I’m writing this because I am so unbelievably impressed with the work of this vet.On 9/12 My sweet but crazy girl took off running in our yard in the pitch black after a rabbit and we assume got caught on a branch. It was deep, dirty, and huge, approx 8-9 inches in length, and pocketed back pretty far. We rushed her in.Dr. Joanna Kosofsky was honestly amazing, and looking at the area now I can truly appreciate her work. Bean was sedated, cleaned out, and stitched up. We got there at 8:20 and were back home by 10:25. We had probably a five minute conversation with the vet, but that didn’t really matter to me as long as she fixed my dog, and she absolutely did. It has healed perfect. If you didn’t know it happened you would never be able to tell.Of course it was expensive, it’s an emergency vet. No they weren’t warm and cuddly, it’s not your primary vet. They deal with emergency cases and have to move on. It’s not personal, it’s to keep the flow going. When we got in we were the only ones there and when we left there was probably 8/9 people in the waiting room. They were fast, effective, knowledgeable, and most importantly VERY good at their job.My dog is healthy and happy and I’m so incredibly grateful. Thank you!

On Feb14th my family and I brought our dog in for a check up due to an issue (I believe at the time of my call he was having) but after my call he was fine, but thought i would bring him in to be checked out anyway ( what a mistake that was) Upon our arrival, my dog jumped out of the car and walked right in wagging his tail so i thought nothing of it. He was brought into the back and they inserted an iv ( for no reason in my opinion because he had no issue at that time) my husband and i were then placed in another room for about 7 minutes or so and the doctor came in and said I don’t think your dog is gunna make it. I was in shock because he was fine just a moment ago. We exchanged some conversation and he asked if he could do an X-ray and I agreed. After several minutes he came back pulled a picture up on his phone and told me my dog had something inside that was pushing his esophagus but again didn’t think to much of it and my thought was i would bring him to his vet the following day however that would never happen because shortly after that he he left the room to retrieve my dog. He then had wheeled my dog in then left the room and clearly my dog was in distress and couldn’t breathe, his tongue was blue and at this point I was upset and suddenly the Doc came back in with a syringe already drawn up and put my dog down , i was horrified. I asked for his report and paperwork on my dog and in his report he had said my dog had labored breathing x 1 week, clearly this was a lie because i would have brought him to his veterinarian like I always do. Also he had written he gave my dog Butorphanol and he didn’t need it because my dog was in NO pain or distress of any kind. This narcotic can cause respiratory distress which I believe lead to his demise… My dog was a loving dog and this clearly is a tragedy…in my opinion this was a case of negligence and i would seriously think twice about bringing your dog here. To the comment below… this is absolutely true and I have it on paper. MY DOG WAS GIVING BUTORPHANOL and he should have never gotten that … I DID NOT give permission for this drug to be ministered to him. Do you know what this drug is used for???? I have all the documentation from the vet and you can try to prove me wrong any time your ready…. This is my testimony and i stand by it.

My cat was hit by a car. Guess what the most important thing was to this place at that time? If you guessed $$$ then you are correct. I asked if I could have five minutes with my cat to say goodbye. Ten minutes later he was brought into the exam room and then, less than a minute after that, billing paperwork was brought into the exam room to start the billing process and I couldn't even give my cat a proper goodbye because then my cat started crying out in pain. I have never been to any place that has started the billing process in the exam room while your sick pet is on the exam table. It has usually always been done after the animal has been tended to out at the front desk. If you think the place you bring your sick pet to should care evenly for both payment and treatment of your beloved pet then stay away from this place.

I am forever grateful to Dr. Mendoza and the staff at the clinic for the excellent care they gave my kitten this past fall after a traumatic incident. Dr. Mendoza went beyond the call of duty and ensured my kitten was attended to, even though they were short of vets at the time. He explained everything to me clearly and compassionately. He was coordinated a blood transfusion with a donor cat and their owner, who I am also so grateful to. Pet owners should feel confident taking their animals to the clinic. The entire staff was caring and committed. Thank you for saving my kitten's life. He continues to be the "feisty and cute" boy thanks to your excellent care.

Brought my dog there and the people in the front were very nasty and unprofessional.Gave my dog a drug called butorphanol which suppressed his breathing and I believe it ultimately led to his demise. (Front end people told me I gave permission for this) I would never give him permission to give him a drug that would suppress his breathing. My reason for the visit was a breathing problem however, by the time that we arrived my dog was fine but I thought I would have him checked out anyway, what a mistake that was and the last time he would alive . It was an awful experience, would not recommend....

Decent service. Sorta rude vet? I came here for an emergency with my cat eating ribbon. I called and made sure they were open & they were very prompt with providing me service, which I appreciated. The results were inconclusive and the vet on staff recommended to keep her — though I know my cat well enough to know that observation would best be made at home, as she would be too petrified to do anything there. When I told the vet I couldn’t afford the over 1,000 dollar bill for a night’s stay, she accepted it. What I did not appreciate was, when she returned, she made a comment about how “if she (my cat) needs the surgery, I’ll need to ask mommy and daddy to help me out because it is upwards of 4,000 dollars.”Not all of us have mommy and daddy to spot us. If my cat required surgery, I’d sort it out. Somehow I left this hospital feeling extremely judged, like I should be ashamed of going to college and making a better life. She hardly knew anything about me yet saw it fitting to make comments. I understand she works with animals instead of people for a reason, but I am here for my cat, not to be judged over a 15 minute interaction and a x ray with some meds that cost me 400 dollars (which is fair pricing for veterinary services in my opinion). Decent place in a pinch, but don’t expect to emerge unscathed emotionally. Yikes.

