We’ve been bringing our Mini Schnauzer to the Social Hound since she received all of her shots and we couldn’t be happier with the team and service there. The people who work here are all incredible and treat our pup like she’s one of their own and it shows with how obsessed she is with each and everyone there. Marisol is an exceptional groomer and even though our Paisley has a bit of sass she gets the job done perfectly.

We have used Social Hound for boarding and day care for the last 5+ years. Always happy with the care they’ve provided our dog and trust them to take care of her while we’re away. Very friendly staff and great communication if there’s ever an issue.

The best experience i have had boarding a pet. The workers are incredibly kind and little Otis couldn’t wait to go back to see them again after his first visit! I couldn’t recommend the social hound more!

My lhasa apso loves going here every week. Sometimes she would even jump out of the car to run up to the door. She also gets her grooming done here and even stays overnight when we can't bring her with us on our weekend getaways.

We LOVE The Social Hound! The staff is so attentive and caring to the puppies and their owners. Our puppy is always so excited to go to daycare! Marisol give the BEST grooms, too!

Our black lab mix, Brisket, loves his visits to the Social Hound. When we pull up to the building he jumps out and can't wait to join the other dogs. The convenience of having the groomer on site is great. I am happy to have a safe place to send my pup when needed - the socialization is imperative to his growth and well being!

This is my first experience leaving my 100 lb hound mix with anyone that wasn't family, and the decision of where to leave him was difficult. I depended on the opinion of his veterinarian and other dog sitters, and learned that Social Hound is under new ownership by a trusted dog lover. He's almost 10 years old, is very, very strong, and has issues from being in a shelter for 2 years before we adopted him. Being confined in any way pretty much freaks him out, but especially if there are bars and a small visual area. I found the owner and staff to be very understanding and willing to try whatever worked best for him. When I picked him up, I have to say that while he was really happy to see me, he was also very happy to give some puppy love to the owner and one of the employees in the waiting room as well. To me, that spoke volumes. Also, I paid to have him bathed before we picked him up, and whoever groomed him did an amazing job. The only negative thing I have to say is that there is a strong smell of urine when you walk in, but I am confident that the new owner will work that out. At the end of the day, the most important thing to me is that I picked up a happy guy!

My dog spent one, 6 hour day at the Social Hound and was violently ill the next day. My dog has never been sick in his life and after spending one day in this facility I racked up a $700 animal hospital bill.Upon entering this facility, the smell is rancid and overwhelming. Of course, it's a day care filled with dogs so I knew it would be odorous, but to this extreme was beyond what I imagined. I was not allowed in the back area to view where my dog would be staying for the day due to "upsetting" the other dogs by having a new face present, so I viewed on a small screen where my dog was brought. The camera only allowed me to see him on a small screen therefore I wasn't able to see the conditions he would be in. When I went back to pick him up later that day, he was covered in urine, filthy and the smell of him was nauseating. I immediately brought him home to bathe him we the smell was horrid. When he woke up the next morning, he wasn't himself and didn't eat. My dog ALWAYS inhales his food so I knew something wasn't right. Unfortunately, due to personal pressing issues that needed my immediate attention, I had to bring him back for a few hours. Against my intuition, he returned. When we walked in, he freaked out and did not want to go in the back area. I was then able to help bring him back there when I noticed how filthy the back play area was. It was hot and beyond malodorous. I had to leave him due to the important meeting I was late for and I cried the whole way there knowing how poor the conditions were. I picked him up a couple of hours later in the same dirty, smelly condition, except this time he was vomiting. The employee there said he vomited 3 times while he was there. I never received a call. I brought my dog home and he proceeded to vomit for hours all over my house as well as having diarrhea. My dog was lethargic, shaking and violently ill. I brought him to the vet and he caught a virus from the unsanitary conditions of that facility. I racked up a $700 vet bill along with my dog being very sick. He needed IV fluids since he was severely dehydrated and is now on antibiotics. My dog will NEVER return to that facility again. They allow the dogs to urinate and defecate in the same area in which they play all day and also lay down. The same area in which they drink as well. The dogs don't go outside to excrete their waste therefore the employees hose down the indoor areas.I would not recommend this unsanitary facility to anyone. Take it from me whose staring at her poor dog right now is misery.

