We had the mussels, scallops, a “gourmet burger” and some deserts. The mussels were very fishy and the sauce was extremely watery, the scallops themselves were good but everything else about the scallops dish was awful. I mean straight up ground corn with lettuce, tomato and scallops? I don’t think so. And don’t even get me started on the burger, just shy of $30, the “gourmet” burger gets you a white hamburger roll which could be sourced from any cheap grocery store, a normal tasting beef patty, a few onions, with some bacon on top, which was all EXTREMELY oily by the way. It also came with maybe 1/2 a medium potatoes worth of mashed potatoes, and some lettuce on the plate. I’ve legit had better burgers for $10, so $30? C’com…. But it isn’t all bad the view and setting is really quite nice, and the waters were very friendly and helpful. I get it’s a small town type place but that is no excuse for the prices they’re charging for what you’re getting.

Their rocket fuel drink looked good on picture but it wasn't that impressive. We had the lobster bisque bowl and the fried calamari as appetizers. Quite frankly I wouldn't recommend either of them. Definitely recommend the catch of the day, fresh fish served on a bed of lettuce and other vegetables. Service was outstanding!

They’ve continued to make improvements to the Mermaid and it shows. Now they have a permanent outdoor tent that would be great for inclement weather. Service also improved with prompt seating from our reservation (a must in the summer) and immediate waters and server attention. The food also seems to have notched up over the last year (I enjoyed the flounder which was perfectly prepared and flavorful.I was bummed they’re were out of their house made spicy tequila, but the watermelon margarita was still excellent. My wife thought scallops were great!Make sure you come during sunset for the full experience.

Not good. Service was slower and slower the more time we spent. Waited more than 30 minutes to have the food. And the food was not good. The fried flounder was 'smashed' between 2 buns. The Teriyaki chicken was too fried and really few pieces of chicken - taste was not good.There are better place than this one. And also too expensive...

Beware!!! There is a service charge. The manager literally came over to our table and had to ask us to tip more even thou we paid already plus tip. It’s so rude. If you need to pay your staff more include it in the price. The audacity to come over to our table and ask for more money is so cheap and low brow. If you need a certain pay include it in the price of the meal!My family, friends, and neighbors will never be going back to this place.

$200 for a terrible dinner. Our food came out literally less than 10 mins from ordering, my fish was cold and friends food was barely warm. We assume that the plates are pre-made and then microwaved. Small portions for the price. My friend ordered wine and said it tasted so dry and no bubbles (we saw the receipt and she realized server brought a different wine than she ordered). Lots of people at the bar so it’s pretty noisy unless you get lucky and get seated closer to the water. Other food options on Fire Island are cheaper and better!!

Had (still having as I’m sitting dockside) an amazing meal. Wonderful food and service. Very kid friendly. Attentive and caring staff. Mussels and steamers were hot, fresh and delicious. Kids menu was amazing I had to taste it myself LOL! 10/10 Highly recommended.Kid-friendliness: Absolutely kid friendly

My family and I come to this place 2-3 times a year. Not sure what transpired this year, but the manager needs some serious refresher training. When our food didn't come out after 48 minutes, I asked to speak with the manager. (The waiter was very nice and this is totally not his fault at all. He was well tipped afterwards). This fella (manager) shows up and tells me its my fault, since we ordered an appetizer. He storms off the table, to return 15 minutes later with our food. I then tried speaking with the manager, outside the table, and he continues to tell me that I am wrong. He gave me an excuse that the chef had to be taken to the hospital on an emergency, that's why our food was delayed. What a lame excuse. I never cursed or raised my voice, but this manager needs to be trained on people skills. Or, better yet, find a job in another industry.Beer was served warm, and yes, I drank both since I was thirsty. Appetizers were undercooked and not eaten. Simple hamburgers that took an hour to arrive were below standards, and the catch of the day sandwich was out of a box. We arrived at 1:30 PM on a Wednesday, not too busy at all. Sad. Hopefully the owners of this place will read this and replace this useless manager.

