So, I have no idea what people are on about with this place. 1, it’s a pet shop, of course it’s going to smell like animals! 2, this is NOT a puppy mill. When me and my daughter entered the shop yesterday, we asked the guy that welcomed us if we could have some information on this Maltese we saw, and he showed us the puppy’s documents. Parents name, gender, and more! Each dog was NOT in a cage, but able to be seen through a glass window. Like, it’s nasty if all the dogs are going to have a bed and blanket in there! They’ll poo on it, so I am 100% fine with news paper strips inside the puppy’s area. Also, prices. Pretty reasonable, 2000 dollars for the 9 week old Maltese is not bad. They included 5 year health insurance for the pup and a chip, also, each pup had all vaccines needed. He let my daughter play with the puppy, and the puppy was so happy and exited. None of them were sad, so no idea what these reviews are. He showed my daughter how to hold the puppy properly and how to see if the pup liked her. The dog licked and jumped around a lot! Also, correct me if I’m wrong, the guys name was William and he seemed very interested in the dog. Great customer service! He understood when I told him we had to speak with dad about it, so DEFINITELY NOT forcing you to buy a dog as some reviews say that. Unfortunately, we were looking for a girl Maltese. Maybe we might pick up a boy from there, maybe. Thank you William! I recommend this place if you are in NY.

We’ve got Enzo (mini Aussie) for almost a year now and he’s completely fine. He’s so smart, responds to commands, LOVES to play (nonstop). But always looks for our love and attention. Will guided me how to carry him but never forced me to get him. He was understanding because he had to get an ok from landlord. Now Enzo will be turning ONE on 01/10🐶🎈

What a depressing experience. My heart breaks for these poor innocent animals. I am a dog owner and I would NEVER subject them to such horrid conditions. The whole shop smells of urine and feces. Several of the animals have visible eye infections and appear sickly. A friend of mine got a pet from there and it came with fleas and ringworm that ended up infecting 3 dogs when meeting the new pet. All of the puppies have a visibly depressed demeanor. The puppies are displayed in wire floored cages with shredded paper as bedding. If I could give 0 stars I would. I don’t know how places like this still even exist. I’ll continue to pray for these animals.

Stopped by a few days ago just out of curiosity, met the owners and was so pleased by how nice and welcoming they were. I’m not sure why people say this place isn’t ideal, it was very clean, didn’t smell, the puppies were happy and also clean. Thinking of going back this weekend to get a puppy. This place has been in business for 42 years, and they are still here!!! Don’t listen to the haters

Very nasty place. 100% fits the description of a puppy mill. The people were rude and very rough with the animals. I saw one grab the puppy very aggressive while throwing new puppies into cages. Leaving cages unlocked. Having little to no food for all the animals. I saw the chow chow puppy today was provided food on a paper plate. Barely any food. This place is so disgusting. THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN. This isn’t my first time being in this place. I’ve seen it before were there were too many hamsters in one tank. Fighting some missing eyes, bloody and ,scabbed. Nasty place. Not to mention the condition of the cats. Poor things were depressed eyes with puss and looked miserable.

This place use to be Petland discount years ago, Then it became this puppy mill site. And it was sketchy before, but now it has hit an all time low. There is always some shady person in the front. The dogs don’t have any food and a comfortable place to lay. It’s just the hard grate covered by some news paper. Why would anyone buy a dog from this place? I don’t care how many positive reviews this place received from people buying dogs for their kids because they want one. This place is horrible and should not exist. I asked the sketchy guy there that CLEARLY has no dog experience how old was this dog in the photo… he told me 2 weeks… 2 WEEKS? First of all she is not two weeks old and wait…. You’re taking dogs 2 weeks old!? Buying dogs here just keeps them in business.. there is no love in this place.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. This place is ready to be reported for animal cruelty, and not for the typical reasons. The dogs do look sad in their cages, but what really upset me was that there are four hamsters in the same cage fighting violently. You can see gashes in their fur, blood dripping out. Anyone who knows about hamsters knows that Syrian hamsters need to be separated or they will become violent. I confronted one of workers and he lashed out at me and he asked me if I expect him to just do it and I said yes. I told him that they are going to kill each other and he continued to be disrespectful and tell me that he would separate them when he's ready and told me why don't I call the police. He was rude and obnoxious and doesn't care about the animals he's selling. This place needs to be shut down immediately. I have never seen a pet store so blatantly ignore an animal that needed assistance. Go shop elsewhere. Buy an animal who isn't being abused at a shelter or at a more caring pet store.

A disgusting pet store that abuses and neglects the pets. The employees are also some of the most insufferable and heartless people I have ever met. If you are a TRUE animal lover, the way this store holds the animals in cages and never takes them on walks should be your first red flag. The second red flag should be the store itself and the employees in the store. The biggest red flag should be the way all the animals are clearly dying to get let out because they are being ABUSED AND NEGLECTED.

Passed by and literally saw a puppy eating its own poop, in a crate that was not cleaned. There was no bedding or comfortable place for the windowfront puppies to lay. Judging by the harsh, rude responses by the owner to Google reviews and the apparent conditions the dogs are kept in (not even adding in where these puppies are sourced), it’s safe to say this place should be avoided.

This place is terrible and the employees are so nasty and rude-- calling customers "Karen" after being asked simple questions is NOT professional. After some of us noticed a cockroach in the cage with one of the dogs... all the dogs that were awake were pacing around and looked like they were stressed. Also, just from looking at the "owners" responses to other similar reviews it should be a HUGE red flag to never give them business. Don’t waste your time here, go to a local shelter where there are countless dogs that need a home.

