This is saved under one of my favorite escapes from the city. They have beautiful, easy trails that immerse you in nature. They also have animal rescues and rehabilitated animals as well - from owls, to falcons, to eagles, to possums and tortoises! In the visitor’s center, they have reptiles and insects! It’s a great place to clear your mind, do some light aerobic activity, or to educate your young kids. The place is maintained well and is clean. The staff are friendly and engaging. They offer so many free activities and programs. It’s never full any time I’ve gone either so I’m a bit weary to promote it because I want to keep it an IYKYK kind of gem, but a place like this that offers so much beauty and help for free should be shared. Please come and support them!

This was a beautiful evening spent at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. If you've not visited, put it on your list to do so. The hubby found it last week when the news did a story on it. The kids would love all the activities they have to offer as well as walking the trails. Our little one immersed himself with every turn. And the beautiful colored leaves just stopped us in our tracks.

Looking for a quiet place to recharge and soak up the beauty of Mother Nature? Quogue wildlife refuge is the perfect place! Take a stroll on one of the three trails that are surrounded by trees. They host special family events throughout the year. On your walk, there are benches to sit and take a rest. Enjoy the fall colors that reflect off the lake. Enjoy!

This place is awesome! There are two gigantic turtles in the pond and incredible owls that get very close to you in their enclosures, among other animals. It's breathtakingly beautiful and even my toddler loved it. We were a little disappointed that the nature center closed at 4 but I'm sure that's the best they can do with their budget. I'd come here instead of the zoo any day. Please visit and donate.

Amazing place. Gorgeous hiking trails and lake views. Lots of birds especially nesting towhees! Loved the rescued animal sanctuary as well. Signs are easy to follow and was not crowded in the afternoon on a beautiful Saturday. Brought home a tick too so be careful if you come here and check for ticks before getting in the car (lonestars).

We went out here for the first time today, and we were so pleasantly surprised! The grounds and animals are clearly well cared for, and we had a great time exploring, despite the dreary day. We also signed up for a "Meet the Animals" presentation, which was WONDERFUL! For only $5 pp, we got to get up close and personal with multiple animals for about an hour. The animal educator was SO friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. FIVE STARS, we will definitely return!

This is such a beautiful spot anytime of year but especially in the fall. I have been coming here since I was a young girl. There is nature trails through the woods with little bridges and ponds. It is so serene and very therapeutic. The nature center is always offering great educational events. Be sure to check out their website!

A beautiful place to walk and observe nature. There are live owls and animals in zoo like enclosures. The walk around the lake is amazing and very well maintained. Trails are well marked and mowed. Bring your composting and add it to their stock. There is ample free parking.

I'm reluctant to post this because the Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a secret gem and I don't want it to get more popular. There are many miles of trails through the woods that are peaceful, quiet, and serene. Gorgeous views of the pond. The main trail can be done with a stroller or wheelchair. There's also an environmental center. The trails are open dawn to dusk with no charge. Donations welcome.

Raptor (live birds of prey) program yesterday was appreciated by adults and children. It's a unique space that would benefit from an update in decor--starting with doing away with the MANY taxidermy specimens hanging from the ceiling .... someone is probably attached to them or has nowhere else to store their collection? Also information in Spanish on the web site & in the main building would be welcome by many families in the Suffolk area. Items on sale are not marked with prices?

I have been going to this hidden gem since I was a young child. It remains the same, yet is different every day. It reminds me of my childhood and is my place of Zen. The Refuge is masterfully directed by Mike and Marisa Nelson, every event is done well and with intent and the trails and grounds are maintained with great care. Their staff is helpful and informative and the volunteers are eager to serve. If you need a place of peace and appreciate nature this is the place for you. Check them out online as there is always something going on.

Beautiful! My husband and I were out visiting family and decided this would be a great opportunity to take our annual photos. We had no clue the new boardwalk was open until our photographer took us out there, absolutely stunning!

My wife and I have been coming to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge since we were children, and we’ve been bringing our children here for the last 13 years!! This place is a beautiful nature preserve and a wonderful asset to the area.. There’s tons to learn and observe here.. If you’re just looking for a peaceful getaway this is the perfect place for that.. The staff here is always friendly and helpful and they maintain the property extremely well so it’s always clean safe.. A favorite attraction for children is the animal sanctuary, where they keep several animals that are either being rehabilitated or are unable to be released back into the wild.. Foxes, owls, hawks and turkey.. The kids will love spending time checking them out!! They also keep a full schedule of programs and events for kids and adults so check them out online.. If you’re on the east end of Long Island and your looking for something to do in nature definitely check out the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.. You won’t be disappointed!!
