Dr. Shulman was amazing, I lost my best friend Sunny but Dr. Shulman was so caring, informative and comforting during a very difficult time. Incredible doctor and Sunny could not have chosen a better place for her last hours with us. Thank you very much for everything. Before coming to Rhinebeck Animal Hospital we were turned away at other places, and you took us in even with a last minute emergency so thank you!

If I could give double the stars I would for RAH and Dr. Porter. My dog was diagnosed with Diabetes a few weeks ago. A dear friend told me about RAH and Dr. Porter, and what a blessing this has been. She is the best, and I've had some great vets in both Los Angeles and Austin. From our first visit, there was a sense of relief knowing my dog was in her care. She showed true compassion and was so knowledgeable about the disease. When he suddenly went blind seemingly overnight (a common side effect from Diabetes) she was available via email and kept in touch during that crisis. I know Riggley is getting the best care possible. I live in Woodstock but the 30 minute drive is worth it. The Staff are also exceptional. The first call I made was handled by Sean who got me in that day to see Dr. Porter. I can't recommend this hospital enough. The good news is that all the vets are exceptional. In the lobby. other patients are always saying how much they love their vets as well..

I can't say enough good things about this place and the kind, compassionate staff that work there, and upon reading a bad review about Dr. VanDemark, I felt the need to help set the record straight.Dr. VanDemark is the reason I won't even consider taking my pets anywhere else. He has provided wonderful care for our animals that I can only describe as having a vast knowledge of veterinary science tempered with the composure of an old country doctor and we've ran the full gauntlet of early life to end of life care with him. He's been honest as far as treatment pros and cons, what the chances typically are and whether or not the outcome is optimistic or not.We worked with him extensively as far as a weight loss plan for our little potato man who recently passed away (RIP Beowulf) and in a year got him down 5lbs to a much more appropriate weight, which, if he was a human he'd have been on "My 600lb life" or something. He was fascinated by the data we collected and took the information on what worked for us effectively saying "I tell a lot of people their pet needs to lose weight, and you're probably part of the 1/2 percent that listens".That was 3 years ago, and I'm happy to have had that time with the cat thanks in part to Dr. VanDemark because it might've been much shorter if we didn't act sooner. It's unfortunate when we lose a pet, and it sucks quite frankly, but I know for a fact my little guy had a GREAT life and was spoiled the whole time with people in his life that loved him or gave him excellent care like Dr. VanDemark. And to anyone who says it's pricey, you get what you pay for. When I first got my little guy I went the cheap route (I was younger) with an ASPCA neutering, later that day I was in Rhinebeck animal hospital having his spermator tube put back in because he ripped a stitch or it was done wrong or something. So basically, I thought I could get away with half paying for the job and I ended up spending what I would've spent if Rhinebeck Animal Hospital would've done it the first time, correctly, and wouldn't have had to call into work that day either. It's a great place, read this against a 1 star review and draw your own conclusions, or just bring your pet there and give them a shot. If it's hard to be a doctor in general, it's gotta be that much more difficult diagnosing patients who can't really communicate like humans but I genuinely feel they do the absolute best they can and I've never found them unsatisfactory.

I had such an amazing experience RAH. I must have called over a dozen different vet clinics and animal hospitals. They were extremely friendly, patient and helpful to my fur baby's needs. They were honest and showed true concern for my boy's well being, rather than just getting another client into the building. I highly recommend RAH I will definitely be coming back for all my boys needs.

We have been bringing our kitties to RAH since 2014 when they saved one of them from a life-threatening urinary blockage with emergency surgery on Christmas Eve. Over the years the doctors and staff have continually gone above and beyond for us and our fur-family. The vets, techs, assistants, and folks in the office are all SO kind and compassionate. I can't imagine that their jobs are anywhere near easy, and yet they always make you feel like your pet is their only patient. Most recently one of our kitties needed to spend a couple of nights after becoming quite unwell, and the techs sent us pictures each morning and evening so that we knew how he was doing and we received comprehensive updates and diagnostics from the doctors daily. Everyone goes the extra mile and it's so comforting. We are continually grateful to have such stellar veterinary care available locally at RAH!

I wish I could give these guys more than 5 stars. If you want great human-quality care for your loved ones in the Hudson Valley, I truly believe this is the best place you can go to. Everyone there is extremely nice, the facility is very modern and well-staffed and well-equipped (nicer than some human hospitals) and Dr. Van Demark is exceedingly patient, kind and thorough. We brought our senior cat here a while back and Dr. Van Demark, did a thorough exam and took the time to answer ALL of my questions without making me feel rushed or dismissed. He also did blood testing that revealed some potentially concerning enzyme levels and he took a conservative approach by immediately prescribing temporary medication right away that fixed the issue and had us come back for a followup in a short time. Then, at another followup, they found a medical issue via an X-Ray that required specialist involvement. Dr. Van Demark did not hesitate to refer us to a specialist immediately and, sadly, we have not been back here since, due to the specialist continuing to handle and monitor our cat's care. What I really appreciate, aside from the thorough care at Rhinebeck, is that Dr. Van Demark showed that his sole focus and priority was the health of our cat, not whether or not he might lose our business to a specialty center by referring us to them. His only goal was to do anything that would help ensure that our cat had the best outcome possible. I can tell you, this quality is not as easy to find as one would hope when it comes to animal medicine.

