We adopted our sweet boy Adonis from here and I have nothing but good things to say about them! The amount of knowledge and care they have for the dogs is amazing! They gave us all the info they could for him and made sure we had more than enough time to bond with him and get to know him! They also made sure that we left with everything and anything we could need for him! The amount of love he was given before us was so amazing to see! If you’re looking for a pup, Elmore SPCA will make sure you are matched with the best option and will give any dog or animal all the love they can!:)

Went during hours posted on line only to find the door locked and a sign saying by appointment only. I totally understand that there is a valid reason but it should be posted online for people to see before they drive out there with high hopes

I was on plattsburgh street team relaying the trurh about a dog that was given to me in 2012 by Elmore SPCA that had tapeworms , I was taken off for telling the truth about there neglegence at Elmore and for them not taking responsobility. They only offered to take him back witch i refused as we had fallen for him. Why would i give him back knowing he was not taken care of and was not given a simple dewormer . Im glad we kept him amd gave him a forever home but never got to share my experience till now. And because of that i was removed on plattsburgh street team for the truth , so here I am on there page making sure people know and to be causcious .

I called asking for help with a rescue I saved and not even asking for their help just advice with a vet that could help even if they didn’t know a call back would have been nice.

Elmore's staff was extremely friendly and courteous. They allowed us to spend as much time visiting with the kitten we eventually adopted. We had paid several visits to Elmore before that. They spent time showing us available kittens, and let us stay in the area where kittens were being housed. We never felt pressure to adopt. I love visiting there. We could not be happier with the new addition to our family.

It smells horribly so inside...theres like no staff to help you and it was literally filled with skeezy people. If I were running the place Id be ashamed at the entrance area.

Adoption process went fine, although they do go into much more detail/contact all your references unlike most other animal shelters. Be prepared for them to contact 3 references, as well as your landlord/roommates and current or future vet. They have a very particular way of doing things at this shelter, and will tell you very bluntly if they disagree with your kind of pet parenting. This can be a little off-putting. That being said, they do a decent job of monitoring all the resident animals' health and send adopters home with a packet of info, toys, and food the pet had been eating before.Adoption prices are very reasonable, and include a free spay for puppies/kittens which you can schedule the day you adopt. My only issue was that they did not screen the kittens for ringworm (a common fungal infection similar to athlete's foot that effects their ears/head/fur). I noticed this on the kitten about 10 days after I had adopted her. I treated her with anti-fungal lotion for a couple weeks and then she was fine. Two weeks later I had similar spots show up on my arms, as well as my older cat's head. I was able to treat the spots on my arms with anti-fungal lotion but my older cat ended up having to go on a rigorous anti-bacterial and anti-fungal regimen for almost 10 weeks before the patches of her fur stopped falling out. Between the vet visit for my older cat, testing, and the three medications, I ended up spending about $400 to get rid of the ringworm in my house. This could've been easily detected by a black light, but when I called and suggested that to one of the caregivers she dismissed it entirely.

Everyone there is wonderful and they take care of the animals as if they were all their own personal pets, they very obviously care about treating the animals well and doing their very best for them. I cannot recommend them more highly if you're looking for a new addition to your family ❤️

We love Daisy! We've had Daisy for just over a year now and she has adjusted so well. She loves to be outdoors and is wonderful on hikes and in wooded spaces; always comes back after a squirrel chase. Daisy will keep a perimeter around camp and won't let other animals, like deer or bear, into our site. She is an amazing find. Thank you Elmore for linking us up with the best dog ever!

These are a great bunch of people who are clearly dedicated and rescuing and finding homes for dogs and cats. I brought them up some dogs from South Carolina but they take dogs from all over the south east United States. The last group I brought up several months ago we're rapidly adopted out and they all look very happy from their pictures on the wall.. very nice friendly people everybody should go and visit them if they're in need of a pet these people will set you up.

Very helpful. Went in to adopt a cat and they took me in right away and gave me a lot of information for all of my options. Was contacted very soon after putting in my application. The workers definitely care for every animal there and work as hard as they can to find them good homes, even the seniors.

This place is HORRIBLE. The manager her, Rebecca, NEEDS to be replaced. She is extremely condesending, rude, and is "always right". Her office lost my application and blamed it on me. She will pre-judge you and you will never get an animal. She screams at the vet offices in the area because everyone else does things wrong not her. She is good awful and needs to go. If she treats people this way I worry for the animals and feel bad for the employees. The standard for pet adoption is sorely lacking here.

This is truly the place to get your forever pet. I adopted two of mine as puppies from here. The staff are knowledgeable and kind. They work with you and help you choose the best animal for you. This is a good cause to have in the North Country.

Another failure of the spca they have two dogs turned in from the animal warden, scan the dogs chip but fail to contact the owner. Meanwhile the owners are frantically looking for there two missing dogs. After the owner finds out they have the dogs. The dogs are not released to the owners until they show proof of vacation and license. Do you know where your dog vaccine papers are on short notice.... then of course they want to charge you 40 dollars a day for keeping the dog. Maybe the dog warden could have scanned the chip too. Luckily the dogs are not harm except for the emotional kidnapping

My daughter and I instantly fell in love with a dog and did everything we were supposed to do. I was 3 months behind on my rabies for my cat already at home so I made the appt. Some reason appt. Never got put in. So when I found out I called animal hospital and instantly got in to get my cat up to date. No word today ..so we go in and I was literally called a liar to my face and that "she is a good judge of character" and she feels that the dog would not be a good fit in my home. I had perfect references, I've been a nurse for 10+ years and devoted my life to care for others.... but I'm not fit to care for a dog with kennel anxiety.???? I told her I was willing do what it takes to care for a dog with special needs. The dog would of had 24 hour care, he would not be in a kennel, and I don't appreciate being called a liar because of someone else's mistake. So no lady ....your obviously not a good judge of character. Very disappointed with this new manager.
