Tops Friendly Market more like tops rude market. The general manager at the triphammer location is rude as can be. I called this location to cash my check and they told me there customer service department closed at 8pm when I showed up there at 7:40 the general manager was there selling a can of formula I asked him if he could cash my check and he got a snarky attitude. This is not the first encounter I’ve had with this manager at this location and him being rude. I will no longer visit this tops location for anything again considering nobody is on the same page and everyone in that store that worked the has snarky attitudes towards customers which is really cute.

Store is open until midnight but I couldn’t buy garbage stickers at 9:30pm. According to the clerk you don’t sell them at “this” hour. Why? I’ve bought them before at the registers after customer service desk is closed. Makes no sense. Is it illegal to sell them that late? If not, please fix your policy!

I like Tops! Decent selection of health-foods. Clean, upbeat, and not too crazy big. It's just chill and friendly in my experience.

Shopping at Tops is great, many food selection and great produce. When it gets busy not too many cashiers open, but they are working very hard and quickly. One thing that gets me is that customers aren’t bagging their own groceries, even if there are 2 or 3 people there able to pack bags. They watch the cashier pack as quickly but complain that it’s too heavy and make here in pack and then repack in a different bag. Which would make other customers wait even longer. Let the cashiers pack if you don’t want to, i’m sick and tired of reading all these reviews you have about the cashiers and how they don’t help, they get stressed too and they get help doing all this. Yes, they are low on cashiers during the day but if you can’t be patient with how they are working, go to the self check out maybe then you will be able to see what they have to deal with.

Although they have great products and prices they need to update the self service registers. It's not registering the weight properly and not registering the coupons and some payments!!

Love that their open late, makes it easy for me to get dinner after work and a couple needed groceries. Forgot to catch the woman name but she is kind, very helpful. The store is always organized and cleaned. Their fresh meals are great, although for me personally I got sick from the BBQ brisket mac n cheese. Love their fresh fruits as well.

Tops, triphammer road,, Ithaca:Food and selection is good but my main issue over and over is the difficulty with machines and personnel on checkout. I have no problems with self checkout at target and wegmans. At tops, I put my bag down and it says remove item and scan first. I remove and scan, and it says place it in bag area when it is already in bag area. It calls for help and after staff fixes it, it starts problems again and freezes. There are 3 staff 3 feet from me and I need to call their attention because no one is looking at customers. They are talking among themselves and not interested with customers. One says to me, "your machine" froze" and they do nothing. They don't say they will help or they don't know what to do and will get help. So I leave the machine and go to cashier who is talking to another cashier on another line and proceeds to put 10 cans of vegetables plus a half gallon of milk plus a quart of cream all into one bag with the cartons of milk lying on sides under cans. It was about 30 lbs. And he continued to talk about personal things to another cashier.Never would that happen at wegmans! The self checkout machines aren't calibrated at Tops, the staff aren't trained and it is management's fault. Don't tell me they can't get good help. What they can't get is good managers who train people properly and who show how to work hard and smart by modeling. Oh. This cranky old man writing this complaint was manager of sales training at a large corporation.

Been shopping here for 20 years and for the most part it is a good store. Sometimes not always the best prices - but usually very competitive. Produce section is rather small in comparison to other places (like Wegmans) but they have all the basic essentials. I will say, however, there is one employee in particular who is always grumpy, always talks in a rude tone, and is not very helpful at all. You can usually find her sitting near the self checkout lanes. Other than this one employee ALL my other interactions with other employees over the course of 20 years have been very friendly and positive. This one employee sticks out as the exception. So much so that I am surprised she still works there. I get it that work isn't always a great place to be -- and I get it that dealing with customers can be annoying and frustrating sometimes. But to ALWAYS be in such a sour mood -- it is just very off-putting. After one particular interaction with her that really got me fuming, I now try to avoid her at all costs. Previously whenever I dealt with her I tried to be extra friendly toward her to try to counter-balance her rudeness and moodiness. I'm pretty sure everyone knows who I am talking about. She's not happy working there. And she shouldn't be in a customer-facing role. If you aren't going to fire her, at least reassign her so she doesn't have to deal with people -- she's clearly irritated by us customers. It tarnishes the rest of the store and the employees who have always been extra helpful and extremely friendly. She is the one exception.

This place is ok if you live in Lansing and don't want to drive down to Wegmans or the Co-op. It's great if you just need frozen foods, non-perishables, or beer. The produce hasn't been great on any of my visits, which is the main reason I wouldn't rate it higher. Overall, it's a decent, average grocery store.

I've had a handful of times we're the employees where pretty rude. Don't work at tops if you can't deal with people. One time I was at a self checkout having issues with the card machine and this employee comes over to "help". She knew very well that I needed help and then decides that she just wants to go on break. To all tops employees, relearn basic customer service and you wouldn't be having as many people complaining.

The store manager is EXTREMELY arrogant and quite frankly I’ve never run into anyone as patronizing and egocentric as HE!!! I understand his job needs to be done, however it also should be done in a PROFESSIONAL manner! I was in the store too long for his liking with out purchasing anything due to trying to escape the heat and kill some time! Although I even told him if he felt the need to check my bags then to do so,he snidely commented and walked off and as he did so I said, “wtf that’s ridiculous”, not even addressing him but speaking to someone next to me! He then proceeded to kick me off the property!!! Well done sir, Tops will no longer be a store myself or my family will be shopping at! Have a great day!!

The pharmacy at the Triphammer Tops exceeds expectations! Penny and Tina go out of their way to service their customers. A big thank you for all that you do to meet the needs of the customer.

