What a beautiful little place. The cats have a huge little play area and can go outside. The place is very clean and organized. Dogs are well taken care of. And the staff that helped us look at Merle were super nice. Definitely recommend going there for adoptions!

I have adopted 4 cats from this shelter over the years and gave them a good home. I chose my cats on the recommendation of the "Cat Whisper" - a cleaner who knew and worked with them. Unfortunately she was fired by the "micromanager" the Board hired. I have been told that donations the shelter receives some how end up for sale at the thrift store owned by the Shelter. I WILL NOT be adopting from them anymore.

I am giving them a one star because of the way they treat their dogs. I have visited this place many times. The cats ave their own space with toys and room to walk around and be given love and attention. However when you go to the dog kennel you are met with a nasty smell. You go to see the dogs and they are all blocked off you can only see them through a window. I saw so many sweet dogs and it was heartbreaking watching them slip on their own pee. I asked if I could go and pet the dogs for a little, the non aggressive ones, they were very rude about it and said only volunteers and possibly people who fill out an adoption form can pet the dogs. This organization should not have dogs if they can’t give them a clean and happy environment to stay

Adopted a healthy puppy - 1st pick of litter. All vaccinations, neutering included in cost. Great staff. Facility appears clean. All animals have water. Minus 1 star due to the smell upon entering building. Been to many shelters but this one really smells for some reason. ? ventilation. Highly recommend filling out a form ahead of time describing the pet you are looking for: avoid impulse adoptions & competition when pups become available.

Small shelter with a lot of cats and dogs looking for loving homes. The animals are sweet and needing their own place to be loved and to share their love. The staff do a wonderful job here. Everyone is so kind and there are a lot of opportunities for volunteering.

I've adopted two wonderful cats and fostered one very sweet kitten this year with the Potsdam Humane Society. The measures taken amidst the COVID-19 pandemic have been greatly appreciated. The application is thorough to make sure the kind of pet you want to take home will be a good fit, and for those living rentals they check with the landlord that the tenant is approved to have a pet. That way they don't send a pet home with someone that will end up coming back when the landlord tells them they cant have it or worse the poor animal just let loose to the wild. They make sure all pets are fixed before adoption and microchipped to help find them should they get away from home. The new cat room and catio is great! One large room for all the cats really lets you see how they interact with other cats and you can meet them all at the same time. The adoption fees are very reasonable for all the medical procedures they do for your pet prior to adoption. The staff are very helpful in helping you find a pet that meets your home situation and lifestyle. I highly recommend the Potsdam Humane Society for anyone with a good home for pets to consider adopting from here.

My son lost is cat we were able to adopted it’s twin literally the same day. My sound found a cat identical to the one he lost best part the surrender name was PUMPKIN as was my sons original cat it was love at first sight. Our family would be a mess without the support of our loving guy pumpkin he keeps us all in great spirits. Simple cheap adoption healthy animal

I've adopted one of my dogs and my cat from there. I'm impressed since they are a no kill shelter. Their prices are amazing for everything that is done to the animal prior to adoption. Their enclosures are a decent size, they have a nice outdoor area for them to play in, which even had a little swimming pool for them to cool down. I live in Canada and it was definitely worth the drive to adopt my boys. The staff is superb and work really hard! The premises are clean and well maintained. They assess as best they can and have a pretty good sense of the animal when you ask them questions . Their websites is very detailed and show pictures and description of each dog and cat. After I adopted my dog, a few months later they were offering cats for free to approved homes. I went and brought my dog to see which cat would respond positively to him and found my new addition right away. He was neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. FOR FREE! They offered this due to being overcrowded instead of putting them down. Kudos to everyone who works and volunteers there, you guys are the greatest!! The boys have been close since the very first day. Both are wonderful with another dog I got less than a year afterwards (from a friend). Happy little family!

So we found a dog we wanted to adopted that we have been making friends with for a month, but they did everything they could to stall us from adopting. Then within 24 hours the dog magically was adopted (and its been there over a month). They obviously take special considerations. It's like they don't want any animal adopted either. Everything seems like a conspiracy there. Now when we go in there they wont even look us in the face. Looks like guilt to me.Well we can take our charity elsewhere and vote no with our money. If they don't want to help these animals and just help those they care about then so be it. It's another "Potsdam Club Members Only" sort of place. Im disgusted.

The PHS was great. It was so clean and pleasant. The women who facilitated the adoption were understanding and friendly, efficient, and obviously devoted to animals. After a couple of horrible adoption attempts at other places, adoption at Potsdam Humane Society was a joy - and so is our beautiful new-to-us dog.

Have been trying to adopt a puppy from here for over a year. They tell you to fill out a application. Then they will pull a random accepted application and that person gets to adopt the pet. Well, my co-worker has "won" three of these raffles in the last year. It pays to have friends that work at this location apparently.

They have a giant room which is like a cat playground, with many elevated sleeping bunks. Not many homes can match the environment the humane society has created there. Must be a let down for the cats when they get adopted.

Since the woman (sorry, I forgot her name) retired from there,it just isn't the same. As soon as you walk in it smells.. The dog kennels were not very clean and the dogs didn't have any water. There were several puppies maybe 3-4 months old, and for being in the front, they also needed water and were not very clean.It just doesn't seem very organized anymore

My favorite animal place, wish I could adopt them all. I have been more active there to donate in honor of a best friend that passed. Amber Noble was a critter advocate. And her obituary requested to help in any way, in her name.

Very wonderful staff! Tons of Volunteers to assist you find an animal that wants to join your family. No kill shelter, but you need to fill out an application to assure you are going to take care of an animal you are bringing home.

I have gotten both of my boys here, my oldest I got May 2011 and my youngest in October 2114 both were babies and I could not be happier with them!!! I am a truck driver so they grew up in my truck... They make me smile when I don't want to and give me soooooooooo much love, and I definitely give it back...You can definitely find a pet who will give you unconditional love like I did...twice!!!

We went there and we got a American bulldog named honey and we had a wonderful experience with the staff they fully made sure we were all comfortable with honey and that honey was comfortable with us before we left with her honey is doing great since coming home with us

Drove 150 miles and didn't get to bring home new cat. If don't have complete current records for existing pets don't bother. Our current cat lost her collar with rabies tag.

What's not to love about this place. You can go in and see all the animals. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and if you have any questions about adopting or anything else they have no problems helping out

Very dissapointed. Found a dog that was randomly dropped off and abandoned , went house to house looking for the owner but no one claimed him. Note this dog has been outside for a few hours and its only 9 degrees out. The dog was shivering for god sakes and they proceeded how they didnt want anything to do with the dog. Pretty awful they would turn a dog away in cold tempetures like this. I was flabberghasted and furious. Definetly wont be getting any more donations from me thats for sure. Truly unbelievable.
