up the great work.

First time to the area and restaurant. The menu had a list of delicious sounding meals, and wanted to try them all. One of the advantages of being one of the first customers, the coffee was fresh and not bitter. Servers were friendly and loved our waiter. Would definitely come back!

Great entrees! The Smoked Eggplant Jambalaya Stuffed Pepper and Beef Tenderloin Tips with bleu cheese, bacon & pears were both something I would order again. Service was okay. Would not order the tortilla soup again at all and was surprised with the small portion size of the salad. Would have thought it were a side salad, but now I know. All and all I would try this place again, like I said, great entrees!

I stayed with my parents and our dog for one night at the American Hotel. The room was fabulous, cozy and comfortable, although the bathtub drain plug did not work properly thus requiring a cup to keep the water in for a bath. The food was mostly delicious, although my father was not so impressed with the crabcakes, everything else was amazing. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive to our needs. If you need a pet friendly hotel in the area, this is your place. I would love to come back.

Doug and Garth have a great little restaurant in my former hometown. George the bartender is one of the best people you could possibly meet anywhere. Very well prepared and served up in a beautiful dining room.

Have stayed at the American several times in the last several years. Never disappointed. Garth and Doug (or Doug and Garth), the proprietors are delightful. This quaint little town in upstate is off the beaten path, but beat a path there, if you can. Great food in the dining room (not inexpensive, nor should it be given it's excellence). Nice breakfast service for Hotel guests. Rooms are smallish, but comfortable, clean and historic. George, the bartender, is an entertainer. This is a perfect place for Glimmerglass Opera goers, autumn leave viewers and anyone who loves upstate. The best!

My family has shared a number of wonderful meals in this lovely inn/restaurant. The owners and staff greet you warmly, the aroma of sumptuous foods beckons you into the dining room, and the meals are absolutely delicious. Everything is prepared beautifully, right down to the fun sense of decor that blends the old and the new.If you are looking for a place to go for a special evening that is also relaxed and fun, this is the place for you. We recommended it to our parents from the Hudson area and this is now one of their favorite getaways for an overnight stay as well.

Had a great lunch here, sitting in the garden on a warm late fall day. It's a tranquil environment with excellent food and service. There is a full bar and hotel rooms upstairs. It was so nice I may go back this winter and do some cross country skiing nearby, then spend the night.

My girlfriend and I were in town and stopped by for breakfast. This was our first time there and we were very pleased with the place and food. After having breakfast here, it put us in a great mood to continue walking the small town. Would definitely recommend and come back.

From the moment you are greeted at the door and until you leave to get your car, you are made to feel special throughout. The staff and the service they provide is second to none! They use high-quality ingedients for their dishes that are flawless and my mouth is watering just remembering my meal!!! This is a little gem tucked away in the quaint village of Sharing Springs. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Great atmosphere, delicious and impeccably prepared for and excellent service! I enjoyed my experience there this past weekend and I was even pleasantly surprised that the owners were actually working the front desk. The restaurant staff was very friendly and the food was mouth-watering. Kudos to the chef!

The fish and chips were a great choice. Also tried a weekly special of filet medallions, shrimp, rice, & veg. It had a great flavor although I felt that the steak was closer to NY strip. I’ve had the filet mignon there in the past and it was awesome. The special wasn’t the same. Also, beware any sampler appetizer special is $33. Not a fan of the mixed drinks here either. All and all I would try it again, but next time I’ll just skip an appetizer, stick to the normal dinner menu, and order wine instead of a cocktail.

I am an avid foodie from New York. I have dined in Manhattan's and Long Island's finest restaurants. None of them can hold a candle to this establishment. On top of being one of the best places that I've ever dined, the staff was outstanding and so pleasant. Bravo gentleman. (That's a picture of bacon-wrapped center-cut sirloin) unbelievable.

Great B&B with an amazing restaurant. I highly recommend. Everything was perfect, especially the staff and owners. They took such great care of me. It was such a nice break from the chain hotels. The rooms are a bit dated but they fit the theme of the hotel and town. I hope I end up there again.
