I recently had the opportunity to stay at Bluewaters that left a positive impression on me. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly and accommodating staff who made me feel welcome throughout my stay. One of the standout features of this hotel is its excellent location. Situated right in the center of town, within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and the beach. Whether I was in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely shopping spree, everything I needed was conveniently close by.Upon entering my room, I was pleased to find a clean and well-maintained space. The housekeeping staff did an exceptional job in ensuring that the room was spotless and comfortable. The hotel also offered a range of amenities that enhanced my stay. Free beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, and free use of bikes are a definite added bonus.Throughout my stay, the staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure my needs were met. They were always available to answer any questions or provide recommendations, making me feel valued as a guest- Thank you Harvey!

We stayed at the captains quarters for a bachelorette party, and it was fine! When booking here you have to remember that this is fire island, so you can’t expect luxury. The beds are not comfortable and rather small. It was clean, and perfect for our group! We loved that for a small fee we had groceries and alcohol waiting for us upon arrival. It was quiet, spacious, we had a full kitchen and a private back patio! I would recommend for a group looking for a getaway on a budget.

This place is taking advantage of people wanting to visit fire island. I was misled and lied to by Elaine and other staff members at the hotel while booking a weekend at there Beach House from having extra beds available to not having adequate dishware and silverware to support not even 4-6 people. They weren’t accommodating at all they wouldn’t except anything but cash for the $3500 bill. We were a couple hundred dollars short they wouldn’t even let us put it on the credit card. The only thing they allowed to put on the credit card was the thousand dollar security deposit for a service dog that we had with us.To top it all off after all the problems we had they ended up keeping $150 because there was some dog hair on one of the flat sheets. This place is a joke stay elsewhere save yourself the aggravation!!!!

Cute, small, cozy hotel. Provides breakfast, clean rooms and clean bathrooms. Lets you leave your stuff there in the lobby day of check out so you can go enjoy the island. Staff is nice and there is a store right downstairs connected to the hotel. Resort is right in town close to everything and also right in front of the ferry dock.

We had a great weekend at the Blue Waters Hotel. The room was clean and the staff were very accommodating - went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The outdoor deck was a beautiful spot to have a glass of wine, and read a book. Breakfast (served on the deck) was fabulous. So many choices and everything was delicious. We were provided with beach towels and chairs which made packing for the weekend much easier. The location was perfect - a very short walk from the ferry and on the main path of restaurants and shopping. I highly recommend the Blue Waters Hotel if you are planning a trip to Ocean Beach!

Very small rooms very expensive 3 in one small room we were charged 113 separately, air conditioning made so much noise we couldn't turn in on at night. Never again visiting fire island, the only good thing was breakfast, going south with my family, using my money wisely. Told my friends not to travel there it's a money ripper. I regret staying 2 night second room was worse than the first no screens on the window. Mosquitoes bites all night. Air conditioning was very loud again could not put it on. Please don't stay here go somewhere else not worth it at all. Good luck if you do. Take mosquito spray.

Short distance from the ferry and to all the best restaurants, clean and comfy rooms, great and friendly staff, and the owner was very accommodating. They provided delicious breakfast daily. Love the outdoor deck.

My boyfriend, Kevin & I had made a reservation at The Blue Waters Hotel in Ocean Beach this past Saturday night. He is a United States Sailor who has just returned from a 6 month deployment. Upon checking in & after our payment for the room had been processed, the hotel manager, Brenda, stepped in. She asked our ages (21 & 22) then explained the age policy of being 25 years old to rent a room. I told her the reason for our stay & she asked to meet Kevin, who was out front with our bags & cooler. He came in and politely asked what was going on with the room as we were unaware of this restriction at the time of booking. She assessed us both and said she couldn't allow us to stay there because we did not meet their minimum age requirement. Kevin offered his credit card as additional security and assured her we would not cause any trouble & were just looking for a getaway to reconnect after being apart so long as a result of the deployment. She told us that although she sympathized, she could not go against hotel policy and allow us to stay. My mom, who has been a patron at the hotel for years, called and explained that he was just home for a short while & would pay double the price to allow us to stay the night. Brenda said this an Ocean Beach law and not for her to decide. My mom requested a refund for the room since we were not allowed to stay, but was rudely hung up on. (A former employee later reached out to my mom to tell her that age exceptions are made at the management's discretion. She actually quit because that was not the decision this time. She was disgusted by how this was handled) My mom then called the Ocean Beach Police Department to see if this truly was a law. The dispatcher assured my mom it was not a law, but a hotel policy. At my mom's request, a police officer went to the hotel to speak to Brenda on our behalf. She still refused to make an exception for us. She did agree to refund us our money at the officers request. The officer was appalled at her lack of respect for someone serving our country & suggested we make this known on social media as well as contact the Better Business Bureau to share our experience. If you disagree with the mistreatment of a military memeber who risked his life for the past 6 months to come home & be treated so poorly, please boycott this hotel. There are several other hotels on the island who were shocked by this & would have loved to offer us a room if they were not fully booked since it was a last minute request on a busy summer weekend.

A few weeks ago my wife a I spent almost a week at Blue Waters Hotel and cannot wait to go back again. The rooms were clean and comfortable ,the 2nd fl outdoor lounge area was fantastic and the complementary breakfast very satisfying. The general manager (Alex) was extremely attentive and the women at the front desk friendly and helpful. The quality here matches the other high priced hotels in the area for a fraction of the price . A keeper ..... Joe Famighetti

Best hotel I’ve been to on ocean beach honestly love the owners and the vibe the rooftop is beautiful with all of the flowers while you eat breakfast very well kept and up to par. Alex is an outstanding front desk guy with phenomenal customer service I love this hotel. By far the most humble people will continue to go back every time no doubt!!!

