Imagine it’s 4.5 starts and not 4. My experience with modern aquarium was overall very good. The package I ordered was on of the plant packs which is a very good deal. However the shipment was delayed and arrived a day late despite 2-day shipping. Many of the plants arrived with dead or melted leaves and many of them died off in my tank. Some of them even arrived dead. After messaging modern aquarium and requesting the dead plant to be resent i received a response about a week and a half later. However instead of just resending the dead plants they reshipped the entire order! Not only was an able to replace the dead plants in my large tank I was also able to rescape my small tank with some of the extras. No complaints here, my tanks look amazing due to these guys!

I ordered a BUNCH of plants from Modern Aquarium with my first time using them and I was so satisfied! Although there were a couple minute issues (as to be expected shipping live plants and snails), they very quickly responded to my emails and refunded me the full amount for those products. The rest of the order was so great that I re-ordered the other ones because they are a great company. I will definitely recommend them to others and will be using them in the future.

I have bought tons of plants for my tanks and have been disappointed..but I took a chance and ordered from modern aquarium...and I was totally in awe when I received my plants they were vibrant and healthy and actually are growing which I never experienced before..when I buy plants else where they die or they fall apart..I will definitely be ordering more...they don't give you sprigs of plants you get nice bushy healthy plants...and I thank you guys for standing behind your word...my tanks are healthier and clearer..

I’ve gotten plants and snails from these guys ,I have absolutely no complaints. The plants are growing great. I’ve already taken cuttings from them and started more. And the snails arrived alive and healthy. I have no problem ordering from these guys.The first three pictures are from just a couple days ago. The fourth picture is just after I planted. As you can see I have no complaints

I ordered 3 Vallisneria from Modern Aquarium. What they sent me were extremely unhealthy with algae on them. I contacted them assuming they would replace them. However, they would not, even when I sent them photos.UPDATE: I received an email from the company apologizing for their unsatisfactory customer service. Perhaps it was someone new who took care of me as I ever had a problem with the company before. Mistakes can be made and I commend them for wanting to make it right.

Ok, so I was skeptical but bought two underwater dwarf lilies. They came very well packaged, great health and condition. The price was great too. I must say, I think they are more like Jack and The Beanstalk plants because these things are flourishing. They have grown so much in just a couple of weeks it’s nuts. I will definitely order more from Modern Aquarium.

Outstanding customer service and products. I ordered live plants and 15#s of aquarium rocks, and the plants arrived and were amazingly healthy and big, and loved them. The rocks got stuck in NY with USPS and never arrived but Modern Aquarium took care of the problem without hassle and sent me another order. They are great to work with and have me as a customer!

I love this company! I was a little hesitant ordering online , with concerns about fish , snails, and plants surviving shipping. But communication was so good , and all my questions and concerns answered , I thought I would give this a try. Pet shops are so limited , with fish,snails and plants , looking unhealthy. The only problem I have had, is Fed Ex throwing my orders over my fence instead of handing them to me. Irritating. But I reported this to Modern Aquarium, and the seller was quick to refund me for 1 fish who didn't survive that. My snails are so much prettier than my photos show, and I now have baby snails! My little cat fish are so cute and happy. My plants are gorgeous. I also ordered beautiful drift wood. I definitely recommend Modern Aquarium, and I will continue to order from them🙂.

The driftwood we got was amazing!!! The reason I'm leaving a 2-star review is because they sent me mostly dead plants with their 16 plant package. The duckweed and bulbs made it. They offered me a 10% off coupon for my next purchase instead of making it right with just sending live replacement plants.I should have read the reviews of others before ordering their plants.....

Total scam. They charged me 100.00 for a 24 plant package and I received variation of yellowing rotted grass in different lengths. Petco has better quality and more interesting plants than these guys are going to send you. So disappointed!Update:When I received the plants from Modern Aquarium and before I had left this review, I had actually emailed the company and let them know how disappointed I was with what I had received. No one ever got back to me to answer my complain or to offer a refund. After I left this review though, someone named Eric from Modern Aquarium emailed me and offered a refund if I remove my review of them!I must add that after the experience with this company, I purchased plants from a few other online stores and the quality of what I received puts Modern Aquarium, their product and their service to shame. My conclusion is that they are scammers, and with their plant packages, they pray on new hobbyist like me.If you are new, do your research, buy from a trusted company and buy small. Otherwise someone like these guys will take your money and sends you junk!

I have purchased from many dealers, both private and commercial, for over thirty years. That being said....the folks at Modern Aquarium are leaps and bounds ahead of 95% of them all. Still they're ahead of EVERONE else in every category of service, supply, fairness in their transactions with customers, and response time.My order was filled rapidly, well packaged, and received before ETA.The Plants....I'm thinking that I must have gotten a part of the first trim, everyone of about a dozen plants looked like I had just cut them the day before and they had blooms!!!! All individually wrapped. So seeing what I had I did my due diligence, going to the process of cleaning for planting, or not planting for some, but there was little to nothing 'cept for the potted ones and really not much there, all are in super condition.If all they're customers get this treatment, those customers will feel just as I do. I do understand that stuff happens sometimes, but I'm impressed bye these folks, I think they'll do their best to keep a reputation like that.

I purchased 22 plants. They were delivered the last week of February. The week before I started a new 5 gallon tank using 2" of stratem with a half inch gravel cap because I prefer that look. I have a 78 degree heater, a mid brightness light I keep on 8hrs and I put in an established sponge filter the day I planted the tank. I used water from my established, planted 29 gallon. I put them in the 5 gallon in case there was melting and left them to adapt to being submerged. It's 3 weeks later and most of the plants melted away to nothing. A few of the plants are doing OK, but the tank went from looking like a jungle to a scrub brush desert.

