I’ve been going to Pet World in Greece my entire life. Love the fish selection. Small animals are well socialized and taken care of by the staff. Birds are handled, ferrets etc. Just a good atmosphere in there.I recently took a job on the east side and needed some pet food after work. I saw that this location was nearby so I stopped in to get what I needed. I was extremely disappointed to see puppies in there. These ARE puppy mill puppies. Period. No ethical breeder lets a pet store take one from the litter to display. I was really torn on how to feel.While I was checking out I asked the front counter if they were affiliated with Greece… yes, same owner. I knew but asked to be 100% sure.I’m sad, but I don’t think I can support any location anymore. I foster special needs/discarded puppy mill puppies, and I can’t in good conscience shop here anymore. I loved supporting local but I’ll need to find another place.

PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE. I went to this store today as it was recommended for it's fish selection. However I was immediately greeted with barking towards the back of the store. They have $3000 puppies for sale that are kept in tiny glass cages. Along the size of a 2x2 foot square if I had to estimate. They all looked so sad and maybe not in the best of health. This store screams puppy mill.

This store had come highly recommended by some friends of mine. The store has a great selection of fish - salt and fresh - as well as supplies. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and I'll probably keep coming back. My only concern, as someone who has never shopped here before, are the several dead fish in various tanks. One had been mostly fed on by the shrimp - at least you know the shrimp eat well! Anyway, I know fish die just like any other animal, but as pet shop keepers I would think there'd be a certain standard of care that would be upheld. It's very discouraging to see deceased fish left uncared for with other live fish - as far as I understand it existing in the same environment as dead fish can be very stressful for the live fish, as well as harm the overall chemical balance of the tank. Because I was told by reliable friends to trust this store I did ultimately buy some fish, and the chat with the staff person I had did lift my spirits a bit. So I suppose we'll see how things work out and perhaps I'll update my review later.

This is my go to pet store for all my reptile and gerbil needs. I love the prices and selection and not to mention the fantastic customer service. I would also say they have the most impressive selection of tropical fish.

I buy most, if not all, of my supplies here.If you're worried about something in regards to your pet, do not hesitate to ask the staff questions. They're VERY knowledgeable and love what they do.

Upon entering to buy a fish…one couldn’t help but to be surprised to see the puppies in their little glass viewing cages. We soon realized…not to judge a book by it’s cover. We as a family…fell in love with a little doxie pup. We went in for a fish and left (a few days later) with a healthy little puppy. I can’t say enough about the amazing team and their thoroughness In the purchasing process. I went in thinking one thing and left with an immense respect for the team at Pet World. They truly care about all of the pets and their well being….they also care about educating the families purchasing. They take great care in educating you to understand (and feel comfortable with) all aspects of the puppy purchasing journey. I was able to ask any questions and they were happy to answer. Our little puppy couldn’t be more friendly and healthy….he was very loved and well taken care of while there…and we feel soVery blessed to be able to call him ours. I would highly recommend Pet World and can’t thank them enough for going above and beyond for our family (and puppy).

Big box stores often sell diseased fish parading as a perfect catch. It is NOT just pining for the Fjords, it is an EX-fish! But my little guy from pet world has been alive for what feels like eternity.Thank you pet world.So long and thanks for all the fish!

I am extremely disgusted walking into this store seeing what kind of condition the puppies are in that they are selling for thousands of dollars. A very tiny chihuahua was on display in a small play pen with nothing but a tiny little mat to rest on. The puppy was petrified, cold and posted for 2,800. That screams puppy mill at that price. As I continued to walk around the store I came across several puppies in the smallest glass displays. All of them looked depressed. That is no quality of life for an innocent pup. On top of that, multiple dogs had poop in their “kennels”. The “kennels” looked uncomfortable for the pups to even lay on. They had an all white husky that was too big for his “kennel”. Two shitzus that were poorly groomed. The one looked like it was hot and was trying to cool down in this small space. The cocker spaniel was probably the saddest Looking pup there. Everything about this experience was horrible. Even the workers were very unfriendly and truly had no passion for caring for animals. To state it’s a “ family owned “ place then observe dogs in that condition says a lot about the ownership group. I had just come from an adoption event with shelter rescues who were desperately looking for their furever homes and it’s unfortunately that innocent puppies were being sold for outrages amount just a pet store over. This company should be banned from selling dogs and should focus on all the dogs who need homes throughout shelters instead of continuing to be apart of the over overpopulation of us animals in Monroe county.

The owner MaryPat went above and beyond helping me w/a new Betta. I recommend this store highly! Its privately owned and the customer service is amazing!! Shes caring and helpful!

Only place I’ll go for fish and aquarium supplies. Fair prices for good quality and VERY VERY knowledgeable and super friendly staff. A lot of places that sell fish talk down to you and tell you what you can and can’t do with your tank. Not here! They are genuinely interested in what set ups you have and just happy to talk about the hobby. Never pushy, they just want to educate kindly, answer questions, and allow you the best chance at success with your set up.

If you have fish (or want them), DEFINITELY go here. I had a sick fish (pic below) and brought a pic in to get help. Their aquatics team is incredible and helpful. They also tested my water because I brought in a sample. I get all my fish here as well as aquatic plants for my tank. If you have an aquarium question or problem, they can help. They’re also locally owned :)

This tiny puppy that weighed less than 3 pounds, which is fine for hid breed, but when they close the store that poor puppy and all others all left all alone til someone comes in the next day, There is no grass for them to go potty. They sit in a cage more than they are outThis should not be allowed. For the price of that puppy you could rescue 20 dogs with shots ans add included. Rip off. How can she do that..

