This place was in business from the time I arrived to Peekskill in 2000. They moved after the pandemic years, and they are still in Washington St. But some blocks down.The same owner, the same cordially the same way to do business and help customers with a lot of experience and dedication to do what they like to do.I like that they have fish for salt water and regular water. The basic to start or add new fish for your tanks.I found a cute couple in a tank, dori and Nemo were there and some other ones, they have a small quantity of types of fish and reptiles but the ones you will love to have a d I not sure you may ask and they can find you the ones you like.Also, I hear they clean and maintenence your fish tanks, so call them to ask about this.It is local, easy to park. Both sides of the streetTake a look if you are around and talk to an expert who will share with you all he knows about what he has to sell.

Not only is the owner, Z extremely professional but he's a kind and beautiful individual.I hired him to come to my business and assist with the maintenance of my saltwater aquarium and ever since we met I have been impressed with his work. He takes the time and makes sure everything that is done has been explained so I am aware of what to do etc. Very informative and honest. I trust him with the code to get in even when Noone is there. Great person for your saltwater needs for sure!

The zoo pet center has a wide array of fish and definitely has that local fish store feel to it. They were very willing to take in an overgrown pleco with no issues. The staff is always super friendly and attentive.

Found Fromm small kibble adult dog food. One of the few authorized shops that sells this brand. And I was told I could call them and they could order it for me in the future. Deceive by the outward appearance. Small pet shop; seems to be selling fish, fish food & related supplies. Never thought it would carry my dogs’ kibble, one that is really difficult to find. Pleasantly surprised.

I searched for a local, privately owned aquarium shop after deciding that I've had enough of the chain pet shops. I met the owner, Z's father ( I believe he said his name is Norman) and he was very personable. I can see that they know aquarium fish. I was happy to see that the tanks, both fresh and saltwater, were on individual filters and not a central system. This is important as different fish have different needs. Also, there is less of a chance of passing potential diseases from tank to tank. I was advised that they were lightly stocked on fish due to the current pandemic and that they would be happy to special order for me if there was something I wanted. I bought a fish and some plants and plan on visiting often as I want to support my local small businesses. For those interested, I did see that there is a section of small animals, as well.

The place is a bit of a dump not going to lie. It smells like a dying old persons house. Like it seriously stinks I am pretty tolerant of smells and it was even bothering me and my girlfriend agreed. The floor is absolutely filthy with dead leaves and dirt everywhere. It doesn’t look like the floor has been mopped in years the old man running it is nice tho. A lot of their aquariums were pretty dirty and I found several dead fish in the tanks. I still shop here because the fish prices are fantastic like 35 dollars for discus and 20 or 40 bucks for a bubble tip. Just clean up the place and fix the smell and you won’t be able to keep me out of there

I've been going to this store for over 25 years. There is a reason for that. Z and staff are extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the hobby. The level of service you receive here is above and beyond anything you will get at any other pet store. Everything is well cared for and the selection is superb. If you don't see it, they will order or try to get it for you. Fantastic place.

Z owns the Zoo pet shop. He knows his stuff and cares about what he's doing. Great place to visit and shop for that new pet. I forgot to mention he will go to your place if you need assistance with your tanks/fish. Guess you could say he's the 'Fish Doctor'.

I been going to zoo pets for over 10 years my lizards food from there is amazing the owner and his dad are awesome always friendly and they go out there way for me all the time z keep up the great job my lizard says hello and love your food

This place was extremely dissapointing. I'm not sure why it has so many good reviews...While the staff memeber was very friendly, I left feeling disheartened and concerned with the treatment of the animals.When you walk in it is extremely smelly (More so than pet stores usually are). The store and the animal's enclosures are filthy. Most of the selection is aquarium. The saltwater looked cleaner (I use the word loosely) than the other tanks which might be reason for almost 5 star rating. I still wouldn't buy anything from there. I am more of a reptile person. When I went to the back area, the bearded dragon that was for sale was lethargic, looked ill, and didn't have anything in his tank. There were several turtles in a 10 gallon tank with no light. It looked like they were stacked up on top of one another for warmth and the one at the bottom looked dead. There were a million birds held in small cages.I would not suggest buying ANYTHING from here. I have never seen such an awful pet store. I feel so bad that the animals appear to be suffering in these conditions.

My experience(s) at the Zoo Pet Center have been consistently positive. The owner is very friendly, professional and "willing to go the extra mile" In order to provide quality service for customers. In the age of virtual shopping via the internet or franchise pet stores, it is Incumbent upon me to support the small businesses i.e., mom and pop pet stores that historically have spawned Petsmart, Petco and the almost defunct Petland franchises among others. I ordered some T5 HO light fixtures and purchased some unusual hybrid platies..
