I simply adore this place and everything about it. The owners are both delightful and always so happy to see you and happy to help. We have brought Mary Jane here for boarding every time we go on vacation as well as for getting her nails trimmed and they are so professional with that. I love that they have bird social hours and they have a fantastic selection of toys and very healthy bird food and treats. 🧔🧔

Very knowledgeable and great customer service. Brought my daughter's Bugie in for wing/nail clipping. Staff was great, patient and made us feel very welcome and comfortable as new bird owners with tons of questions.Loved the open atmosphere of the birds flying around. Even taught my daughter how to catch one of the birds; she absolutely enjoyed herself. Felt no pressure or coerced to purchase anything.Big thanks to previous reviewers of this business. Your reviews helped me decide on this place versus others and you didn't disappoint. Will be returning for sure to get any future food and clippings done here even though we are about 5hrs away....YES they are THAT good!

The staff is wonderful, friendly and always available to help with questions or suggestions. We’ve boarded our African Gray ā€œSpankyā€ when we travel and she loves it there!! 5+ Stars all the way around!! They’re the best and it’s a fun place to visit too.

I love this place ... not only do they sell birds and an array of bird accessories, but they allow you to interact with the birds in the shop. The birds are raised by the owners who are extremely informative and welcoming. This place is a must visit if you have a feathery friend.

Tucked away store location that feels like you’re lost. The first thing noticed on a summer day was people smoking outside. Glad they were outside. The store has a 1970s bird food and care style. Still breeding birds popular in rescues. Which indicates breeder bug for profit and maybe a lack of foresight. The long term ramifications for birds doesn’t take into consideration their life span, over population in rescues and the need for continued education and training for humans. The standard of care isn’t exceptional at the location. A few loose birds on small perch areas attached to walls. Daily cleaning of poop from surfaces is recommended when multiple birds and the public around. Changing out all perches, toys and especially rope items should be done every 6 months. Yes, throw them out and buy new.Questions to ask before buying a bird: date of last vet check with lab work, training during hand feeding, continued education of breeder, continued training and education for customers, age of bulk foods, sanitation schedule of location … to name a few.

Went to get a bird I had called about, drove here which was an hour and half away, to be told bird was not being adopted or sold they changed their mind? I think they are just bird hoarders that sell toys honestly didn’t seem interested in helping get a bird at all. Although there were several birds around I was told they were ALL boarders. Definitely shouldn’t qualify for a rescue.

I really wanted to like this place because I’m pretty sure they take in rescue birds which is great, but the staff weren’t really helpful when I asked about purchasing a cockatiel. They said they didn’t have any for sale when I saw at least 3 or 4 in the store that day. I’m assuming that those were already sold and being held there, but it would’ve been nice if they had clarified that or tried to help in anyway like explaining when they’d be getting new birds in. Maybe I got the wrong impression of this place based on the reviews saying it’s a good place to get a bird because the staff didn’t seem interested in selling me one. Lots of good bird supplies though.

Tina, Lisa and Eddie are the best. I only ever get my birds here. You’re guaranteed a hand raised baby (if that’s what what you choose). They also are very well cared for when you board there. Highly recommend.

These ladies are the best !! Knowledgeable, willing to educate and help you. Welcoming environment. They go above and beyond. 100% + satisfied. We , my two Macaws and I have found our forever groomers that are superb as my male bites and they had no problems handling him and he didn't even bite. It was amazing like he knew he was in safe hands truly amazing ! Would recommend ten times over to all bird owners big and small.

I absolutely LOVE the Rensselaer Bird Center. Lisa and Tina are the sweetest, and the birds just adore them! I purchased my Senegal parrot there 10 years ago, and I still bring her there for toys, nails, wings, and boarding when I go out of town. They go above and beyond there, and I will never stop singing their praises!!!

We try to never miss the Saturday socials where you can bring your Healthy Birds and gather where is even get socialized. They make some of their own bird seed mixes and sell in bulk and what's even better is 95% of the time or more the owner is in the store so if you're looking for something and it's not there if you ask somebody they can ask the owner if you're not asking them if it's something they can get very personalized service definitely worth checking out if you're in the area

I am beyond upset!!! I run a rescue and had adopted Willow an Umbrella Cockatoo to a couple that would leave Willow with Rensselaer Bird Center when they would go on vacation. Willow was under contract to be returned to me in the event that the couple could no longer care for her. While on vacation, the couple had communicated with the owners and told them that one of them had developed an allergy to the dander from Willow. I was informed on one of my text messages to the couple that they had allowed Rensselaer Bird Center to adopt Willow out to one of their good friends. I reminded them of our contract, to which they had no recollection, I then sent a copy of said contract to remind them. They refused to call RBC to get Willow returned to me. I then went with said contract to speak with the owners of RBC regarding Willow and the contract to explain that ownership of Willow reverts back to me as per the contract. Now I understand that RBC owners may not have know at the time they gave Willow to whomever they gave her to, but upon finding out, They should have contacted the person she was transferred to. Instead what I got was they claimed they had no idea who had her, claimed they don't keep records of where the birds go to.(What kind of animal rescue does not keep records?) Which totally contradicts the text I had received from the couple whom I had adopted Willow to. RBC Owners tried to claim they did not know the person I had adopted her too, but within a few minutes of me getting there, he showed up, still insisting that he had Willows best interest at heart because she could get more attention than he and his partner could give her, and she is doing well,(however had also claimed to me that they did not know who RBC had adopted her to) he then told Lisa, "show her a picture of her now so she can see" Which at that point, Lisa glared at him and waved her hand that was on her lap as if to keep him quiet. Which I believe Lisa thought that had gone unnoticed, but it did not!!! Lisa and Tina are clearly being untruthful and know perfectly well where Willow is and for them to blatantly lie and withhold Willow from me is reprehensible!! There is no way they do not know where she is. And if anyone reading this may know where Willow is, I just want her back as the only reason I even adopted her to the couple was because they were friends that lived nearby and I could keep tabs on her. I would have never had adopted her to them had I known they would break our contract. I have included a screenshot of the conversation with the couple whom I had adopted Willow to which clearly states that the person whom took Willow was a good friend of the owners of RBC. I also included a couple of the texts during her stay with the couple that has pictures of her as I kept in contact with them regarding her as I am very fond of Willow.