I had to redo my review because I just bought a new puppy I love this place this is the third time me and my mother bought dogs here the first time was back in 2007 she was a small toy yorkie her name was Shanna sadly she past away this May 2022 at 14 years old then we bought a yorkie poo for someone in September 2022 her name is Faith now we bought a tea cup yorkie Charity Ann we pick her up January 12th 2023 we never had any problems with Astoria pets all our dogs were checked by a vet they sent us too and they were all healthy thank you again Astoria pet ps from mary j

We purchased a yorkie from Astoria Pets.The salesman name was Will. He was very informative and helpful.Like a used car salesman he gave that non stop salesman spiel..to get you to spend $3000 they have to..but was very friendly and helpful.If you going to buy YOU ARE GOING TO BUY.I don't understand how many people are saying the store is nasty. The owners have to minimize cost so the dogs are in cases with shredded paper as they are in many pet stores. The times we went there no dogs had mess on them.The only thing I can complain about purchasing from Astoria Pets is that whole medical for 5 years bull jive. ....it says free but no one can answer whats free. Not even as good as Will is as a saleman. ...........Don't let that be a factorI would suggest you read the contract and ask to see the paperwork before buying. This way you can see the medical information...if you go to another vet you can void your contract.....see picture below last sentence on first paragraph..I rather go to Banfield pay the $60 per month and have everything honest and upfront. Go do your research and compare. Spadeing is included with your Banfield contract.Microchipping and license can be done on your own......you don't have to pay Astoria Pets it's a convenient charge and up to you.We thank Will and have moved on to Bandfield Pet hospital. I would strongly suggest to give them a call and compare. Some Bandfield locations are convenient some are within Petsmart and also within locations within the 5 boros.That 5 year bull jive medical contract should NOT sway your focus on adding a fur baby to your home and family. So far we have a healthy and well puppy Luna LoveFinal decision the store sales A to B rated dogs a plus ....you will have to deal with the salesman spiel........the medical policy is focused on but it's half ASK at best and not a plus....Luna was purchased August 2022 at 7 weeks old ....I would buy here again and send people there to buy.When you call the doctor to set up an appointment they act as if they are doing you a favor.......so another reason I went some place else.

I’m so happy right now. I have been looking everywhere for a Husky, I was able to find this beautiful Siberian Husky Here. The staff members were great to me and my family from the time we walked in, they greeted us and proceeded to explain all the things that the dog comes with. I was amazed by the 5 years of free health insurance, it means alot to me because I paid over 5k in medical bills for my Frenchie. We walked in the store when my daughter fell in love with this beautiful cream colored Golden retriever that was by the window. I inquired about all the big dogs, they seemed to know everything about dogs which made me more Comftable. I have been avoiding this place for so long because I have read the bad reviews now I realize that all the bad and one star reviews were coming from people that never purchased a puppy in the first place. It’s wrong to mislead people with your reviews based on your personal feelings. I feel like I have done myself a injustice by not coming here sooner. I advice anyone that love dog and would like a puppy that is 2 to 4 months to stop by Astoria pets all the dogs were calm except for the few dogs that wanted to play with me And the kids. The dog in the front window seemed distressed. It was walking in circles continuously, as if it needed to go to the bathroom or was anxious. It didn't stop to interact when you came up to the glass. The other dogs inside seemed lethargic. I don't know where this place sources its animals nor how they treat them, but seeing the conditions of the animals just from stepping inside for a moment, I would never support this business with a purchase.

Keith and Will were AMAZING!! We had recently lost our dog of 19 years and were looking for a new addition to the family. They had no problem telling us information on the puppies and letting us meet a couple (with proper precautions of course). Will suggested the pup for us that we actually ended up taking home! The pup came with everything, including AKC registration about the breeders (which is why I don't understand why people think they get them from puppy mills). It has been around 3 weeks since we brought him home, and since then we have gone to the vet twice for shots and checkups, and our little guy is in perfect health! This place is definitely on par with the expensive pet stores in the city, for a much more reasonable price. Highly recommend!!!

I bought this puppy from the worker there named Will he was super nice he told us everything we needed to know about the puppy and even gave us some toys for my brand new puppy he made the experience very smooth and easy, the dogs were in good conditions, but overall everything was very good and the experience was great also

I recently lost my dog after 16 wonderful years. Heartbreaking and just awful after having been part of my and my son's life for so long. Wish to say thanks for many reasons to Astoria Pets. My son said that was his sister and even applied our last name to his best friend. Our dog will be missed everyday. She was.....incredible. A healthy and bright dog. Gonna suprise someone soon with a new pup. Heading back to Astoria Pets. I trust them and will stay loyal to this establishment. Thanks to the staff of this spot..... you all are awesome and see ya soon.

Just got my sweet puppy from Astoria Pets and what a great experience it was. They were very patient with me as I figure out the details before being able to get my dog and let me visit her as many times as I wanted until I was able to take her home. They inserted a chip in store, she already had all her vaccinations and they include a year long medical coverage with a local vet in queens. I would highly suggest this pet store any person as they truly take care of the pets and their parents.

Basic needs of a puppy: a warm bed, privacy, a toy, maybe a blanket. None of these needs were met here. The puppies are put on display like toys. The workers look like they don’t care about animals. The owner looks like he could be a felon with his slick greased back hair.The place reeks of exploiting animals for profit. The little puppies deserve better.Avoid this place at all costs
