I recently adopted this week. They made it very fast and efficient while still assuring that I had all the information I needed on my new part of the family. For the adoption fee, it included my pets, vaccine, spay, and microchip. I didn’t have a vet so they were able to recommend one to me. Also, it’s very obvious that they take good care of the animals they take in. Kora was well socialized there with other animals and is a sweetheart. Couldn’t have asked for a better adoption process. Great people who really love their animals.

We adopted a one year old hound/lab mix a couple of months ago! It was such an easy process & everyone at the humane society was so kind and helpful! We got a folder with all of her information! You can tell she was well taken care of there! We love our girl and appreciate the deer park humane society so much for helping us find her! I love how active they are on Facebook showing everyone the animals they have. It definitely helps them find homes!

We are very happy with our experience adopting from the Port Jervis Humane Society. From start to finish, it was a smooth process and they were very accommodating. After finding the dog we were interested in adopting and filling out an application, our references were checked and we were approved very quickly. We met our now dog and after learning some things about her from Terry, we decided she would be perfect for our family. We were going camping the next day and wouldn’t be able to take her until we came back. He said the most important thing is she goes to a good family and he would have no problem keeping her the extra couple of days past what they normally do. We were so thankful we didn’t have to change our plans and come home earlier.Since getting her, we needed the expiration dates of the vaccines she received, to board her for the day. We were able to get what the boarding facility needed in a timely manner.Thank you Port Jervis Humane Society for our new fur baby and ALL you do for the animals in need of homes and the ones who can’t find their way back home.

Can't say enough about C.C. And the team here and all they do for these wonderful animals in need. I was SUPER annoying almost contacting her EVERYDAY about adopting our baby Hazel and she was always gracious even sending us updates with pics while little Hazel was growing. If you are looking to adopt please consider PJ Humane society. Wonderful shelter. Oh and also ADOPT DON'T SHOP!

Got my Boy Jersey here a few weeks ago, He was there a long time but hes a lovey doggo to have around and he is learning to do a few new tricks he wasnt familiar with and is making me proud. I had a hard time getting a dog and long response times from just about every shelter in the region. PJ/DP HS came through and Jersey is great. 10 months I've had jersey and I just added an update winter pic of him up in Michigan.

We recently visited the Humane Society of Port Jervis in hopes to find a furry friend to add to our family. Our visit did not disappoint! We were able to make an appointment and meet our Ollie and bring him home the same day. The staff was friendly, kind, and loving. You can see why so many animals are placed in homes that fit their personalities. The adoption process was seamless and quick. We are grateful to the Humane Society for allowing us the opportunity to safely visit and adopt our new love, Ollie (Pooh)!

We adopted our 2 cats from here as kittens two and a half years ago. The staff was very thorough with the application process because they wanted to ensure a safe, secure, and loving home. Our references were checked. The staff continues to be dedicated and polite. They work day and night to do right by the animals in their care. I would highly recommend adopting from and supporting this shelter.

Great program. We applied for a specific dog, they did reference checks and called us with approval the next day. You can tell they really care. I’ve been a Veterinary Technician for 14 years and I can see they really do right by their charges. They advise against pediatric neutering, really try to find the right fit for each dog, and were really knowledgeable. Each person I spoke with was fabulous.

Just a really great bunch of people, doing AMAZING things for animals! Blacie, Terry, Erin and the crew are just the best. They thoroughly check out adopters yet don't make you jump through crazy hoops and they really do find the best homes for these animals. What impresses me the most is the care these animals get- they are walked several times daily and get time to run around in the yards. The dogs are happy and well cared for.

I found my best friend here! Kit a lovable 9 month old pup. Everyone who works there were so friendly and wonderful to the animals. Kit came neutered, shots and chipped! I recommend the Humane society of Port Jervis to everyone.

We adopted twice from PJ humane society. Out first time was a cat about 20 years ago and our second time was just this past May when we adopted our new puppy. The adoption process was so easy and Blacie and the rest of the office staff were amazing! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

This is a haven for the most precious dogs and cats. We are so happy to be part of the families that are adopting a pet here. The staff are great. They have such compassion for all of the fur babies. We found our new best friend here and cant wait for her to meet the rest of our pack...mix of humans and dogs. Thank you CC for guiding us to the perfect match.

