Went to Coakley's to get vinyl plank flooring installed after another flooring company in Lake Placid lied and mislead me about when they could get the product and when they could do the install. I am so glad that I found Coakley's! They were very straightforward about when the flooring would arrive and when they could do the install. And the product they recommended and the install are great! The did the install in 3 days (the other place in Lake Placid said it would take 5 days) and the installer was very professional and a very hard worker. We will definitely be going to Coakley's again.

Strongly advise shoppers to make arrangements to shop elsewhere. Whenever there is a problem with a product it is clear that Bill Coakley and his higher ranked "yes men"have no intention of standing behind their products. For the few good employees that do try to be helpful...I am sorry and you have my sympathy. I've witnessed the head of the flooring department refuse to take care of a customer because the home owners house wasn't up to her standards or good enough for her delicate nature. The lack of professionalism was beyond belief. When they decide to take on a job they are incapable of retaining any installers due to the way they blame everything including defective products on installers error.I am a 30+ year veteran of flooring in the north country. Maintain a 100% customer satisfaction rating and assure you that I can not and will not endorse any company that claims to be a family oriented business but only cares about themselves. I also don't agree with the way the installers are required to pay all of the taxes in spite of them adding an extra 40%to the installers rates for themselves.In closing, if you are good with Russian roulette on product quality and don't mind giving them a 40% charge above quoted cost while knowing that they are not entitled to it and refuse to pay taxes on it...I guess this could be the place for you. Personally I don't agree with greedy dishonesty and paying top dollar for bargain basement materials that won't be warrantied. Lowes will not only beat their prices by leaps and bounds, they will also warranty their products and provide quality installers that will provide a professional experience for the customer.

Coakley has some of the most friendly and helpful staff around. Hardware store employees must get the weirdest questions on a regular basis, including from people like me. They've always taken the time to help answer questions and find products, and if they don't have something in stock, they can special order it efficiently and easily. Shop local!

Small home & hardware store with a very good selection, generally and for its size. Extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating staff. Never had any issues with returns on power tools or other high dollar items that had manufacturing defects or had to be returned for any other reason. Conveniently located, this was my go-to place for just about everything from small amounts of garage chemicals to blue jeans for as long as I lived in SL.

This is a wonderful store. They pretty much have it all, and at fair prices too.Saranac lake is blessed with two friendly rival hardware stores, both with wide selection and superb paint departments.But these guys, well, just go and see.

Been shopping here for 30 years, but only in the summer. Seems like when they quit Ace they lost something else. They don't stock items I used to buy, the selection of items is smaller -- seems like the store is slowly shrinking away. I was in there today and they did not have a chain saw blade I was looking for, and the place where the blades are kept only had a couple of the slots stocked. No one greeted me when I came in, like they always used to, and I had to hunt for someone to help me but they were totally not helpful. Got someone else who was even less helpful. Very sad to see the decline of this once great store. This is not a review from a single visit I have been by 3-4 times in the last few weeks.

Strengths are its home repair and improvement offerings and its hardware and tool sections. The home improvement section is particularly emphasized. Comparatively less emphasis is on lawn and garden supplies and equipment, although it does offer basics in this area. Staff are courteous, helpful and knowledgeable.

I disagree with the 4.6 star rating I saw had been given Coakley's because I have been a regular customer for many years and have never had less than 5 star service. I have never entered the store without having a staff person ask whether I could use help finding something and it's never felt like anything more than a simple desire to help;always the opposite of the car salesman's,"May I help you?"Inventory is impressively broad, especially in an area where it is commonplace for a drive of 60 to 140 miles is necessary to findroutine hardware or houseware items. And every staff member knows exactly where to find anything.At the risk of slighting all the other excellent departments, and just as an example, the paint department stands alone for it's professionalism in the Adirondacks.Coakley's is not a 4.6 star business.

This place has most everything you need, at a fairly decent price. I'd say better price than most hardware stores in town and the surrounding area. Nice staff, on occasion there is some confusion but they always make it right
