We decided to take our three year old daughter to go look at fish to decide what she would like to get. We were beside ourselves to see one tank full of dead fish that were stuck in the filter, the water was dirty and disgusting. The filter was full of them and they had all lost their color. While walking back up towards the front of the store, we found quite a few fish tanks with dead fish at the bottom. They clearly do not maintain them.When I walked up to the front of the store to find FOUR people huddled and chatting at the counter, they looked at me like I was crazy for thinking that this was a problem. I will never purchase anything from here. This place should be shut down. It worries me for the other animals in the store. They are clearly too busy chatting and hanging out and not taking care of anything. It was heartbreaking.

This is not a good pet store. The employees are friendly enough and offer to help but I wouldn't willing choose to support this store. Prices are what you would expect from a local store ... kind of expensive. Selection is also limited since it's a fairly small store and they try to fit a bit of everything. If all they were trying to sell were pet supplies, food, equipment, etc., I would have no problem supporting this store, but where they fail miserably is with the live animals they keep. You would think that in NYC, where the ASPCA has an actual police force, places like this and US Pets on Steinway, would get shut down.The animals kept here look sad and exist (they aren't living a life in these conditions) in poor conditions. Birds, small mammals and reptiles are kept in small cages that were dirty. The bird cages were covered in feces! The fish tanks in this place are disgusting. Dead and diseased fish litter the tanks and they all have multiple forms of algae growing in them that have been there for a long, long time. It's obvious there is no real care given to the animals here and that is the biggest strike against any pet store that decides to carry live animals.Do not buy your pets here. Do not support this business. Buy your supplies online and either adopt/rescue your pets or only buy from a store/person who truly cares for animals. Avoid petland!

I wish I could buy fish from this place, but every time I go there are tanks of dead and/or blatantly diseased fish. I went yesterday hoping to buy some snails but left when their goldfish tank had a large beautiful fish that was floating around dead with the other goldfish feeding on it. They also keep a cat in a BIRD CAGE. It’s been there forever, and is clearly not going to find a forever home from this store. They should give it to a rescue to rehome - the poor cat is always asleep because it has no room to do any other cat behaviors. This store is just so sad.

Took a walk around the store and saw dirty tanks and theres not ventilation in the store. The people that work there were not welcoming either because they were all mobbing at the register hanging out. When i go up with the products they lady didnt step aside as she was crouching over the counter like its some bar i had to shove the food in front of them to notice.

I've been coming here for years and the staff is one of the best I've seen in a pet store so kind caring and helpful they care very much about the animals that they are selling and reading threw these reviews I noticed one or two people say something about dead fish in tanks in the front and back of the store well I've been going there for seven years and they've never had fish tanks in the front of the store nor had a tank filled with dead fish maybe sometimes you might see a dead fish because name one pet store you won't but never a tank filled with them I always recommend this pet store to everyone in the area

Good birds, but this store takes very little care of their fish. 2± of their fish tanks had clogged filters full of dead fish and it was very disheartening to see when I visited Wednesday.

The store is located between 43st and 45st on ditmars Blvd inside a shopping center. They put the wrong address. It's 43-10 ditmars blvd