Update: (6/20/17)The wedding I attended while on Fire Island was incredible – amazing food/band/service – couldn’t say enough to do it justice.I didn’t mention it in my initial review because it was irrelevant to my experience at this hotel. The fact that, in their response to my review, the owner felt compelled to invoke the fact that I was attending a wedding in order to imply that I indicated I had a negative experience at said wedding (probably in the hopes I would take my review down) is very questionable. The claim that Blue Waters Hotel was called the “gem of Fire Island” by the NY Times is also fallacious – it was The Seasons Bed and Breakfast that got the nice little write-up over twenty years ago. Furthermore, when you use quotes like that, it’s meant to convey that those words were actually written, in that order. What was in fact written in the 1996 NY Times article was: “We were taken with one little gem: The Seasons Bed and Breakfast on Dehnhoff Walk... Otherwise, it seemed, the pickings in Ocean Beach were slim: isolated rooms or the occasional rooming house with barrackslike accommodations and little privacy or little sanitation or neither." The latter portion of that quote would be describing the Blue Waters Hotel./updateDo not stay here -- get an Airbnb, even if it's more expensive (which it won't be if you have three or more people contributing). You are paying over $200/night to stay in a room that makes the Lincoln Tunnel Motel seem spacious and luxurious. And beware of the MANDATORY $10 CASH GRATUITY when you check in. I wonder if the IRS is aware of this practice...The lady at the desk didn't seem very happy when I made her write out a receipt for this preposterous "cover charge". I ruminated over it for a while and realized that all the Managers are doing with this practice is divesting their actually-working staff of departing tips they otherwise would have received, had unwitting occupants not been robbed of ten-dollars cash from the get-go (I don't mean to imply that there was any cleaning service -- there wasn't).I guess I didn't hide my disgust at their blatant and shameless cash-grab, since I was put in Room 21...At 6AM the following morning, I awoke to some very loud thumping on the wall adjacent to the headboard of my bed. I was extremely tired and hungover, so I tried to sleep in. After ninety sleepless and progressively angry minutes, I stormed out of my room to round the corner and realize I shared a paper-thin wall with the working station of the hotel's "kitchen". When I asked the lady in charge of making the food to not bang every dish, pot, pan, and portable appliance at her disposal against the wall, she just shook her head - someone then informed me that she didn't understand English. So I said to her, "disculpame, pero me cuarto esta al lado de su cocina y yo tengo mucho sueno". She then became very apologetic, but the damage was done -- I was cranky all day. After all that, I became used to the very small, two-night-mandatory, half-the-cost-paid-at-the-time-of-reservation, single-window, moldy-smelling room that only contained one queen-sized bed and two small nightstands (NOT EVEN A CHAIR).I was just grateful that we were given soap, towels, and an air conditioner at this point. And it turned out we were lucky -- our friend in Room 16 had absolutely no hot water. On the second morning, I was not awoken by culinary thumping until about 8AM or so, which was fine since I had a ferry to catch to get far away from this place. Breakfast was exactly the same as the day before (not bad truthfully - cheesy eggs, cheesy scalloped potatoes, and cornbread). But I would sooner rent a buoy to cling to overnight in the Great South Bay before I would ever stay at this third-rate, price-gouging, flophouse again.I've attached my receipt for the TEN-DOLLAR MANDATORY CASH GRATUITY AT CHECK-IN to this review, just in case you don't believe me.

Very expensive for a very small room. We went there on a very hot summer's weekend. The AC was making a large rattling sound all night, impossible to sleep. We reported the problem, they said they fixed it. When we came back to sleep the following night, it wasnt rattling but now it would only come on for a few minutes then went off unless you kept getting up to reset it all night long. Stay away from this place! I read previous reviews before I made a reservation here but thought it was just those people who complain about everything, but they were right. There are several other places to get a room that delivers what it advertises.

If I could give zero stars I would, here's why. Booked the larger apartment back in March for 2 families of four and due to their antiquadated system, they double booked the same apartment which we found out upon check-in. Since the guests were already checked in to that apartment and were staying longer they refused to move them. They offered us the smaller apartment with a slight discount I had to beg the owner Harvey for or our deposit back which would have meant we packed up for no reason and would have nowhere to stay. Although we had very disappointed children with tears running down their faces we chose to take the smaller apartment with 2 cots in living room, 2 twin beds in one room and 1 queen in the other. Luckily our husbands were only visiting us for dinner each night or they'd be sleeping on the beach. The cots were awful, my back went out the next morning from one that dipped right in the middle from broken springs. I had to go buy aleeve the next morning for the pain. Walked over to the office to request this cot be swapped out and the young lady said so sorry and called in my request to who I'll never know. Ran into the maintenance worker during the day and I asked if he was bringing the new cot and he said there were no others, we had the only 2. Figured oh well just another problem here. I was in town with my kids that night, saw the same maintenance worker who refused to give me his name wheeling a cot down the block and I said, yay, thank you, you found 1. He said no, this is for another guest. My jaw dropped. I said you lied to me earlier when you said there were no others. I was fuming but I had no other options but to sleep on the couch next to my 8 year old on the other cot. Yes, you leave a gratuity at check in but it should be at check out so they actually clean it for you. All the beds were sandy when we got there, floors sandy, bathroom shower sandy, bugs flying around. I would rather pay more money and rent privately through a homeowner that actually wants you to enjoy the full Ocean Beach experience. Not just a place that says kids are resilient. Ours were so disappointed and cried each night at bedtime. Ugh, what an awful experience staying there. So no, I will never recommend staying here. We are sorry they got paid at all.