It was hard for me to change vets that I have been affiliated with since 1994. I was apprehensive but my former vet retired and I needed something closer to home. After much searching I decided to give Rhinebeck Animal Hospital a try. It was the best move I could have made! Dr. Tumolo was awesome! The techs were friendly and made me feel at home. From my first introductory email to inquire, my subsequent visits, and my follow ups have been a wonderful experience! I am grateful for them and their professional service.

I have been trying to call to book an appointment for WEEKS for a cat who needs to be dematted and sedated (only available at a vets office) and have gotten no answer and no response from voice messages left. When I was fed up enough to go in and make an appointment, the girl at the front desk was rude and refused to book an appointment. All over a simple sedated grooming. If you’re looking for good service don’t go here.

I can not express how thankful we are to this team of vets and technicians. Our 11 year old female yellow lab was having a difficult time breathing and was lathargic. Our vet in Pine Plains said they were too busy to see her. I called Rhinebeck Animal Hospital, although we had never been there before, they told us to bring her right in. They took her immediately. She was critical. She was in sypsis shock, had pneumonia, low blood pressure, low oxygen level, and dehydrated. She stayed at the Hospital for 3 days getting IV fluids, antibiotics, and nebulizer treatments. The Technicians took time out of their day to send us pictures of our girl in the morning and at night. They kept us informed. She is home and working on getting better. We are so grateful to the staff at Rhinebeck Animal Hospital for the care they gave Bailey.

I would not recommend Rhinebeck Animal Hospital. I called a week prior to my appointment for my soon-to-be newly adopted kitten because I needed an earlier appointment. My mom is dying of cancer and lives 3 hrs away and I'm temporarily moving to be with my family during this time. I've had to reschedule numerous things in my life right now, and have to adopt my kitten sooner than anticipated. Everyone, everywhere has been kind and accommodating through the process, EXCEPT for Rhinebeck Animal Hospital.I spoke with a woman this morning and she expressed no care or concern, but was able to give me an appointment 1 day sooner than the one I already had. I took it, but then thought there might be another option.I called back later in the day to see if I could be placed on a cancellation list. The woman I spoke with was short with me. I explained to her my situation and that I didn't appreciate their office's lack of sensitivity. At the very least, even if they couldn't get me on the cancellation list or an earlier visit, they could have been kind about it. When I let her know I was dissatisfied. The woman actually started yelling at me. How heartless can a person be? I never raised my voice. I didn't give her attitude. I'm in a place of need right now and was just looking for some help.I was fortunate to get an almost immediate appointment with Banister Animal Hospital in Kingston. They were so kind and caring and will be seeing my kitten for a drop-off visit on Monday (today is Saturday). If you care about your own well-being and that of your pet, I strongly suggest you consider this review when deciding if this is the right place for you.

My cat had a bad urinary blockage and they were able to see him right away, unfortunately the catheter did not help him to unblock and we had to proceed with PU surgery. They were able to get a surgeon in the next day and PU surgery was successful! During his overnight stays at the hospital, the vet techs would text me daily with updates and pictures which was so thoughtful of them. Thank you to the vet techs and vets Dr. Porter, Dr. Gelernter, Dr. Shulman and others for saving his life! I would definitely recommend this hospital!

I had a small emergency with my dog yesterday and my normal vet wasn't around yesterday so my boss ( who's a client ) called RAH and they took me the same day.I was thoroughly impressed with the staff and (especially) Dr. Shulman. I've never had a Vet explain the issues so meticulously. His "bedside manner" cannot be rivaled. He put my worries to ease and welcomed me to RAH. In my experience the vets I've dealt with are somewhat gruff and a bit detached. Not Dr. Shulman. The staff members are amicable and made me feel appreciated.I'm so happy with RAH I'll be switching to them going forward.Thank you all so much for taking care of Riley.

