btj’s jungle does not even deserve one star. it is by far the worst pet store i have ever visited in terms of animal welfare, neglect and overall filth. to start - we have unsupervised macaws climbing on top of rabbit cages, given the opportunity to defecate into the cages as well as potentially biting customers who approach them. on top of that, there was a completely unsupervised rabbit hiding underneath a shelf. given the fragility of rabbits, why on earth would anyone decide it’s a good idea to leave one unattended with the potential to be (accidentally) harmed by customers (ex. small children). furthermore, the entire fish area was deplorable and quite honestly just filthy. the beta fish essentially left to die in small plastic cups (literal plastic grocery store cups) with disgusting water was a concerning sight, yet a clear example of willful neglect on behalf of btj’s jungle. the open coca-cola cans on top of the tanks also speaks for itself. now moving on to the absolute worst part of the store - the abysmal reptile area in the back. i’m not sure what’s worse, the multiple feeder rats and mice kept in extremely crowded 10 gallon tanks or the sheer condition of the snakes. aside from the multiple ball pythons kept piled on top of each other (no hides or enrichment provided whatsoever), the blood python kept in a tank crammed in the corner of the room looked to be on the verge of death. from the extremely poor conditions of the tank to the overall condition of the snake, it’s clear btj’s jungle simply does not care about the welfare of any of its animals. the standard of care here is truly below the bare minimum and i can only hope their day comes soon and they are shut down for good. definitely will be reporting them.

Glorified Petco, horrible. Crowded. They do not care for their tanks at all. Tons of dead fish everywhere. Way overpriced, everything was 15-20% higher than everywhere else. All their tanks were cloudy, ick on several fish, fish in undersized tanks. This place is not the place you want to buy fish from unless you want dead fish a couple days later.

A menagerie of exotic animals for sale. I'm not a professional, nor do I own a store, but the tanks/cages seemed a bit small for some of their denizens. However, it is a wonderful place to window shop. Limited parking though, and your kids will probably want at least everything.

Good selection of parrot toys. If only the staff were half as interested in helping you as they were in monitoring what you were touching, maybe I would think about going back. Yes, I allowed my 3 year old to gently touch things I was prepared to buy if for some odd reason it broke. Also yes, was my MOTHER was asked if my child put the item back prior to leaving the store. Try asking the person with the child. Plus the fish look very lethargic, and short on space for their size. I have purchased fish here though and are still in good health. I like the idea of shopping at small businesses and do whenever possible, but next time it's Amazon for parrot items that are harder to find or another pet store. Overall very uncomfortable experience and I won't be going back.

This place is the benchmark for all Pet Shops on Long Island. They have been doing it for a long time. They consistently have a great service and the variety’s of pets they offer is amazing. They offer great knowledge, and have a friendly staff. Their prices are also not off the charts like some of the others they compete with. Especially on thier fish. I don’t offer a lot of reviews but BTJ’s deserves the praise.

Brought my grandson for the first time and he was amazed by all the rabbits, birds and fish. I've been coming to BTJ's Jungle since I was a teenager. By the way, they stock everything you could possibly need for your beloved pets.

Absolutely the best place to get any pet. Amazingly friendly and just because we were treated so nice we bought all of our fish equipment there. It is the most family-orientated atmosphere very well knowledgeable staff and I must visit even if you don't buy any pets or supplies. I really wish I had this store in my neighborhood a plus definitely A++. must visit. I believe the gentleman's name was Bill really amazing guy I think he was the owner as well. Thank you for treating my family well and letting the girls have see the beautiful bunnies

This place needs to be shut down. The conditions they have the animals in is DISGUSTING!!! The reptile room is HEART BREAKING. so many snakes in one tank. So many SICK snakes. Disgusting enclosures. Chameleons in BIRD CAGES. This place needs to be shut down. Nothing like the old one. The conditions of these animals are ridiculous. DO BETTER

Everyone very helpful. They have fresh & salt water fish, snakes, birds, rabbits etc. Have a lot of supplies as food for all types of pets. Parking free in front.

This pains me to write. I used to really enjoy this place as a child I thought it was great but I can confidently say I will never ever go back there again and I don’t encourage anyone to give them further business because you’re just further supporting irresponsible keeping of animals that deserve better. I purchased a hognose snake and was told no info. The gender was unknown, age was unknown, And the snake has never ate on its own without force feeding. I now know that this is incredibly irresponsible as a breeder/seller to let go of a snake without having consecutive successful feedings. I was told this was “normal” for babies which is so wrong. How can you not know any information about an animal you’re selling?? As a first time snake owner I feel so robbed, I have had such a difficult time trying to feed my snake and force feeding is so stressful and upsetting. I have tried everything to get my snake to feed, every single method possible. This snake should have never left without being stable. I was set up for failure and they knew it 100%. I have neglected to make this review because i’m not that type of person but I found parasitic snake mites today and I am so sick and tired of this. I take such good careful care of my snake and knowing he has mites ( he has never come in contact with any other reptile at my home along with me thoroughly cleaning my enclosure/substrate to make sure this problem is impossible) shows that their whole store is infested. So keep this in mind if you want to purchase anything. This is really disheartening to say the least. :(