Do you still have a rescue named Lady? I'd like to pick her up if possible. Got a safe home and another rescue she could get along with well.

We LOVE our new family member from the Port Jervis Humane Society. Adopting a rescue has been the most rewarding experience for us and for our new kitty. These animals deserve homes and I can tell from our experience they are as grateful for their new home as you are to have them there.

I followed humane society of Port Jervis in IG and applied for a dog recently. It took about 2 weeks for my application to get approved. The staff members were great at keeping in touch during the process and made sure the dog/family was a good fit. Thank you to staff members, Blacie for coordinating and sending pictures. Worth the 3 hour drive to meet our new BFF, Walter the weenie!💜

We recently adopted Sully, a Siberian Husky/ Malamute mix. He is the most loving "Gentle Giant ". He gets along so well with our other dogs & cats. He has A LOT of energy but calms down for his belly rubs....No regrets. The staff at the Humane Society were FANTASTIC...they definitely have their pets best interests when it comes to finding their forever home.

I called 3 times to inquire about adopting a dog and it was awful. First time I called I was brushed off and told to fill out the application online. Not a problem I complied and filled out the online application. Second time I called to schedule a day to meet the dogs available, but the gentleman I spoke to said I have to wait 4 days for the application to be reviewed and approved then I will be able to schedule a day to meet the dogs available. After over a week and no response I called for a 3rd time to check on the application and enthusiastically hoped I would finally be able to go meet the dogs available. But this last call literally made me cry, the "manager" was rude, didn't have my application and didn't even care to try and pull up the application accommodate accommodate many at least scheduling a day to see the dogs available. Now this made me cry because instead of being enthusiastic to get a beautiful dog a wonderful home, I was brushed off once again even after letting the manger know I would even take a young dog and have 2acres of land for him to enjoy. I wish the adoption process was executed by people diligent and cared about finding these dogs forever homes. I now find myself looking into breeders instead because this process has been so awful.

CC is the most caring, responsible person to oversee adoptions.(ours anyway). We have made two adoptions of three animals and truthfully are so impressed by their care, and the expertise and guidance given to us by the staff. Please, please give all you can or adopt from this animal haven. Everyone there cares so much.

I am shocked by the bad reviews, but we adopted 2 puppies from them over 6 years ago so maybe things have changed? Adoptions were 6 Mos apart and the staff remembered us from the pitbull we adopted when we went back to get him a friend. They were so nice to us and all of the animals in their care. I know my husband wants another dog but doesn't like that you can't go in the back anymore to see everyone and give them treats and walk them. That's probably due to insurance though. I would definitely visit them to adopt again and see what the vibe is, but I had nothing but wonderful experiences with them and we adopted two exceptional dogs that we cherish! I highly recommend the shelter based on my past experiences!

We adopted two adult yellow labradors from the Port Jervis facility in September. Like all the other dogs there, they just wanted to be part of a family. The people at the shelter were wonderful. They took good care of the dogs (and cats I am sure) to the best of their financial abilities. Anyone who dedicates their life to the care of an animal until they can be placed in a forever home should be applauded as I do the people at the Humane Society of Port Jervis.

The woman working the desk was extremely rude, we walked in she barely spoke a word to us, told her we were looking for a cat, she pointed to one in a cage then proceeded to ignore us which we assumed was because she was helping a family take home a dog. She provided us with no information, asked no questions, she mocked us and was nothing but completely rude, we would have adopted one if we had been treated better. Completely unacceptable attitude