I have been bring Beau to social hound for playtime, boarding , and grooming. Only complaint is once I get out of the car , Beau literally drags me to the door to get in! He’s a very smart google doodle . He comes home happy and that’s understandable since I see him playing on the pictures posted through out the day. The staff is toally amazing , and so caring and the facility wonderful and Beau is a complete “social hound” fan as am I! Groomer is an artist and when I post pictures of Beau groomed I get so many likes I stop counting. If you love your dog I can say without reservation so does everyone at social hound and I recommend any and all services.

Social Hound is the equivalent of Disney for my pups! They absolutely love being there either for a play day or overnight stay. The staff is always happy to see my boys and is genuinely eager to take very good care of them. Highly recommend!

We board our Boston Terrier every time we come home back to Setauket. The staff is wonderful and the facility is beautiful and kept clean. My favorite thing is seeing all the pictures of my dog playing and making friends on Facebook at the end of the night. I also love that Marisol the groomer was able to give her a groom before pickup.

Terrible place!! The staff seems to not care what happens to the dogs. My 7 month old puppy went there for the first time and was beaten up by two pugs and the staff did nothing about it. In fact they told me everything was great! When I asked to see her. You could clearly see she was in distress. I took her out right away!!! She was shaking it was so bad!! Great way to teach a puppy to hate dogs the rest of her life!!! Not okay!!

I'm a local dog walker and one of my clients was almost killed here in a dog attack! He is a very small dog and The Social hound put him in with the large dogs and one picked him up by the neck the thru him against a wall. The teeth were only an inch away from a main artery. A local vet was kind enough to rush him to the emergency vet in his own car. They didn't know if he would live, His life was saved but his recovery was long. Stay far away from The Social Hound they and their owner allyson are highly irresponsible and clearly not paying enough attention to the dogs.

DOG ALMOST HIT BY CAR!!! D NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE CARE OF THESE PEOPLE. I just drove past this business (3:15 in the afternoon) and witnessed a black dog RUN OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND MISSED GETTING HIT BY A CAR BY A HAIR. I was in the car directly behind the car that almost hit the dog. It was absolutely traumatizing. The dog was standing n the middle of the road looking to sprint again into oncoming traffic. Scared for the dogs life I stopped my car and called to the dog to come to me and it did. A decent amount of time passed before 2 very young/teenagers came out of the facility finally and called to the dog. Luckily the dog ran over to them. They both look dumbfounded (and not necessarily as panicked as you'd think they would be/should be when one of the dogs that is in your care runs out of the building) and brought the dog back into the facility. If you love and care for your animal please do not leave them here, I am still in shock from what i witnessed and will tell everyone I know what i saw.

Take all of this coming from a former employee of The Social Hound in East Setauket. This place may seem great and as if they truly love the dogs, but it couldn't be further from.I didn't last very long and had to quit because of how bad it was.No, they don't hurt the dogs in anyway. They just don't watch them. A bunch of teenagers sit in the back with their eyes glued to their phones. Not a single one of them goes into the pens with the dogs unless there is poop to clean up. If a dog barks for any reason, they lift their head and shout "shut up!" or "hey!" to get the dog to stop barking. If a dog is being too rambunctious or loud, and the kid doesn't want to continue shouting at the dog, they'll remove him and lock him in a "time out" pen. I've witnessed days where the second one particular dog comes in, it gets locked up in a "time out pen" or a suit and left there all day until it's time for it to go home.On top of them not watching any of the dogs, they don't know much about canine boy language and assume anything that isn't a wagging tail or a lolling tongue is aggression, so they separate the dog instantly.- A Former Employee

I have a young chocolate lab who needs buddies to play with. I used to take him to the dog parks but he would get giardia from shared water bowls, toys, and poop. The Social Hound gives him a safe and fun place to play with other dogs without the downside.

We brought our dogs here for an overnight stay while we were traveling. The staff was friendly, accommadating, and professional, and the facilities were clean and new. Both of our dogs were happy and looked great from their grooming when we picked them up.

First time going. I was referred to the boarders by a friend and I know they help out local animal rescue group. So far I like it. They appear to have caring staff, loyal customers, and a clean facility.

The only way to explain it is that my dog is smiling and excited when we get there and very tired when we go home . Which means she had a great time.

Best around the North shore, but you'll still need to bathe your dog after a full day there.
