The range of fish here is unmatched in upstate. I give it only 4 stars because I don't think any quarantine happens on new fish so you need to be thoughtful when you buy. Dry goods and foods section is very good. I have seen comments about the staff here, keep in mind they are extremely busy because this really is the biggest aquarium store for quite a ways and is busy all day. Talk to them a little about how they are doing and show you care while they go to get your fish and you will find them very easy to work with. If you are looking for rare fish stop by, even if they don't have the one you want you will see cool fish.

You will not find a better fish store in WNY. Not even close. They have a wonderful variety with new fish and plants at least weekly if not daily. If you need a tank come here first. Food, supplies, everything. With that said this place seriously rocks and the staff sure know their stuff. They give you undivided attention when it's your turn. Do not mistake rudeness from focused attention to the customer being served. This place is wonderful to hang out for a hour searching for that new fish or plant. Oh and bring the kids! Great place for a Saturday afternoon adventure. And when you turn kids on to aquariums it can become a lifetime hobby, I'm 65 and hobbies in retirement are important.

What an impressive store for all fish lovers! The tanks were all stocked and CLEAN! The employees were knowledgeable & friendly. My only disappointment and kind of a bummer considering I traveled over an hour hoping to see was the large fish tank the was to have housed (so I had heard) some pretty and awesome large fish was EMPTY! I asked how long it had been down they replied, "over a year". I was disappointed to say the least. Other than that it's a great supply shop for fish and supplies. I would make that trip again for sure!

This is a great place. We have had a really awful time integrating new fish into a community with the most alpha African Cichlid that may be part shark lol. We were helped by such a knowledgeable young man (we didn’t get his name) that gave great insights on which fishes would suit Bluey (alpha) and proper care with our situation. The setup is amazing in store, with healthy well taken care of fish. All of our new tank mates and thriving which speaks volumes to how they are treated! Will be back.

This place has lots of cool fish with a great variety. However, the staff is completely miserable. One person in particular. Horrible to deal with and even made some rude, unnecessary comments. I don't care if you're having a bad day, that's not how you deal with customers. ESPECIALLY animals. Was even very harsh when handling the fish. I'd never want someone like that to work with living creatures. The fish are cool but the customer service is not worth it. Will definitely go elsewhere next time.

Excellent fish selection. Honestly they are the only local fish store that is actually worth going to. My main issue is their customer service by what I want to say the owner and manager. They always seem bothered by questions. I witnessed the one manager or owner bash a customer because he had alot of questions but didn't buy any fish just some accessories due to not feeling confident that he could provide the fish with a good home.

Unfortunately my tank cracked, so I came here for a new one. I also inquired about possibly getting some established filter media since I now have to restart everything. I understand this is a courtesy but the man who answered was so incredibly condescending. Because of all the reviews and being a long-time business, I was a bit underwhelmed. They had very few options. I also wanted to look at plants, but I couldn’t find any. I imagine this is a good destination for fancier fish and saltwater aquariums. I will say the prices on SOME things and the music playing was good but unless you need something incredibly specific or are a large hobbyist, you’d be fine going to a normal pet store.

Good customer service, fun to just be inside the store observing. In the photos you will see the purchases I've made from this store and my resulting setup. Tetra tank is about 5 years old. Guppy tank about 3 weeks old.

10/10 5/5 100/100. Can’t say enough good things about this location. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable.I see random reviews stating random acts of disrespect etc. I have never encountered that ever in my 20 years of patronage.I can imagine that during the busiest hours, some people aren’t getting the 1on1 time for personal questions as you are usually able to receive when there at a slower time.With that said I can’t recommend this business enough for all your aquarium needs.

My favorite fish store ever! So great that I’m typically there every weekend! Huge selection of healthy fish, plants, aquariums, stands, foods and everything else you need to feed your aquatic addiction or just to get started. Very good prices too!

My husband has been a patron here far longer than I have, but we both enjoy making the hour drive to come here for the freshwater fish. The owner is quite knowledgeable and full of tips and advice, which I personally appreciate. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable as well. We certainly will be returning customers.

Had a great visit to The Fish Place today. Katy helped me and she was awesome. As an intermediate planted tank aquarist I had several questions about water chemistry, as well as fish and snail species selection. She was able to answer all my questions and we had a great chat. Will definitely be returning.