Thank you so much Dr. Kosofsky and her wonderful staff for taking such great care of our girl Tiffany. We had a scare and our veterinarian referred us to Animal Emergency Clinic of Kingston. They were busy in the waiting room and in the back yet we were treated like we were the only patients there. Dr. Kosofsky and her staff were so caring and gentle with our girl, she’s almost 18. She unfortunately had to stay the night, I checked in twice and the staff was just so sweet, patient and informative. I can’t recommend this hospital enough! They also accept care credit. We also left with detailed notes about her care, her X-rays and detailed after care. Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of her and making us feel super comfortable about us leaving her! Usually when pets stay overnight in kennels they have a smell, when we picked her up she had zero smell, they obviously keep it very clean in there!!! She was so unbelievably taken care of. Thank you!

The nurse who came out to check my fur baby’s heart rate was very kind and professional. However, the front desk staff person was the rudest employee to the point of cruelty who I have ever encountered in a business. This was especially upsetting because of how worried you are about your pet to be at the Vet ER late at night. This employee should be terminated by the owners immediately. Our regular vet is Animal Wellness (formerly Compassion Vet) in Poughkeepsie- they are wonderful.I was honestly shaken by how I was treated on the phone prior to my arrival at the ER Vet and the entire experience as I waited in person.Luckily, my fur baby is doing well.

They were very fast with getting us in and getting our dog checked out at 4am-5am. They let us know upfront the costs of things to make sure we were able to cover it before doing whatever needed to be done on our dog. They sent us home with antibiotics and were very helpful with giving us options and information on certain things. It is more on the pricier side, but the fact is you’re paying to save your fur baby’s life and having the convince of them being open with not regular business hours. Would recommend anytime!

I brought in my dog on a Sunday. He chased a stick I threw then really yelped when he was grabbing it off the ground. He wouldnt eat or drink when we got home and was just hanging his head. Turns out the end of the stick stabbed his throat and gashed a hole. THIS WAS NOT VISIBLE when i looked in his mouth with a flashlight and vet couldnt see it in exam room either. She recommended sedating him to be able to really look in there and found the gash. Sewed him up and gave pain meds and antibiotics. With everything it was about $800 which frankly i felt was well within reason - i was steeling myself for $1000 +. They faxed records to my vet by the time i settled up (Rhinebeck Hospital - who promptly called the next day to make sure to arrange follow up care). All in all a really positive experience and so grateful to that experienced vet who persisted to find the problem and provide quick and knowledgeable resolution - and compassion to provide pain meds to mitigate his suffering poor guy. Finally - do not throw sticks for a dog that likes to try and catch them. I will never throw another stick again.

Absolutely awful experience. Called after my 15 year old dog had a seizure today and our regular vet was closed . They said we could come in and even asked how long it would be before we would arrive. When we arrived we were told because my dog could walk she was considered stable and could not be seen for 6-8 hours. Absolute waste of 2 hours in the car. The receptionist could not have cared less. She was awful. I would never recommend anyone take their pet here.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with my two dogs who had gotten into the compost. It was more about the money than it was taking care of the animal. I highly do not recommend.

My 6 yr old boxer had a mass on paw that suddenly notice had doubled in side while I was in area visiting family. I called, went right in and was seen within 15 minutes. Extremely friendly staff, took great care of dog, provided follow up information until I saw my vet, and did NOT charge me an.arm and a leg. Would definitely recommend

Everyone was friendly and courteous. I felt confident the doctor was knowledgeable and sensitive to my situation. The treatment was professional and very affordable! As a new kitty mom, I was offered lots of free advice and support. I hope I never need it again but in an emergency, I will not think twice to visit the Animal Hospital in Kingston! Many thanks to the staff! Here's Princess Jasmine who it turns out is a male 😆 and an interesting moth that parked itself on my car while visiting the hospital.

I recently had an urgent situation with my dog on Thanksgiving when my friend's children accidentally fed her grapes. After contacting the poison control center, they advised a vet visit. The staff at this veterinary clinic was exceptional—they attended to my dog promptly, and the process was incredibly fast. I'm truly grateful for their swift and effective care during a holiday emergency.

I rushed my cat in due to extreme lethargy (stumbling, not eating, etc). Unlike the Latham clinic, which had an 8 hour wait, they told me to come down. Everyone was so kind and empathetic, and so far, the treatment has helped my cat very much. That said, they were compassionate when speaking about end of life issues. I'm grateful to them and could not recommend them higher.

Incredible people and friends. My girlfriend and I lost our pet yesterday, and despite the vets and employees not specializing in exotic vet medicine, they comforted us during a challenging time.