Pet World is where I get nearly all my aquarium supplies and my fish. We have 2 rabbits and nearly every thing for them has come from Pet World. The people are friendly and knowledgeable and have never steered me wrong when advising me about my aquariums or what types of fish I can put together. Both stores are always clean and well staffed. Prices are competitive... everything is expensive, so pricing, unless it's really out there, pricing is reasonable. I always have a good experience when shopping at Pet World.

It’s tragic that the law banning sales of dogs, cats and rabbits in pet shops in NYS, will not go into effect until 12/31/2024. I was in Pet World several months ago and questioned the assistant manager about the puppies they sell. He was rude and tried to “man-splain” to me that it’s not as people think it is. When I asked about health certificates for the puppies, he said he “didn’t know what I was talking about”.They had several puppies who had been there for more than 3 months living in cramped display cases. They were all on antibiotics as a health precaution due to one puppy having kennel cough. I was also told by one of the young people working there that the other puppies were most likely “fine” because they do not allow them to play or have contact with each other.Heartbreaking how greed can shift one’s moral compass. I would have respect for them as a business if they held adoption clinics with dogs, cats from local shelters versus fueling the problems with too many homeless animals!And, to “Jim’s” comment that he helped to write the legislation, sounds like that was an act of self-preservation for you in your bank account. Don’t know how you sleep at night, knowing the harm you were doing to those poor animals with inhumane living conditions.

Went to pet world for the first time and was pleased w the selection of fish supplies. I was not happy w the puppy mill style of place w several specialty puppies sitting in tiny crates on display. I left with a very sour taste in my mouth and for that I cannot go back. Very archaic way to sell those poor babies and promotes puppy mills. Sad this is still going on

Stopped here recently to check out the fish since the LFS I usually go to in Rochester closed. They didn’t have harlequin rasboras or panda cories which is what I was looking for but I had a nice chat with Andrew about fishkeeping and he showed me around. Staff seems very knowledgeable and helpful with fish. Will probably be coming back.

They make their dogs sleep on a hard wire looking rack with just a thin cheap blanket and no comfy bed. Horrible. They looked so sad.

I've been going to this shop a lot lately to buy some small fish and prawns and everyone working there has been very friendly. Be helpful! Especially these two times to meet a braided man, service attitude is very good 👍

This store is clearly a puppy mill outlet. It is so sad to me that people are still encouraging irresponsible breeding of dogs. They lost any hope of getting my business by selling puppy mill dogs.

I was incredibly disappointed and heartbroken to see how they keep their dogs. They are kept in “display case” crates that are incredibly small for any size dog. The dogs are clearly not taken out to go to the bathroom as almost every crate had waste in it. The dogs have to practically sit in the waste because of the size of their crates, which also makes me question how often the crates are even cleaned. I will definitely not shop here unless conditions for these animals improve drastically and would not recommend anyone to shop here. Very disheartening.

Very nice staff in attendance there! The puppies are adorable. They're very playful; a little poodle mix was so cute and sweet and full of life. We played for the longest time. I tried to sneak away and I could see him peeping, trying to keep an eye on me. The others were just as playful and so sweet. Of course I wanted them all, especially that little poodle. My ♥️ stayed behind with him.

Awesome shop I just picked up my python there saves my back during water changes. And last week bought a sweet piece of driftwood didn't cloud my water just like the guy said it would not. Great customer service and rare finds here and a great selection of live aquatic plants grown underwater. I state this because there is little to no melting with plants grown underwater vs cultures and plants in a tube. Great store my go to for filters and such.

I bought my mini golden doodle here nearly 5 years ago. She is now s trained therapy dog and is sweet tempered and loved by my clients. Pet World was helpful and responsive and to me, the puppies appeared well cared for. When Macey became ill soon after adoption they covered her vet bills since I had just gotten her. I would buy from them again.

I really want to like this store, but every time we get fish or frogs from here they don’t last long. We have fish and frogs from another store we shop at that have been in our tank for awhile. Our African Dwarf frogs from Pet World both died within two weeks. But our other two from a different store have been around for months and still living. When I called Pet World they told me their policy is within 48 hours and they claimed that their frogs are perfectly healthy. They weren’t willing to work with me (nor seemed sorry) and now I have a very upset six year old. 👎

The way they treat the puppies here is terrible. They drink out of hamster water bottles their reasoning for this is so they don’t spill their bowls. No spill bowls would work just fine but instead they use hamster water bottles. They sleep on a grate with holes, no beds, blankets or anything. They go to the bathroom in their very small cages and they have a pull out try underneath their grates to change out after they defacate or urinate. they don’t go outside and they are not socialized at all. There was a pug puppy there that was shaking to death and crying, super scared and stressed out curled up on her hard grate and it was heartbreaking to see. The price for them is outrageous. Would NOT recommend.

I used to enjoy shopping here, but every time I've come in lately there's been dead or sickly fish in the tanks. And I cannot STAND the designer puppies in the glass boxes. Please stop working with breeders and start working with rescues. Staff is usually great, but the puppies and the sickly fish have made me find a new store.
