i had a terrible experience when i went to buy paint. i asked the person at the paint counter what he would recommend and he was extremely condescending and made me very uncomfortable, as he asked about my age and told me he would know if i was lying to him about "throwing parties" in the room i was painting. i am a younger woman and simply needed a recommendation on what type of paint to get. overall a very uncomfortable and weird interaction, and i will not be going back.

This place is what a small town hardware store should be. It has an amazing selection of fasteners, and a great staff that knows what they are talking about. It's been a great resource for us in this town.We have noticed however that in the last year or so that the staff seems different, like there are problems on the home front?The manager is short, cold, and down right mean at times. Bad day? What happened?The staff openly talks about the tension from the "boss", and they all seem on edge and upset.It's weird because three years ago it was a well oiled machine, now everyone seems ready to jump out the window and into oncoming traffic...???Hope it's something easily fixed because this was a great store.

Kind of just had it with true value at this point. I needed assistance and there was no one around. I finally got a young man to help me and he was rude beyond comparison. It was obvious that helping me was a great imposition on his time at the cash register. I asked him if he had a larger screw than the one I was looking for. He looked at me kind of discuss it and said no we don’t have anything larger and then said thank you and walked off back to the cashier. The entire interaction lasted all 10 seconds. And, it began when he asked in a tone of voice and suggested he was fed up with me “ So, you want someone to come help you?”It’s off to Lowe’s for me!

My partner did me a favor and picked up some items for me. I had to exchange something bc it was the wrong size. I had the receipt, but couldn't exchange without his credit card!!! RIDICULOUS. Their staff is nice but I can't support a place with such a stupid policy. I made a special trip there and it was a waste of my time. P.s. each location is independently owned, so you cant return anything to any other true value either.

Need (6) M12x1.75 flange bolts. Stopped at Becks wallkill they only had 3 so they called New Paltz location and they had 3 as well. Wallkill charged me $6.49 each, new paltz charged me $7.49 each. Crazy a dollar more

Here you will find a great hardware store with old-fashioned service. I had a couple of issues with my sump pump, brought it in and Lou in plumbing fixed it for me--for just the cost of parts. I can't recommend them enough! Go here and you'll never want to go to one of those big box stores again!

Stopped at Lowes to get color match for outside deck. No expert to help, went to True Value and right away got the perfect match. Salesman was very helpful and friendly. Definitely the go to for me. For expert advice and personel help True Value is a True Value.

Look, this is a hardware store. An actual hardware store where people know what the hell they're talking about. They're not going to beat all the prices at Lowe's, but you're going to feel a lot less better about yourself for shopping at a store owned by a person who lives in the community, who has paid the same staff for decades.

TrueValue NP comes through again. We've been renting heavy equipment with TV several times now. The equipment arrives on-time and in good repair. Lou does a great job making sure we know how to use it safely. We've saved heaps by doing the work ourselves, and we'll keep using TV! Thanks!

I have been a familiar face to True Value Hardware in New Paltz since the year 2000, and a few months ago I had went over to True Value to rent a Floor Sander early in the morning, my partner who was suppose to produce a credit card over the phone was unreachable, so I had spoke with the owner, and I said, " can you rent me the sander, and I will leave you an open check, licence and my phone number so I can get where I need to be early in my day, and in the ten o;clock hour, I will call you with the credit card number.The owner replied, ah," well that sounds too shady, I can not do that, sorry"..The owner makes it very difficult for me to patronize his business especially when I have been a longtime customer, he could have accommodated me when I was in need especially knowing I have made many purchases there before..

The staff at New Paltz True Value are incredibly helpful. They take time with customers to make sure that they give them good and clear advice. Going to New Paltz True Value is like going to an old friend, honest, knowledgable, friendly and caring. Actually it is better than going to an old friend, most of my friends are not that knowledgable.
