The adoption process was very easy. I was accommodated to meet my puppy and given great advice and input on the crating issue. My puppy is a different breed than I anticipated and was Advertised but she is a rescue so they didn’t know what she was. I thought I was getting a chihuahua dachshund mix but she is actually a minpin which is much more active than expected. I was looking for a smaller calmer dog.But we love her and she’s learning so much already in two months.

We had a wonderful experience with homeward bound. We applied online and when we saw a litter of puppies we reached out. We connected with a foster mom Sarah who spent extra time to make sure it was a good match. She even brought Alfie to our home for the meet and greet. She had lots of good advice for us since we had several dogs but never a puppy this young. Even after we adopted Alfie, Sarah checked in and offered lots of support. We have connected with other adopted homeward bound puppies and it’s been a wonderful community. Would highly recommend this organization. They truly care about finding the right home for each rescue pup.

Everyone that we connected with there had the dogs as their #1 priority but were still very compassionate about the humans trying to adopt as well. We were pleasantly surprised with our experience with Homeward Bound. We filled out the application and waited for a call. We were approved very quickly and Luigi’s foster mom schedule a phone interview almost right away. A few days later we had our home visit and we were in love with him. Once she knew he would be loved, happy and healthy foster mom Jean left this little 5lb puppy with us. Mahi is our other rescue and they are now best buds. Thank you for trusting us with Luigi he’s amazing.

Thank you for the care you give to the rescues..They are in good hands..we had an awesome experience adopting Gracie(Olivia)..We think the adoption fees were reasonable for all that was done for our pup prior to adopting her..Her foster mom Sarah was great..Kudos to her for fostering for over 20 years..If it weren't for you all these pups would never get a chance at a forever home. Can’t say enough about this rescue! From reaching out to me in such a short time after I filled out the inquiry form. To being honest with the bios about any issues the dogs have and a nice background about the dogs.The foster mom texted then called me and we had a long and informative talk regarding our Gracie. She drove to our home with Gracie to do a meet and greet with our pup Max and my husband and I. She stayed for quite awhile as we talked and interacted with our girl to be. She had taken a stray, scarred dog and showed her love and compassion. Potty trained and just absolutely set her up to succeed in a forever home!We could not be happier with our new little girl and are so grateful that we were given the privilege of adopting her!Absolutely would recommend Homeward Bound. An amazing rescue! We adopted our puppy at 7 months and everyone was so great from the interview process to meeting her! Her foster parents were amazing and answered all our questions we had as well as everyone at the company and she came to us happy and healthy with all of her shots, microchip and fixed! She is the perfect addition to our family and we would recommend homeward bound to anyone looking to rescue!

Once our application was completed, the process went quickly. We spoke with Heidi’s foster mom, Jean at length and then had a meet and greet. Jean provided us information about Heidi and at the same time making sure that we would be a good fit. Heidi is very loved and doing wonderful in our home. We appreciate all the work and care that Homeward Bound give the dogs.

I adopted a sweet puppy in February. All staff were very friendly and helpful. I sensed they truly care about the dogs/puppies that they rescue. They follow up after adoption and offer assistance, if needed. My daughter previously adopted through Homeward Bound, and also had a very good experience.

We adopted from Homeward Bound on October 22, 2023, and were very happy with the experience. Out puppy has settled in great and is doing fine. We first saw her photo on the site, and went through the process of a phone interview and background check, then visited her at her foster home. The foster parents were great - obviously loved her a good deal, and worked with her to teach her some basic commands. Although we could see it was hard for them to give her up, they couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. Our puppy is healthy and happy - our vet was impressed that all needed health care had already been provided.

My husband and I fell in love with a photo of a puppy being fostered through Homeward Bound Dog Rescue. We found the image on a Wednesday and by Sunday we were going to pick her up. We dealt with a few different people through the adoption process, everyone was professional, quick to respond and easy to work with. Along with that, the foster family felt like a surrogate family, they were kind, loving and could tell they took their role seriously. I cannot recommend this rescue group enough. I rescued my dog from this shelter and they were great. They conducted interviews to make sure the dogs were going to good homes and then arranged a visit. They made the adoption process extremely easy as well as comforting. They offered additions trainings, pamphlets, and vet records, etc that came with the puppy. We are so happy we looked at this shelter for our fur baby.

We had a wonderful experience adopting our beloved Viggo (fka Toto) from Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of NY. They spent a lot of time talking with us and helping us figure out the perfect dog for our home and lifestyle. When we found Viggo the process was quick but thorough and they are available to help us through any challenges (we haven't really had any, since he is just the best dog ever!). Their adoption fees are also very reasonable--honestly I don't know how they do it. I highly recommend this rescue.

Got our pup through here and had a great experience. The volunteers are all wonderful and so committed. They’re very open and transparent to make sure you get the best fit for your family. It’s not a shelter. It’s a network of foster homes, which I think is much better for the dogs. They were very organized and super quick to communicate. Thank you Homeward Bound!!

Homeward Bound and their volunteers made it very simple to adopt our newest family member, Forrest. We were undergoing some kitchen renovations, but found a great match in Forrest. Homeward Bound gave us the freedom to work with the fosters to complete our project, but still get our new best friend in a timeframe that was best for both him and us.

I had a terrible experience with HBDNY. I was approved for adoption and met the dog, a young Whippet I wanted first thing on the day of the adoption fair. The foster asked me to meet in the afternoon on Easter to which I agreed and shuffled around all of my family's plans. My children lost the opportunity to spend Easter with their grandparents and I spent all day prepping and shopping for his arrival.She much later said she made plans to meet another family but would let me know if it didn't work out (too late to change our plans). Then she decided that I was too "active" for him (I walk 2 miles a day) and oddly required me to install a fence BEFORE she'd schedule a home visit, which is not a requirement of the organization for adoption.This foster has ELEVEN dogs in her home, is in her 70s and at least 50# overweight so of course 2 miles seems like a lot. I asked Tamara for help, forwarding the email chain. She responded that she wasn't going to read our email conversation and that whatever this dog hoarder thought was best, was final.Stay away and find an organization that has the best interest of the animals in mind. And treat the adopters with respect.

We recently adopted a dog through Homeward Bound and couldn't be happier with the experience. We were able to meet a variety of dogs at an adoption event and then set up a home visit so the dog we were interested in could meet our current dog. The foster followed up after adoption to make sure everything was going well and to offer advice if needed and the rescue was very helpful in getting needed paperwork that was initially missing. Cooper has settled in and is doing great.