I adopted my Princess, Siberian Husky from you 14 years ago. Your place was clean. cleanest shelter i;ve ever seen. doesn't even smell, and really, anytime you've got a load of animals in an enclosed place, you expect some sort odor, but there was none.I took Pepper for a walk, you might remember her. she was sort of depressed =from being in a shelter for a long time. people don't want black dogs. well that black dog was the most amazing animal i've ever had. she came to me clean, well groomed, not boney, spayed, chipped, and had 13 amazing years as my best friend. She was the most gentle creature God has ever made, but still treed a bear, caught a few bunnies, even did a number on a snake, a muskrat, and a groundhog. that girl was a hunter, but did it with the grace of a Princess.i lost her about a year ago to old age. the first dog i've owned that did NOT die from cancer. I came to see you when she had to leave, and found a new love there, but before i came back to adopt Charlie, (Husky Mix) something caught my eye somewhere else,You were wonderful when my Princess needed a home, that was 14 years ago, you're staff was wonderful when i came and met Charlie about 1-1/2 years ago, and i'm sure you'll be better then ever when i come back in another couple years. The negative reviews make me sick. i don't give them 50 cents worth of credibilty. i am a business owner, and find that the lower class, will vent their frustrations, and take tempter tantrums in feedback because they want to. not because it is just. They will get their friends and relatives to make malicious stories to ruin your ratings.the sad thing about people who make those ignorant reviews do it because they don;t know how to communicate or deal with a situation in a mature manner, and possibly because they are wrong, but not able to admit they are wrong. most commonly, they didn't get something they wanted and want to blame it on someone. they need to know that they can not bring themselves up by bringing someone else down.I'll be back, and i've always had good words for you. screw the bad reviewers. they do it to everyone. the words get buried in the positive and no one listens to them anymore.

If there was a negative rating, I'd leave one. One very important hint for people who read these - look at the dates people say they were "good" vs. the dates they say they were "bad". The good ones are generally referring to 6+ years ago when they had some competent leadership involved still. Here's the situation - I was the former director they had there almost 3 years ago at this point, that helped them rebuild themselves after a couple lawsuits and PR nightmares, and am also the reason they received a 6 figure grant... (you're welcome, by the way.) I should have no commitment or connection to that place anymore but, due to their utter incompetence, they never removed my email from their Google page - yay for the Board of Directors failing, yet again!I am just going to put it out here now and say that I can verify nearly all of these negative reviews, including the last one of them stealing a man's dog. This is the same incompetence in the Board of Directors, that made me resign and they still continue to treat that place as their personal ego-stroking playground. They have multiple complaints stated against them for this kind of behavior and worse, and I can verify that most of them are true. I smacked them on the wrist, so to speak, many times when they wanted me to bend the rules, reminding them what the actual laws and legal contracts they were supposed to be following said.If the community knew about and saw half the things I have, this place would be defunded, contracts cancelled and the organization would whither up and blow away.I have moved on from this place and have nothing invested in it. I have no reason to be a "disgruntled employee" and my career has moved on since then. A bad review, though, s one thing... stealing people's pets crosses a very solid, black & white line that I won't just sit around and watch them do.

This is in response to Dee Broton....so very sad your complete denial.....you keep telling yourself that you tried to contact me and that those animals were well taken care of if it helps you sleep better at night. To answer your question... I did contact another shelter for advice and I was told not to jeopardize the case and to contact the board yet again to which I did and you did NOTHING! If you want to know I stopped volunteering because it became too upsetting. Here's an idea for you...contact the other people who volunteered with me and let them tell about their experiences but I'm sure you won't. I posted this a year later because I could not believe your response to that other volunteer. One other issue I must discuss since you brought it up was the bunny I had to beg the shelter to take to the vet because he was constantly saturated in urine and constantly paced (and yes I have many pictures of him) you "supposedly" took him said they found nothing wrong...funny my vet found an infection and infestation of fur mites. If I ever find myself in a similar situation I am sure whoever is in charge will have the decency to tell the truth and do the right thing. Denial and more denial. Your shelter will never have a good reputation with a dishonest person like yourself.

CC is a saint! She went way above and beyond to support our decision to adopt a wonderful "special needs " dog, and continued to give us wise guidance after we took him home. And he is a gem.

I can't speak on the condition of the shelter or how they treat the animals. But I have now experienced what other people I know have experienced when speaking with staff (family, friends, strangers). They can be rude and have an attitude when speaking with them. Unfortunately, I would not recommend because of this. Which is a shame cause despite everyone who warned me I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

This place is full of BS! I tried to surrender a dog that was really sick. They were really rude to me that women there. They said they have no vet! I'm glad I don't donate to this organization! So, if they found a cat hit by a car they probably wouldn't stop to help it. We can't help animals anymore that it's my job to do it! Yelling at me. They had $589 million dollars few years ago and they don't have the funds to help a dog that needs to be helped! They are talking about my job. I know my dog is sick and needs help I took her to the vet. The vet said she needs to be put down and referred me to the Human Society. Which I heard has been putting down animals for no apparent reason at all according to the news!
