Yesterday 10/1/20 we took our (2) 5 month of babies to be spayed & neutered. We had an amazing experience and they are home recovering nicely. The staff was very kind & I've already referred them to my friends. They also have a on-site fully staffed animal hospital along with the van where they do the spay & neutering 💞

HVHS really stands out as a shelter. We adopted two dogs from them. You can be sure that the staff *really* cares about their animals, and at a shelter, that is obviously the most important part. They were the third shelter we visited. This shelter in particular has a commitment to security, excellence, and care for their animals. You have no doubt that the shelter is acting with the best interest of their animals in mind, and the staff will go above and beyond to connect you with a pet that's the perfect fit.

It's weird that the 2 awful reviews left here are one that didn't adopt a pet and the other from a person that wanted to haggle with a non profit. This page was just calling for a good experience.Anyways, my husband and I adopted a kitten from the Hudson Valley Humane Society while they were having an adoption event at our local PetSmart in Nanuet. What's funny is we had no intention of adopting that day as we had visited Hi Tor Animal Shelter the day earlier and were waiting to hear back about a kitten we put an application in for. We have previously adopted all of our pets from Hi Tor as it's a kill shelter and try to save as many lives as possible. For some reason Hi Tor never got back to us (the experience there wasn't a good one, the staff got into a huge argument while we were there and it was the most awkward scene ever) and when we walked into Pet Smart we saw the most beautiful Russian Blue kitten that seriously the sweetest thing in the whole world. The Humane Society staff was nothing but a pleasure to work with as i cried holding the new bundle of joy that I became instantly attached to (she reminded me very much of our late cat that we lost recently) and approved us quickly. I didn't mind the ample fee to adopt her as she was in much better condition than the Hi Tor kitten (already fixed, washed, clipped and micro-chipped) and she was incredible happy and well adjusted. we even got a care package, coupons and a carrier which we refused to go home with as we have plenty already. I am totally looking forward with working with them again and for now am swearing off High Tor.

We adopted our second kitten from here. The people who volunteer here are great and the animals are all healthy. Our newest member of the family will be coming home after being spayed. I cannot recommend any other shelter as highly as this one. It is amazing place!

This animal shelter is quite expensive. $245 for a kitten and the pricing is non negotiable so it’s aimed at a certain demographic. They affiliate with Petsmart so have a very high adoption rate thus have the luxury of being political with who they allow to adopt. In other words, don’t try to negotiate their steep pricing.I called prior to adopting to see if they had any older cats who were having a hard time finding a home, so I could adopt one of them for less than $245. I saved a kitten in the neighborhood who was pregnant with 3 kittens and neutered/vaccinated all 4 for all necessary shot series for less than $245 with a mobile vet recommended by an NYC humane society. I saved a ton of money this way and thus was able to offer them the best organic food and natural pine litter. This, to me, was not such a distasteful question especially when pet owners do such a financial service for their pets. Long story short, all the pets have the same fee. Little to my knowledge, a head representatives was ‘turned off’ I was trying to ‘get a cat for less’ and while we were finalizing an adoption for a kitten, she canceled it over a voicemail without inquiring further. She said we did not /seem/ ‘financially able’ to care for the kitten. There is a difference in choosing what you want to spend VS what you have to spend to assure your pets are well taken care of. There is more than one animal per family out there that needs a loving home, so I suggest to just neuter/vaccinate your own saved animals with more economical yet efficient options out there. Don’t feed into the business of it all.

They truly care about the animals here. It's a no kill shelter which is a plus for me. Don't expect to just stroll in and go home that day with a pet. Application needs to be filled out and referenced. Just to be safe...MAKE AN APPOINTMENT to see animals ahead of time. Annemarie was EXTREMELY helpful. She's a wonderful person with a big heart and she knows her stuff. She's an Angel for those poor rescued animals in need of a home. Plus.....there's a Vet right next door and you get a free checkup with adoption. Coupons are also given. Great place and I highly recommended.

The thrift shop is very organized and clean! Great volunteers work there, all so nice! Christin is my favorite volunteer. HUGE JEWELRY sale going on right now! One stop shopping for the holiday's and the best part is that all the proceeds go to help the animals@

We went to this place excited and ready for a new companion. We got there and met the dog we saw the last day at petsmart, where the dog was being shown. We filled out a packet of questions, and we gave them references. Okay fine. You need to check with other people to make sure. We have had a dog so they wanted us to call our vet so they could call them. A week passed, and they haven't called us up. They did not follow up on our visit at all. We called them up, but they didn't answer. They would not even call and say tell us if we could get the dog. This place excepts donations, and they don't have an adoption price. We offere them $200 because that's what we could afford. They seemed a bit annoyed about the amount of money we offered. Don't adopt here.

Unfortunately this place is terrible. You call the main number and it says mailbox is full with zero other information given. Emails submitted go unanswered. Phone numbers provided from satellite facilities go unanswered or not returned and who ultimately pays the price? Poor defenseless animals who are looking to be adopted. I strongly suggest contacting anyone who is suppling this agency with grants or funding to immediately pull the resources until a complete overhaul is done

Anne Marie, thank you. The adoption process here was amazing. They really do love their work and their pups. Thank you for the important work you do and my deepest thanks for helping us complete our family with our new adoption.

The Hudson Valley Humane Society is OPEN! This "no-kill" animal shelter is open 365 days a year 9 am to 5 pm. Volunteers and employees work tirelessly to help all animals (strays, surrenders and abused). To seek a family pet for possible adoption or to volunteer, you need to email hvhsny@optonline.net to make an appointment.

The perfect spot for all animals to come to before finding their forever homes. The love the staff gives to each animal does not compare. The society is volunteer based and all funds go to the animals' care.

My indoor outdoor cat was shot by a BB gun. I called the humane society they did NOTHING. We had to put her down and poor girl suffered so much pain. Disappointing.