The cow cashier needs to be trained on greeting customers. "You have a bonus card" doesn't sound anything like "Hello, how are you?". It might be she needed another box of donuts before leaving the farm

RUDE EMPLOYEESTops was pretty busy, lines super long and into the isle. I'm in line with my small children, at the first check out. Not realizing it's an "express lane" after waiting 10 minutes it was our turn. Right as I was about to start unloading the rude old lady says "are you express, I'm pretty sure there's a sign" my cart was not overflowing, and she still made me walk to another lane and wait even longer. There were 10 or 11 Tops employees running us over in the isle's stocking shelves, yet hardly anyone helping these huge lines. Poor management as well?

The self checkout cha-ching noise everytime you save with the membership card is annoying. The self check out weight monitor is buggy and constantly requiring us to wait for an employee to come over to override it, which takes forever because they're busy doing other stuff.

Tops itself is a great store, with excellent choices, and great prices. However, the crowd that shops here are not the greatest. Three times I have been accosted in the parking lot, for no reason. I love shopping there for the prices and the quality, but it is always an adventure, and the customers themselves can be difficult to deal with. Both times I have had my grandmother with me, and people have been rude or threatening me in the parking lot for no discernible reason. One Patron followed me into the store and proceeded to threaten me, which the manager did intercede for. But even the manager commented that that person comes to the store regularly and causes trouble. So I'm not certain that it is worth the hassle if you are looking for a relaxing family shopping experience.

Cashier wonderful. No carts in store. Several customers had to go out and get their own. Still that way I left 50 minutes later. Shelves should be filled earlier in the day. Hard to get around. Never had any complaints about this Tops before.

I love the review down below: "It's a supermarket, they have food, and the service was fine." I think that sums it up nicely. I've shopped here many years and have frequently made personal requests of the management. They are always accommodating, but miracles they do not do. The just- out-of-high-school staff is not on the same level as the staff at the White House or Buckingham Palace. What the heck to you expect? The prices are ... well, average. Believe me, they know their competitor's prices; they have a front office and they have computers and they shouldn't be expected to price things below market value. Thank goodness. If they did low ball it, you'd have a low ball, poor quality store. I'm with the sentiment above: It's a grocery store. It's not Wegman's. But it serves the public at a level appropriate to market demands. Let's leave it at that.

Tops is a great place to find groceries and supermarket products of all sorts, particularly fresh produce and natural and organic groceries. Prices are slightly high compared to other supermarket chains, but product quality is very good and customer service is commendable. This particular location also carries exotic meats such as kangaroo, alligator, bison, and more.

This review pertains to the Carry Out department at Tops on North Triphammer Rd. Every time I go the staff seems very short and inconvenienced to take orders. I'm not sure if it's a staffing issue, but they seem to direct their frustration and annoyance at costumers who "inconvenience" them by ordering a pizza or sub. Today was the last time I will go there. An employee, Maria (black framed glasses, working today was very short and rude to not only myself but multiple costumers. I've had enough experiences at this location to call it quits. You need more staff or retraining because costumers shouldn't be made to feel bad for ordering something your store provides and this isn't my first unpleasant experience.

On the plus side are convenience and mostly friendly employees. Deli meats are plentiful and Tops carries a few items that Wegmans does not (Heidelburg bread and many teas). But, a lot of the produce is of a lesser quality, and aisles and entire store are packed with extra displays which I do not like. Every aisle has multiple extra displays which narrow the aisles and can even make it tough to reach the item you're looking for. Every single check out lane has an extra display at the end so you can't unload your cart readily.

Decent prices. Produce is usually pretty good, an okay beer selection, some international and organic/fancy food available. Hot food is limited, unhealthy, and meh. Breads at the bakery are bland and mushy. Self-checkout line is fast, but the regular checkouts usually have only one or two cashiers and long lines.

Fairly average as stores go. The staff is very friendly, but the produce tends to scare me a bit. I go down to Wegmans when I need a lot of fresh produce. If you come here while it's busy expect to wait in line 20 minutes to check out, as there are never enough cashiers during the rush.

The store is so full of junk and non-food items. Shopping carts full of discounted random items are shoved into any open isle spot they can find. Doesn't seem like the store knows what customers it wants to appeal to which really lends to its selection to be all over the place. Best going to P&C Fresh or Wegmans.

Nice store always clean. The deals they have each week are pretty good but some other their other products are a bit more expensive than othe grocery stores in the area

Shopping in store at 8:00 thurs morning. While there was sanitizing wipes available by the cart parking area, outside of shields for the cashiers there appeared to be no other obvious concern for viral protection of customers. The employees were huddling around talking, no masks or gloves. In the past the employees behind the meat counter wore gloves and face shields while cutting deli. Today they were only wearing gloves. There is enough evidence the normal breathing spreads some viral agents. It would be nice to see the store taking a more proactive approach to customer and employee health protection. I was very disappointed

Terrible customer service and WAY overpriced! Went here the night I moved to Lansing to get groceries and stock up on some things. I had a cart filled with groceries and when I got in the only open checkout line the young cashier, while cashing out the current customer looked at me and told me not to go into his line because his shift was over in 5 minutes and didn't want to cash out all of my groceries. Shortly before 9pm I asked him where else he'd like me to go and he told me to go to self checkout. I left the cart and walked out. Hire these kids and make sure they have decent customer service or fire them! The prices are too overpriced to have terrible customer service. Haven't been back since. Save your money and go to Aldi or Wegmans or even Walmart if you can spare the extra 10 minute drive.