Had a great experience receiving affordable care here in a stressful situation. Our dog had a late night medical emergency and we called the clinic up to be sure that if we drove the 45min that our dog could be seen. The receptionist in the phone was very nice and encouraged us to come down. We got there and again she was very nice- checked us in and warned us it might be a wait. They see patients in order of severity. We were in the exam room within the hour. The vet tech and Dr. Black were both warm and compassionate towards to us and our dog. They diagnosed the issue quickly without the huge cost of multiple tests and within another hour had given our dog the antibiotics and other meds he needed and sent us home with the rest of the medication. Highly recommend this clinic! Thank you!!

My little buddy & I had such a wonderful interaction with Dr. Black despite the circumstances. My little dog had a sliver of bone passing through his body which was causing him pain & at the time, I had no idea what was ailing him.I called the animal hospital at 3am, spoke with a young lady who was helpful, respectful & understanding while I tearfully explained my dogs symptoms & dilemma.I was able to rush him to the hospital first thing in the morning, we were placed in an exam room & met Dr. Black soon after.Dr. Black is a wonderful, warm, empathetic woman who has such a calming demeanor about herself that my little anxious dog calmed down significantly as we went through his exam. The receptionists & assisting persons in the office were also most helpful & informative (Dr. Black provided me some great options to look into pertaining to the bill & little guy's care & every question I had was answered thoroughly).I've lived in this town a long time & a lot of the businesses/people I've solicited locally were cold & unwelcoming towards me. Thankfully, that was not the case in this instance.Thank you to your team & staff for assisting my little companion & I through a stressful situation & guiding us through until it was resolved!!Update; January 24th, 2024: I had to bring my senior dog in who has a collapsing trachea, a heart murmur and was having difficulty breathing. When I called initially to gage if panting is a sign of distress, the receptionist rushed me off the phone, stating that she "can't diagnose him over the phone" 😒(soooo, she's a patronizing idiot too).I brought him in anyway and the entire interaction with that same receptionist was a travesty. She was nasty, curt, uncompassionate and shouldn't be working with animals nor interacting with people in any capacity. She was rushing through the intake paperwork so fast, she was stuttering and tripping over her words.I don't know nor care what her name is. She's a lightskinned black/mixed girl wearing glasses and faux locs.If I had other options for emergency vet care, I would've gone elsewhere. The other receptionist, Leah, wasn't even waiting on us and her interaction by far was a vast improvement in comparison. If anyone is thinking about bringing their animals here and you're under duress, call first because, I'm telling you, it will raise your blood pressure having to share a space with such an ignorant acting person.

My dog was diagnosed with lymphoma and took a major turn for the worse within 3 weeks. I had no choice but to take him to emergency vet to be put down on Sunday. I called ahead &:The woman I spoke with on the phone was great. By the time we got there my dog was clearly dying. He was almost gone before they even touched him. The woman that injected the stuff into him was quite rude & unfriendly. After my best friend was declared dead this woman takes the table he was on & without saying a word to me she wheels him away and straight out the door into the parking lot. Where my kids and good friend were waiting. They freaked out when they saw my beautiful boy. Dead, his head hanging off the table. Eyes & mouth wide open. My kids were crying. My son said WTH ? No box or anything for him. She said " no we don't have a box big enough for him ".Whoever she was if I had her name i would use it. She was awful! At a time like that you'd think a little kindness would be best. I'm sorry my dog died there. I hope to never go back.

Wonderful, caring team of professionals. We’ve had to bring our pets here due to emergencies a number of times and they have always been kind, understanding and honest about treatment options. Their compassion when we had to put our beloved cat down was sincerely appreciated during such a heart wrenching time. Amazing place!

Dr. Mendoza is compassionate and competent. In an extremely busy place, he went above and beyond to make time talking through complicated things with me and showed a great deal of care and professionalism. The place is expensive and waits are long, but that’s the nature of these places more so than a review of the spot and the staff, who were all largely kind and helpful. For what it is, it’s a great resource you hope to never need, though if you do, Dr. Mendoza is the guy you’d want to be there to help.

From the staff at the front desk, the vet techs, and Dr. Black, this place is amazing and the best vet I've been to. My dog Milo had trouble breathing and even though they were at capacity, they took him right away and rushed him back. They were transparent with everything and as soon as they knew he was okay they let me know, and didn't make me wait anxiously. They were kind, efficient, and everything a vet's office should be. Thank you for helping my dog, I am so thankful.

We had called asking if they would see our dog Joules who had collapsed and we either suffering a heart attack or stroke and wasn’t getting enough air. They were 15 min away and we asked if we could please bring him in. They turned us away saying they were “at capacity” and gave us no help or advice. We called again begging for help and they said the doctors will be too busy until they closed…which wasn’t for HOURS. We were forced to try to go to the only other open emergency clinic 1 HOUR AWAY. Our poor boy passed away in the car on the way, extremely traumatic…my boyfriend tried giving him CPR and it was the most excruciating experience of a pet passing we have ever experienced in our lives. Do not try to go here unless you want a broken heart 💔