Save yourself the Trouble of constant water changes when every single one of your plants rot and die within the few days you’ve had them. Constant contact with customer support about my plants being stuck in a packaging facility for almost two weeks and they seem to just not care. Almost 100$ worth of plants down the drain. Do not order here. Petsmart has better quality.

Beware! Live plants come dead/decomposing. One plant even fell apart in my hand! After contacting customer service the same day of the delivery, they did not want to issue a refund or send out healthy plants. Representative stated I should be able to get them to good health and this is normal. This is not only impossible but terrible customer service. You can not ship a defective product and expect the customer to fix it.Offered a coupon code for my inconvenience. So I should spend more money and receive more decaying plants?! Stay away!!!

I ordered a lot of plants taking a chance on mail-order which usually is not a great source for living things. BUT!! MODERN AQUARIUM IS A BIG EXCEPTION. PLANTS looked a bit sad on arrival in plastic bags. I planted them in my aquariums and BOOMovernight they took off and look AMAZING.GREAT PLANTS, GOOD PRICES, FREE SHIPPING AT $80 IS VERY FAIR.I WILL ORDER AGAIN AND RECOMMEND TO MY AQUARIUM FRIENDS.

I purchased 5tiger eye Bertie snails and 5assorted mystery snails. Both batches arrived together and all snails alive as guaranteed. Merited we’re dropped right in and started working all are still alive and well now a week n a half later. The mystery snails were a bit slow to come out of the shells but with some yummy food they came out at night and by morning all in different places and food gone but back in the shells. Now a week n a half later I only have three as two have passed away but I’m not too upset about it as I still have the 3 and they’re young so they have time to breed and replace the lost ones..not to mention for them to have been shipped I can’t complain about the great pricing. thanks so much modern aquarium!!!

I just wanted to leave a little review and could not find where.My little Anubias Nana Petite on Lava Rock arrived today in perfect condition. It’s in my little Betta Tank and I’ve included photos for you to share. It’s a little stirred up from me putting it in there. You can see my beautiful male Betta but he don’t have a name. Fast shipping. Care taken to ensure live plants arrive healthy. Live plants arrived as advertised on website. Prices very competitive and fair. I placed another order yesterday. So far, no shipping info but as long as my plants come in and are in the same condition as the first order, I will be a happy customer.Update: Just received my second order with wysteria and rotala waliichii. Although small, the plants came healthy. The wysteria appears to have been obtained from cuttings and without roots. Hopefully, it does well.

Ordered the 24 Plant Package am very happy with the diversity I received and for the price of ~$3/plant I would highly recommend! The 24 pack was perfect for my 55 gallon and most of the plants have completely filled in or already grown to the top of the tank after only two weeks. You may receive different species from packages (dependent on availability), but check out the pictures of my tank pre-planted, planted and 1-week post-planting. I would highly recommend and will order from Modern Aquarium in the future.

I ordered some red root floaters and they are great. New to this floating plant and from others that told me about it so I thought I'd give it a go. I received a cup full of them. the roots were very long and the plants had little flowers on them already. I have shrimp and i heard that they are perfect for a shrimp tank and fry to hide in. I put them in 5 of my tanks when the lights were off so as not make the fish think they were being fed. With the roots being long, LOL..it funny to watch the fish look at them and be like what are those! Can't wait for them to get established and grow more on their own.

I ordered 5 mystery snails 🐌 and a bunch of aquarium plants from Modern Aquarium. The shipping was fast. I received my package within 4 days of ordering. And more importantly, it was free. All the other websites I had looked at before I found Modern Aquarium, shipping was outrageous, anywhere from 30-60$. The plants are beautiful and very healthy. When the snails arrived, I acclimated them to the water, then put them in my tank. But they didn’t move for an entire day. So I thought they were dead. I contacted customers support and they responded quickly with very helpful information. All five snails are alive and doing well. Thanks Modern Aquarium! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

I have had aquariums since the 1970's but never never had much luck with live plants. My 36 gallon bow front with typical topicals (Mollies, Tetras, etc.) was OK with some hardier plants, but my 65 gallon tank with Discus grew lots of algae and killed off pretty much every live plant . . .. I knew using RO water for the Discus tank was a likely cause. I stumbled upon the Modern Aquarium website and noticed their storefront was less than 30 minutes away. I called and they made it clear that, while I was welcome, all of their plants were shipped from Florida.I took the drive and had to be buzzed in. Small shop with some tanks stocked with fish and snails. Various shelves with treatments and equipment. Most of the action appeared to be in the rear of the premises for their online business. But the guy who let me in spent a good 30 minutes discussing water chemistry, substrates, treatments/fertilizers, etc. He made multiple recommendations without any pressure to buy from them. I left with some Netrite snails, a bottle of liquid fertilizer and a ton of advice.I ended up changing out my old glass gravel for a more plant friendly substrate and using the liquid fertilizer. Positive results with my existing unhealthy plants were apparent over a two week period. Also, the snails did a great job cleaning virtually every surface of the aquarium.I then happily ordered some plants, more snails and wave scissors from Modern Aquarium over the Labor Day weekend. The scissors arrived that Wednesday and the plants by FedEx two day shipping on Friday. Everything was in good shape. The Wisteria were just shoots with no roots and were very curved. But I weighted them down and within 36 hours they were straightened up and have been reaching for the sky. The Tiger Lotus and Cryptocoryne Wendtii Green are also thriving.So, unlike some other reviews here, I was very pleased with their customer service both in person and via mail order. I'll be back.
