We had a large group and so we made reservations several days in advance. I understand that for a group of 20, expectations should be different. However that is why we called in advance and also promised to pay all in one bill, not separate. Despite our efforts, we had the slowest service ever. There was one waitress serving the entire restaurant, and it was her 4th day on the job. They excused the slow service with staffing issues, but that shouldn’t be my problem. The food was actually very good, although overpriced. We spent $1000 in one bill but it took us 3 hours to be served. It was exhausting. Not recommended for large groups.

Attended a celebration here and everything about this place was top notch friendly service, atmosphere, and food. Melissa and Gabby served the table and helped us organize the guest. Gabby helped us decorate with a smile ! The food was delicious and I mean every dish came out perfect. They even had a band and the singers voice was spot on. They made a an out of this world carrot cake too! Do not let the rustic Adirondack outside fool you! This place is a gem! The also have some quality craft beer at the bar !

Rustic restaurant. Made reservations. Ordered fried haddock with loaded potatoes and salad; broiled shrimp platter with potato and green beans, lobster bisque and whiskey sour. Bisque was ok. Only 2 small chunks of lobster. Shrimp was good, 8 out of 10. Haddock was good, potato was obviously under the heat lamp for a while. Salad was a salad. Best thing of the meal was the whiskey sour. Servers were working tirelessly but service was a bit slow. Overall an ok dinner. Not worth the cost. Probably will not be back.

Update: been here numerous times since the first review and have taken folks along with us and everyone agrees that the food and service is top notch! Seriously have never had a bad experience here. Latest photo is the prime rib special. Amazing!One great meal could be a fluke. Two… ok maybe they are that good. Three, wow ok this place is really good. Four… discussion over. Trail Break is the real deal. They never disappoint, they clearly care about the quality of the food and it shows. I ordered the Bang Bang shrimp appetizer and it was better than I expected. Super friendly staff and a great bar as well! Throw in one of the best beer and whiskey selections you’ll find anywhere near here and you have yourself a gem!

I think this is my new favorite restaurant when I visit my grandparents in the Adirondacks!The vegan menu was extensive and delicious! I got the tofu piccata which was delicious. The quinoa was tasty and I also tried the sweet potato fries.Everything was a hit, there wasn't anything I wouldn't order again.My sister got the chickpea curry and I tasted it as well. It had a lot of flavor and looked really filling.The owner said they are really careful about cross contamination and use peanut oil in their fryer. They are willing to accommodate for any dietary or food allergy needs.Great food and service. Thanks for taking care of us!

This is a mixed review. It was chaotic from the start. The staff were new and pleasant, but clearly were not able to answer questions without consulting someone in the kitchen . Ordered drinks did not have the right ingredients. Moscow Mules were not like any we’ve had before and I can’t recommend them. Nor, did they have a couple common Scotch brands. Appetizers were Bang bang shrimp, overcooked and fishy with an over abundance of sauce. Calamari was very good. Light , crispy and tender. Dinners were ordered and the 2 Haddock came out first and were cold. The baked potatoes were hard and not fully cooked. The Prime strip steak was tasty but underdone. Took another 7 minutes to arrive. They had no mashed potatoes , nor fettuccine as advertised on the menu as sides.' The Marsala was made with chunks of Chicken breast, not filets as normal and the sauce was burned. Furthermore it took an additional 30 minutes after the fish arrived at the table.In their defense we were told the Chef was on vacation. So, ultimately the fish was removed from the bill by the Owner and 2 glasses of wine offered on the house. This was fair. Overall, a thanks, but no thanks rating.

We love the food at Trail Break! This is the place to go for upscale quality food at fairly reasonable prices. The duck is fantastic, crispy, and flavorful, with a not too sweet orange sauce. The Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is huge, delicious, and always spot on. I've also enjoyed the curry vegetable entrée. It's a bit spicy in a well-balanced way. The bar has a really good selection, too. The owner is friendly and helpful.