UPDATE: 4/28Zaida will be euthanized today due to nephrotic kidney disease because of lyme.I suggest you do not take the risk and if you must- advocate for yourself and for your pet.I’d also like you to notice how this establishment is “never in the wrong”.Each negative review is countered by the business owner. Food for thought. And in response to the response I received.Even so the primary rule was cancer, Once ruled out why not test for Lyme?DR.VAN DEMARKWe brought our dog in to see Dr. Vandemark 3/22/2023 for swollen lymphnodes. They took samples from the lumps and ruled out 4 different"Oma's" as they were concerned it could be cancer. She was diagnosed with a "round cell tumor" (non cancerous thankfully) and was prescribed 2 medications. We gave her the medication as prescribed. The visit & meds prescribed was around $450?A couple weeks later we notice the lumps are back and she is limping- she is active so we thought that she played a bit to hard and gave it a day.The next day she is completely lame. I have to carry her in and out of the house to use the bathroom as she can't walk. I am now very concerned, scared and urge my fiance to take her to the Vet ER in Kingston. They ran a Lyme disease test right away. She was positive. Both practices have the same owner and even the Kingston vet said "why was she not tested for Lyme?"Mind you-l'm not a doctor/vet but if you Google right now"signs of Lyme disease in dogs" one of the first symptoms is swollen lymphnodes...Even according to his office note he states "lymphocytic inflammation may be seen with foreign body.... Eg: Insect bite"Why on earth would he not test for Lyme?Instead my dog was prescribed medication that would not help and was misdiagnosed. And we were charged.I respectfull requested some sort of reimbursement for at least the $200 of medication that wasn't needed. Something! And reiterated that this ER vet visit could have been avoided had he caught it prior! The response was "I'm sorry you feel that way"No ownership of maybe overlooking something- zeroWe will not be reimbursed - but we also will never bring an animal to him again nor allow our friends/family/colleagues.I cannot speak for the whole office but this was completely overlooked by Dr. Van Demark and I DO NOT recommend anybody bringing there canine for treatment to him.I spoke to numerous vets today and vet techs who were surprised she was not tested initially. She is now on the correct medication and we are hoping she can recover before the disease takes a toll on her.P.s the receptionist Sandy in Rhinebeck is nice and the Kingston office however was fabulous

What a professional, clean animal hospital! Winnie (my pup) always receives such great care here. The vet technicians are always so kind & sweet to Winnie, and the vets are wonderful. I’ve also taken my rooster here for bad case of bumble foot last year. They were so helpful and professional with Roosty. I was really impressed. He’s doing great a year later. I completely recommend.

Rhinebeck Animal Hospital is wonderful. I have been using them for my pets needs for years. Every experience has been positive from the friendly staff to the knowledgeable doctors. I have had the doctors email and call me after hours when I have had questions regarding my cats care. My last visit was difficult as I said goodbye to my cat of 10 years. The staff made sure every detail was taken care of so I was able to say goodbye without the hassle of paperwork, paying a bill, etc. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a vet that takes pride in their service to ensure the best possible care for your animals.

We have been working with Rhinebeck Animal Hospital for the last few years and are very pleased with their skilled and knowledgeable doctors, their supportive and warm vet assistants and staff. They first cared for our now deceased cat, Little Girl, and truly extended her life beyond what we expected given she was on insulin and suffered from chronic pancreatitis. That she lived until she was 18.5 is a miracle and I give them credit for that. They now take care of our 8 year old German Shepherd, Zena, and have worked hard to correct serious intestinal problems and deficiencies she had subsequent to a near fatal gastric torsion episode that required major stomach surgery elsewhere. She is doing great now!! Thank you so much for everything!

We highly recommend Rhinebeck Animal Hospital and their staff. Our dog, Willie, and cat, Sophie, are frequent visitors: it's like a home-from-home for our critters. We have complete confidence in the vets and support staff who treat our pets as if they were their own. Especially our dog, who looks forward to his visits at the Hospital. Since we travel a lot, Willie spends a fair amount of time at the Hospital, boarding, and he considers it like his personal spa and social scene! We would not hesitate to promote the Rhinebeck Animal Hospital as a caring, highly professional, friendly and effective one-stop service for your loved animals.

I love Rhinebeck Animal Hospital. They are very clear about the cost of their services. They have such an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. I called in to get a grooming appointment for my Maine Coon cat and she was extremely booked. I waited 2 months because I didn't want to take him anywhere else. Bonnie has been so good with him. I would recommend them to anyone.

I love Rhinebeck Animal Hospital. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and their website makes finding an appointment time easy. I have seen most of the Doctor's and all of them are great. I particularly love Dr. Dundas. She has really helped my pets and I through some transitional times. I have been using them for over five years and have never had a bad experience.

From start to finish, the entire team at Rhinebeck Animal Hospital was empathetic and caring when we needed help knowing how to manage quality of life for our senior kitty, Zoe, whom we have loved for over 18 years. Their response to our emergency situation was outstanding and is proof that they love our pets as much as we do. Zoe is snuggled on my lap with her paws comfortably tucked under her, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

This is actually the third vet I have brought my birds to and they were absolutely wonderful. I no longer have to find another vet. They were friendly and caring. The interior was light, clean, and nice. A little hot in the building. The staff was just awesome and didnt rush us. The vet was actually knowledgeable. She even stopped what she was doing when she felt that my one bird was too stressed. They treat your pet like it is your baby. Honestly the prices were very reasonable. I definitely recommend them.

