Edit - 4 months later. I just had my first filter change. Attached is the 4 month us vs new filter. 🤔🤔🤔🤨Reading the reviews I am surprised to see negative reviews. To those who had a bad experience I suggest be patient and try Shields again. I would call the owners Kevin or Patti to discuss further.I have shopped in Shields Hardware almost weekly for over 15 years. This family owned company and crew did not stop working through the pandemic. Shields Hardware was shipping PPE to my family around the country.Due to all of our recent "certifications" in virology I decided to start cleaning my tap water. If I must filter the air outside to remain healthy I should filter the water entering my home.These photos show the before and after install of the pre-filter. The main filter will be installed to the left.What is very scary is if you zoom in on the filter glass you can see "stuff" in the water being collected 1/2 hr after installation. 🤨😲I am very happy with Shields Plumbing! This was my first experience.Suggestion, if you live on Long Island do not procrastinate on installing a house filter.

As a French boater looking to fill his French propane tanks, I must say I've been very kindly taken care of by Pattie and Kevin, the owners. They both have been of a great help as is was not that easy. But they did the job perfectly, with smile and a real sense of service. Moreover, Pattie, as an artist :-) was very gentle with my two daughters, drawing little sketches for them.Now I understand why this business is still here after more than 100 years in the same family, long life to them !

They tried to accuse my husband of stealing a propane tank. It was our tank- we were just brining it in to refill. No apologies at all once they realized they were being extremely rude. Neither of us have ever gone back and we never will. We now use the Alper’s and are pleased with the great service.

Avoid going here at all costs!!!. They completely deceived us about their pricing for BBQ cleaning services. Initially gave a quote to then try to charge twice as much. Rude and horrible customer service. Not to be trusted

The best in town IMO. Honest and helpful, resourceful and knowledgeable. Also, this is the only store that carries the most amazing & safe eucalyptus charcoal for grilling. If your priority is quality, This is the place to be. But if your go-to is big box stores with isles upon isles of mass manufactured stuff and halfhearted employees, this may not be “it”. If you want to support local, go get helped by Patty and have Jetty show you where things are!

Amazing customer service. I go here anytime I need some home improvement supplies. I’m not super handy, so I rely on the employees and they are always so helpful and go above and beyond every time. Prices are also competitive and very reasonable. Supporting a PW business is an added plus :)

As a first time propane buyer I paid a steep price for my lack of experience. Although I was warned that it's more expensive to buy a tank with no exchange, I didn't expect it would be twice as expensive as the same no-exchange full tank from the HD. Totally misleading explanation so be prepared and do your own research!

On one hand, they've got everything and have a ton of knowledge (hence 2 stars), on the other they're crazy expensive. I'm doing my best to support local businesses during this COVID-19 period, but their markup is 80% more than the price on Amazon for surgical masks and way more expensive than home depot on simple tools. Sad, because the service is good (a bit slow, but fine) and they're local.

Not to be trusted at all! found out too late they were not licensed to do plumbing in our inc village in PW when it was too late. Paid for a guaranteed water heater and had it installed by Shields. They were to reimburse us since water heater was under a warranty. We were to get the money back once the company reimbursed Shields. Well the company reimbursed Shields and WE were not reimbursed!. Its been over a year and not sure how much longer we should wait. Guess Kevin has been too busy fending off citations from Port Washington Inc Villages that he has not time to deal with his customers..ex customers We have spoken to Patty Shields and she claims she can't do anything about it.."up to the boss"...Well "the boss" has kept our money for a year and and a half now. Lousy customer service. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Horrible people!

After receiving a defective propane tank from shields (who also charge an exorbitant $34 for a full tank with an exchange of an empty) , I went back to return it and waited 10 minutes while the only person in the store talked on the phone. It was ridiculous that after being given shoddy equipment in the first place I was forced to wait to return it for another expensive gas tank. Overall very disappointed with Shields, you're better off getting a Blue Rhino from Stop and Shop where at least there is some accountability and respect.

Hands down the best customer service I've had in town ever. I got the best advice while repairing the drain pipe of the bathroom sink. The advice, not only saved me time but assured me a work around not expressed in any YouTube DIY tutorial. The women at the counter suggested various pipe fittings and tools, which all came in handy. She also confirmed my monkey wrench was the absolute wrong tool to use. I highly recommend Shields Hardware as a choice in town or for plumbing advice.

Stopped in to purchase a repair fit for a toilet expecting to have to buy the $30 - $40 kit - use one small part - a seal - and being stuck with all the other parts. The female person behind the counter looked at the picture on my cell phone and immediately knew what I needed. It turned out to be a $12.00 seal and then she proceeded to show me exactly how to install it. In fact she wasn't happy with the way I did my practice replacement in the store and made me do it again!!When I got home it took me about 3 minutes and was a complete success. Didn't have to spend $40.00 on the complete kit or $125.00 for a plumber. Thanks Shields

Unfortunately, I have lived in one of the owner's of Shield's Plumbing & Heating residential buildings the last 2 years in Port Washington.Almost every time something breaks I try and schedule for the owner or someone from Shield's to come and fix it (running sink, leaky toilet, running bathtub, replacing corroded pipes for the shower so it works again) and every time I've hired outside help because Shield's is unresponsive, slow to act and/or laughs it off like its a joke (very rude and inconsiderate).This awful attitude I've experienced being a tenant I have also seen first hand the few times I have been into Shields as a customer. In turn, I've quickly exited and gone to the better hardware store in Port Washington on Main Street.BTW it seems like all the high star ratings are fake trying to balance the real reviews that state the truth of this store and their service or lack their of.

Absolutely horrific customer service and terrible plumbing installation. They installed a toilet in our house less than 2 months ago and we woke up this morning to find the toilet leaking through our kitchen ceiling ruining our custom kitchen cabinets and crown molding. Immediately called Shields for them to tell us no one was available to come out to our house even though this was an emergency, and that they could only try and get someone out later this week to look at it, and that we could not prove it was a problem with the toilet, even after explaining it had been installed by them less than 2 months and had a puddle around it. Now frantically trying to find an emergency plumber to come in and fix it to stop further damage to our kitchen and bathroom. People in Port warned us about Shields and we should have listened. STAY AWAY.P.S. Shields: enjoy the lawsuit!

Good experience in the shop where the owners (Patty maybe) said, ‘use this 50cent washer (shower diverter washer) instead of this 30 dollar shower diverter assembly, saving is money when they didn’t have to. This is the reason why we use a local shop instead of going to Home Depot.

You got a problem with plumbing electrical or if you need a grill go to shields it's a family run business that's been in Port Washington for years that will help you if you have a plumbing problem in your house call shields if they can't get a plumber to your house they'll tell you what you might be able to do to help yourself