Five star rating for food! Had the scallop dish, so fabulous. The only downside was the condition of the ladies room. Pretty gross for such an establishment. Our waiter was super nice, and the owner greeted us as well. A great place for really good food and beautiful views.

I dined here on Saturday evening this past weekend, which was the last weekend before Memorial Day. I was ecstatic to see such a lively and trendy crowd.This popular waterfront restaurant draws many “South Beach-types” who dock their yachts 🛥 on the restaurant’s marina, which is locatedon the Great South Bay.The après-beach crowd come here to dine, drink and dance 🕺 the night away. VAX cards are required for those who want to groove on the dance floor, according to the Instagram page #IslandMermaidOB”.Everybody is so fun, friendly and unpretentious in this Fire Island melting pot.The eclectic menu has everything from “crab and shrimp bisque soup” to “organic skirt steak with chimichurri sauce”. The uber-fluffy key lime pie is a must try!Locals say they come here especially for the addicting “Rocket Fuel”— a tantalizing cocktail 🍹 created many years ago by some Fire Island bartenders.Future brides and grooms hold their bachelor/bachelorette parties here.Lots of romantic couples gaze at the picturesque sunset 🌅 , so be sure to get a seat before sundown. Reservations are strongly suggested!The jovial owner Scotty, management and waitstaff deliver splendid customer service. This place is very overcrowded in the evening, so you’d better make a reservation before visiting if you want to have a table with a good view. Nevertheless, food and drinks are good. We enjoyed our lobster and beet salad a lot.

Scott, the owner, took such care of us and all the food was lovely. The bus boy was conversant and conscientious. We loved our server Victoria! She was the BEST! Eating on the deck and the music was fun. The kale salad w homemade Gorgonzola dressing was delicious and a good portion, which was important to us. The crab cake appetizer was delicious. The other 2 special entrees we ordered were smaller than expected.. The calamari was cooked to perfection. Thank you for a great evening !

Island Mermaid is a great place for waterfront dining, especially when it’s not too busy. We had a light lunch of crab bisque, a spinach and goat cheese salad with shrimp, and the Mezza Plate with hummus, tzitziki and roasted veggies. All were delicious and the service was fast and friendly. A must stop for Fire Island!

Much like a lot of the expensive food on FI it lacks all taste. The golden beet salad had no flavor which just says that the beets were either sat there precooked or made using low grade seasoning like cheap oil. The tuna tartar was ok, the avocado was better but somehow still not delicious. The chips that came with it were so salty it was inedible. The recommended flounder was better because it was fresh not frozen.Our group ordered 6 different cocktails and they were all pretty bad. The delightful peppy rocket fuel that floats all over Jones Beach and Tobay was watered down frozen slosh here. All the drinks are watered down. We appreciate the restaurant keeping us hydrated but why like this? For the price point I would highly unrecommend. The staff are fine, facilities good enough but I'll never go back.

Two weeks after labor day we wandered in. Great place. Staff is friendly and helpful. Owner is hands on and cares . Stopped by all tables to say hello. Service was very good considering after labor day staff usually moves on.We had the la Frieda burger .cooked to perfection .one of the best burgers ever .Calamari was excellent.Highly recommend coming here.W

Went there after a day at the beach and was pleasantly surprised with the ambience. Unfortunately food quality was less than desirable; 2 lobster rolls were returned along with an order of less-than-half opened mussels. None of it was taken off the bill. My meal was some corn soup which was absolutely lacking in flavor. Will never go back. Server was otherwise very nice. It seems to be one of those places where you pay for the scenery and not the quality of food.Update : after reading other reviews, I am guessing our review regarding our poor experience at this establishment will go without a reply. The island mermaid management only seem to reply to positive comments.

The besting is the view of the Restaurant and the live music. We had lobster rolls but my friends daughter threw up after she came home. I had better lobster roll else where that was much more delicious. Our salad with shrimp had hair on it. Customer service needs to be improved. I hope they improve themselves. Prices are high but in my opinion not worth it.