Cannot say enough amazing things about Rhinebeck Animal Hospital! We are new puppy parents (neurotic, nervous, worried) and Dr. Porter, Dr. Tumolo, and the whole RAH staff have gone above and beyond to get back to our messages, squeeze us in when needed, and really truly care for our little pup! Every question is answered, and every worry or ailment has an action step, all with kindness and patience. We will never bring a pet anywhere else! Thank you RAH!

I came here for my baby Bearded Dragon. This was the only place around me that took exotic pets & was able to see me for an Emergency Appt within a day (other places had up to 1.5 month wait!) I had feared my BD broke her toe and she had an on-going issue with her tail. The front desk staff were kind, and pleasant to deal with. The technician was also nice and comforting, given the situation. I met with Dr. Van Demark, and he was great with my little girl. He gave me a few examples of what the issues could be and started me on treatment right away to be proactive. Also, made another appointment to check in with her the next week, to ensure everything was going to plan. I've had multiple questions since then, and needed guidance with a few situations; Dr. Van Demark has corresponded with me multiple times via email regarding any issues I've had. It seems like she's getting better, thanks to him & the whole team. I couldn't be more grateful and well-meaning when recommending anybody to see him for their reptiles/ other exotics or pets. The price was very reasonable and even though I'd pay anything to save her ... it was under $100 for the exam and her 2 medications; With access to his fantastic medical expertise after the initial appointment. Give this place an opportunity to care for your pets! I'm sure you'll both (your pet & you) be happy with the outcome of this decision. Thanks again Dr & RAH! 🐩🐈‍⬛🐹🐁🐇 🐸🦎🐍

I have been going to RAH with my dogs for years. We see Dr. Porter and she is awesome! She is incredibly compassionate and patient when handling our dogs. Her calm and peaceful demeanor helps to calm my younger dog down (she also, had the same effect on a rescue dog I had that has since passed away). What I appreciate the most is how completely thorough Dr. Porter is. When we have visited for an emergency or when something is not going well; she takes the time to really listen to me. As a medical professional myself, I can not say how important that is... Just like with ourselves, or our children we know when our dogs are not feeling well and taking the time to listen to all of the symptoms is vital to a correct diagnosis. Dr. Porter is extremely intelligent and she is never afraid to go ask another vet for their opinion, if there is any doubt in her mind (that clearly shows her primary concern is for my animal’s health). When one of our dogs was diagnosed with cancer she emailed me a printout explaining everything about the cancer. She also, took the time to research a variety of chemo treatments and had his samples sent to an oncologist to confirm the pathology; this way there were no doubts about how to proceed. Her diagnosis was correct, and she treated my dog and cured him of his cancer. She also, takes the time to go over a variety of treatment options and the pros and cons of each choice. I really like that I am not given a single choice (however, there are times when only one thing will work), but a variety and that I can select what works best for my animals and my family. Finally, she always checks up to see how we are doing after a sick visit.I am a mother, and my dogs are family members, too. We love them and making sure they live long and healthy lives is extremely important to me. I know that Dr. Porter cares about my dogs and their health. Her empathy shines through. She is stuck with us for life!In addition, the staff at RAH has always been pleasant and helpful. I was really impressed at my last visit; there has been an increase in cases of kennel cough, so to keep animals safe the doctors were conducting wellness exams in the parking lot. This is a beautiful example of RAH taking a proactive step in preventing the spread of kennel cough and their dedication to keeping a healthy animal in that condition by limiting any interaction between their patients.I have had nothing, but excellent experiences every time I have been to RAH!

Rhinebeck Animal Hospital I have to say is outstanding. I had come to them after many many years at another Vet, and I have to say it was the best decision I had made in years. The quality of care is excellent, the staff are great and there prices are very affordable. My previous vet was super expensive and gave me a very poor quality of care. I live over an hour away from the clinic, but I don't care, they are so good that they are worth the effort to get there. Take your loved and cherished pets to them, you will be so glad that you did. Good luck finding a better vet in the hudson valley better then them. 7 stars would be a more appropriate rating for them.

Commenting after seeing all the negative reviews(fb and on here now as well) lately... I am Making a burner because I am literally scared of retaliation from the people who work at this hospital. Ultimately they charge a RIDICULOUS amount for (mediocre care at best)you to watch your pet die. I luckily was able to bring my baby to another veterinary office who saved his life but am really scarred from the way me and my 8 month old puppy were treated. I would check Banister Animal Hospital and Better Lives out, both are in the area and reputable!