What an amazing experience. Barry and Teal have really transformed what was once a poorly run establishment into one heck of an eatery! The menu has something for everyone, from picky eaters to those who love to experience something new as well as those tried and true classics that you just can’t get enough of. The sweet butter for the bread, the side salad with peppadew I believe they were. The warm bacon dressing!!! Just to start off with... throw in some of the bangBang shrimp sprinkled with goat cheese and it’s getting serious. On the the entrees... filet Oscar for myself one night, the blackened catfish another time. The missus and her shrimp scampi both nights... topped off with her chocolate martini and the bread pudding for me. It was so good we came back up a couple weeks later.

Food was delicious, atmosphere inside was nice. Outside appeared “deserted” upon arrival.Service was very very slow. Especially for menu pricing and the restaurant not being busy upon arrival (only one other table).Up charged for soup that was supposed to come with the meal. Asked waitress what the “soup of the day” was that was supposed to come with the meal Alfredo, she told me they only had French onion available at the time I placed my order, So I agreed to have that. Placed order at about 3:30, was told only upon receiving my bill and seeing the $4 up charge that they started having a second soup available at 4:30 pm, so I get the up charge because I’m paying my bill after 4:30 pm?There was live music, that was nice!

The reason for the two stars is because of the kitchen. Our waitress was exceptional ... in fact, if she had not told us she was new we would have thought she had been a waitress for years. The bang bang shrimp and the pretzel rolls were delicious. However, the fried calamari was more bread than meat, it was very thin and not cooked well. I had the filet mignon which I ordered medium rare and it came out very rare. They did take it back to cook it more but it still came back rare but this time the outside was almost burnt. The meat itself was tender and did have a good flavor. Another person in our party also had to send back their steak as it was undercooked. The biggest problem was the wait for our food. We arrived at 6pm and our dinner was not served until about 730pm. A few of the serving staff kept apologizing and one even informed us of the difficulties they have been having with the kitchen staff. I feel that many of the items on the menu do not fit the skill levels of the chefs. Overall, the amount of money spent on our meal was not equivalent to our experience. To end on a positive note ... the mixed drink I had (Madori Sour) was one of the best I have ever had. I would recommend the bar and some of the appetizers but would caution people on eating there for dinner.

Horrible experience! Ordered a baked potatoe with cheese, cheese had mold all over it. Took over an hour for food to come out. Grilled cheese didn’t have melted cheese on it. We were charged items that we did not order- when asked to correct the bill the manager on was rude and downright disrespectful. The entire atmosphere was NOT good. Save your money and go elsewhere. They should be out of business or the health department should close them down.

Wife and I were out for a ride and noticed the “ Old Drakes Resturant” in Schroon Lake has reopened under new Name. We decided to give it a try. It was only around 3 o’clock when when we stopped. We were greeted by a very fellow whose name was Don I believe. We sat out on the closed in porch area which was all glasses in with some with screens that allowed a nice breeze. We were given a menu which had a wide selection of lunch items. Don seemed to be able to read our minds that we were looking for something more along the main dinner line. He offered to check to see if their prime rib dinner special could be prepared early if we would like that. 👍👍. He came back and said it can be done. Excellent!! One of Best Prime Rib dinners we have enjoyed. Don was extremely attentive to our needs. The vegetable medley that was served along with the dinner was so good I told him I could eat a bowl of the medley. He offered to bring me one. I almost took him up on his offer but declined. There was a full bar and many draft beers to choose from. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal as well as the accommodations and plan on a return trip.

As a previous restaurant owner we no sometimes nothing goes right. But we set close to 40 minutes before our waitress showed up. The couple we were with asked several times for bread, we finally the bread and the water. Our orders were not completely right but that was taken care of with the exception of my sweet potato which had to be taken from the refrigerator so didn’t eat that brought home to put in microwave. The noise level is probably part of the waitress issue on getting some things wrong so difficult to here or have conversation nothing to deaden all the wood. It appeared to me that there is a lack of training very disappointed.
