I have been using Whitaker's since the late 70's when Jim Rusher was the proprietor...never once in 6 decades have they let me down...when you find a place that the help never leaves and the continuity of professionalism stays at the top you know you are dealing with good folks. The shop and lodge are great and they know the fishery as well as anyone.

Top notch fly shop. The gentleman who helped me with a new rod outfit and local fly patterns was an absolute pro and put up with all of my questions. Highly, highly recommended for friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great selection of fishing gear.

Best prices around, don't let the other stores fool you, rods are the best price here, and they actually carry real fly fishing supplies, Orvis fly line, and all nice Simms gear at real prices, not salmon season prices, I order all my Billy Pate reel from here, they are honest.

Great family owned, and run fishing gear and apparel shop. The Adamski family and staff are honest and helpful above all other shops in the area. They tell you and sell straight up. Great source for up to the minute fishing and water conditions. I have been a Whitaker's customer for over 30 years. I trust them to supply myself, my customers, and friends, as if they were taking care of their own family. If they don't have it, or can get it, you probably don't need it.

All I know about Whitaker's is the phenomenal customer service. Based on my experience I can highly recommend them. I recently was on the prowl for a discontinued fly material, Hareline Woolley Chenille. I found Whitaker's on a search and promptly ordered what I wanted. After a brief delay, I was contacted that the stock quantities I was asking for were not available and an update as to what was. I responded I would place a new order. This was problematic because of my CC cutting off the purchase, complicated by placing two orders back to back and a delay due to the season of their location and business. This was not at all any fault of the shop. After some confusing back and forth contact attempts I finally was able to touch base with the shop owner on the phone and was so glad to get a chance to chat with him briefly. He was very helpful and completed my order over the phone with no issues, not to mention shipping my order and arriving in Idaho only two days later. We got time to chat briefly on tying and fishing and I only wish I had more time that day to chew the fat on flyfishing, as our interests and familiarity were very similar. My experience with the shop was involved in direct contact with the company, whose customer service was perhaps second to none. I frequent a similar type of establishment here in Idaho and Whitaker's has proven that same type of quality of care. All I can say is that based on my experience, I can see why they have such a devoted following and if I was looking for the type of place and fishing experience they offer, I would not hesitate to book with them.Customer service such as theirs is hard to find sometimes these days and if and ever I have the opportunity to do business with them again, I will not hesitate. I fully appreciate how they handled my business and for my part, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them!!!!

Wonderful experience at the Whitakers sport shop. They were welcoming and very friendly. After a horrible experience at Yankee fly & tackle, we headed here in an attempt to find a decent fly shop; they exceeded all of our expectations. If you want to know what you need (gear/flies/technique) to catch fish, and not just how to foul-hook fish, this is where you need to go. A++!

Very clean, neat and well stocked sport shop. Although I went there to just get a license, I would definitely recommend them for your fishing needs.

Here’s the deal, the hotel is clean and warm. For that, I’ll give them 4 stars. It’s the owners who deserve the star. Reserved one room, three people for one night. At time of phone call, confirmed one room, three people for one night. Show up on the day to check in. Gentlemen behind the counter says, “yeah, got you down for two rooms, three people for one night.” Explain that isn’t the case. No big deal. One room, three people for one night. Pay for the room. Here’s the problem. At 1:30p on the day of checkout, I get a call from them. Person on the other end of the line tells me, “it’s not a problem now, but it could be for future reference. You booked two rooms. If it was salmon season, we would charge you for that room.”Hold up! You’re telling me that a person at your business took it upon himself to book two rooms on your paper log (mind you, we were the only three people staying there that night) and you’re going to hold me accountable? No. No you are not. I’ll never take my business there. For future people staying with more than one person, be warned. They will try to swindle you.

Great place to stop in if you need some outerwear, fly or centerpin gear. I have been happy with the assistance and selection of products available. A definite stop when I'm in town for salmon or steelhead fishing. A better stop than the larger stores pre-dawn when all you need are split shot, eggs or leaders as they are smaller and generally less crowded more relaxed environment.

First.. The retail store. When you walk in, right away you can tell Whitaker's caters to just about every type of fisherman - fly fishermen, center pinners, spin fishermen, and bait fishermen. As a fly fisherman, primarily a spey fisherman, Whitaker's isn't my first choice near the Salmon River but they come through in a pinch. I will say the service I've experienced at Whitaker's has been superb. Rob has on a couple of occasions gone out of his way to take care of me when he was really under no obligation to. The store opens early so it's a good place to grab some stuff before hitting the water. Whitaker's is also the local Simms dealer.Second.. The lodging. The lodge is located right on the edge of town as you're heading up river. It's location is closer to evening activities in town and the lower river. If you fish a lot in the fly zones, you might like somewhere closer to Altmar better. On the other hand if you're fishing below Pineville, it could be good for you. As far as accommodations go, it's decent. The lodge sits behind the shop and faces away from town so the noise of the highway and the lights from town don't bother so much. Also if you need to grab something before heading out, having the store there is convenient. Being close to town makes a run to grab dinner quick with lots of options.

I visit there every year for my annual steelhead and salmon trips. Could not be more pleased with their establishment. It has nice, comfortable rooms and it also is very convenient to be able to stock up on tackel in easy walking distance of the room. Can't wait to back next year!

Solid tackle shop with a great selection of fly tying materials. A bit pricier then other local shops but their selections of rods and reels are superior.

I can't believe I forgot the guy's name already, but he was on duty Tuesday afternoon. I came in with a damaged line, with a split right below the loop in the end. He was able to repair it right away, and save me from having to buy a new line. Excellent customer service!

Fabulous tackle shop. Amazing selection with very knowledgeable staff & access to great guides like Greg Liu. Very close to the DSR. Bring a treat for the ahop dog. If you break your Orvis rod, though, don't expect Whitakers to replace it for free. They will send it back to Orvis for warranty repair but you will have to pay $60 S&H.

Nice shop with a decent selection of fly tying materials. They're willing to give you the scoop on where, when and what to fish on any given day. And they have an awesome shop dog!