I drove here all the way from Salamanca because I heard this is the place to go for anything saltwater. Not only was I unimpressed by the state of the shop, I sat and watched the manager ridicule a woman just for asking a question. This turned me off to ever doing business here. I don’t care what kind of product you’re selling, you have no right to belittle and bully anyone (especially a woman) just because you hate your job. In any hobby, there are going to be people who know less than you and people who know more than you all at different levels. No need to belittle those who know less just ask I assume you’d hope those who know more than you don’t belittle you. VERY TOXIC!

The staff is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Staff has moved up to become owners there is always a familiar face when you go to visit. The fish are gorgeous and well maintained and sold for a fair price for their species. The place is maintained extremely well and it's a comfortable environment when you walk through the door. No one tries to pressure you into purchases that you may not be able to afford or want.

(Who I assume is the owner) talks down to you if you try to ask questions or seek recommendations on fish to keep if you are just starting the hobby. I asked what I thought was a fair question about what kind of upkeep a certain tank and fish pair would require and was met with snarky comments about what I asked instead of an answer. Don’t come here unless you know everything about every single fish in the store already. All the other employees seemed chill though. Just the old guy was a pretentious prick.

We love the fish store, my family has been visiting since I was a young child and we continued to go every year. To get fish, food, tank decorations, and/or water plants. Even if you aren't in the market for new fish, it is still so fun to go and look at all the different fish and aquatic life. Of course patronizing it encouraged too.

I came into the store today as my wife has been wanting to start a salt water fish tank for a long time. Today she finally said let's do it! We went to the location to scope out potential product we would need and potential fish we would like to purchase. I ask an employee with green hair questions about starting a tank. She was extremely helpful boasting that she had several salt water tanks and gave me the run down on what we would need to start. We left after that to contemplate how we would get all water and supplies home. So we worked out a way to transport water and all supplies we had planned to buy and headed to the store. I approached a young woman in a pink tank top, tall with glasses. Right off the bat after explaining what we would like to do and asking where to start she immediately had attitude and talked to me as if I was a toddler. I was patient and letting her lead with how to start the tank we wanted to start. I was questioned why I had buckets to which I replied to bring the water to my vehicle to fill my receptical we brought. That wasn't enough for her as she proceeded to question me more. I didn't mind much as it doesn't matter how I get the job done, it will get done. Then she says she will not sell myself a fish until our tank is ready I said okay let me inform my wife as she may want to hold off on the whole process until we are more prepared. I left the store to inform her, she agreed we could start the tank then return later. I entered the store again ready to purchase the water and salt. I was informed by the previous employee with green hair that I could use a filter to circulate the tank and dissolve the salt. Maybe that was incorrect of her to say, but from my understanding this was okay. As I returned in the tall employed wrote out a list of things she said I would need. On that list was a pump of sorts to circulate the tank, I asked do I really need that? As I was told earlier it wouldn't need it. She the looked at me and in a condescending voice with audible attitude stating " yeah what are you going to do stand there and stir it all night". I was upset by her tone and voice and attitude, so I said I'll take my business else where thank you any how, and left with haste. Very disappointed I remember coming here as a child and people were respectful to those who don't have the knowledge. When did we lose the ability to ask questions? Any how don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. Sorry bert and Ernie, good luck to you I have she isn't handling your living space.

Finally re-established my tank after the blizzard in 2022, such a nice large store and very well maintained. Staff are incredibly personable and experienced! They have a large selection of not only fish but also invertebrates and plants. Additionally they have a large selection of equipment, tanks, stands, anything you could need. Certainly the best aquarium store in buffalo!

Always a pleasure. Bought our tank from there and they were very helpful. Have always bought fish from them since. Also, at one point a few months ago our tank started to seep a little water, I called and they set up a replacement for free and took care of the warranty stuff for us. Amazing business. Always busy as well because they are the goat!

There were dead fish in the filthy fish tanks, it was hot also a foul odor I assumed was coming from the cry baby Jake (the owner) the man lacks serious personal hygiene and doesn’t stop complaining, constant sob story from the minute you walk in. This was my first time here and will be the last due to the squall and rude employees. Please save your time and money.