On January 19th I bought a baby rabbit I named biscuit. He looked sad and was stuck in a corner because the cage was packed with other bunnies. I love him because he did bite anything in my apartment and my whole family loved him too. Biscuit died within the 12 days I owned him. I rushed him to the veterany hospital and they did everything to save him but he died in my arms. I grow up with all kinds of pet and I never had a baby die in my arms. When I went back the owner avoided me like the plague. The bunny I got was from another state. They didn't get them checked out by a vet before selling them. I would avoid buying anything from them. Their hay was dry and old. The pellets weren't good at all and that's what the feed the bunnies before they sell them to the public. The vet bill and everything buy that biscuit need cost me over a grand. The owner is just out to make a profit and nothing else. Go adopt a pet.

This is great place to visit with the kids, even if you don’t buy anything, you can just pet the animals and spend good time with the kids. They have a lot of fish to sell as well as snakes birds and bunnies

Genuinely the worst pet store I've ever seen. Go anywhere else, any chain pet store is better than this place. Tons of rabbits crammed into a cage not even fit for a guinea pig, as many birds as possible stuffed into each cage. And the worst is the reptile section. Completely bare cages, only lined with newspaper, with different snakes piled onto each other. There's one in particular that comes to mind, where there are 5+ adult ball pythons in what seemed to be a 20 gallon tank. With no hides, no cover, nothing. It smells, it's dirty, I cannot fathom why anyone would want to go here.

Jeez.... this place really breaks my heart. The animals here literally look like they want to die. It's painful to look at. The place gets so extremely hot in the summer and they have no AC and the animals are in small cages and they're literally suffering. The animal cages are totally inadequate for the animals inside and nothing I mean nothing is properly cleaned. Someone needs to save his place because it can be so fantastic. YES no matter what the place won't be spotless because there are so many animals and birds which love to make a mess. But that's no excuse for the conditions that this place is in. I really have no clue how they're actually operating. I beg that someone who has power can get in this place and totally flip it because this is literally disgusting. They need to learn how to clean correctly and properly care for the animals inside. The store is completely organized.. the whole inside needs to be cleaned and renovated. The only positive is if you have kids they can pet bunnies and they may like to look at the animals. But as an adult you know that these animals are not in the correct environment and are not cared for properly at all. This place disgusts me and I really pray for a change. Please.

So sad to see all the animals cooped up and in sad enclosures. Smelled awful reminded me instantly of seaquest but honestly worse. Dont shop here. And dont ever get an animal here they had a mata mata turtle in a 40 gallon tank and he could barley even swim. Such a sad place

Personally, I was very disappointed with the service provided to me and my cockatoo. We had her wings clipped here not too long ago (which should prevent flight for around 4-6 months.) However, my cockatoo was flying around the house about 2 weeks after being “clipped.” Secondly, both times we’ve taken her to get her wings clipped, there was judgment passed onto my bird’s physical attributes.The staff called her “dirty” and looked disgusted by her appearance. As someone who loves and cares deeply for my parrot, I could not have been more upset by what I was hearing. We purchased bedding for her cage the last time we visited BTJ’s. They asked what bedding we used since she appeared “dirty.” We responded with, “we actually bought the bedding from here.” They offered zero solution to the “issue” they were complaining about. Our cockatoo is very gentle and well behaved, which is heartbreaking that they would treat her in such a way. They made our family feel as if we were not providing her with the proper care, meanwhile it could not be further from the truth. We also looked at other animals in the store while waiting for our bird’s wings to be clipped and the staff made us feel very unwelcome. It seemed as if we were invading space and they did not want visitors. Overall, I am very disappointed with my visit.

Variety is good. However, aquatics department staff is not very knowledgeable nor customer care oriented. I spent 400 dollars, and I had to practically hunt down the aquatics associates, and he seemed annoyed I was purchasing fish. By the way, fish are overpriced and of poor quality . Def won't recommend

I can understand how the typical costumer may find this store acceptable however as a current animal scientist and a previous manager of a pet store I have differing opinions. To start, the space allocation for each animal is unacceptable. For example, the appropriate size enclosure for a snake would allow them the animal to stretch its body out without touching the sides of the enclosure. A few snakes there were unable to do so as they were clearly larger than a dog but were confined to a tank the size of an average sized laundry basket. None of the rodents/ rabbits were given an exercise wheel or chewing blocks, items critical for the physical well-being of these species. Additionally, there were around 6 rabbits in a tank acceptable for one Guinea pig and the tarantulas were in what looked like a 4 by 4 container. The aquatics department was slightly better as the fish were, for the most part, given apt places to hide if their species typically requires that (such as eels) however some of the fish looked ill and unalert.It is my assumption that this store breeds their animals to sell. This is a selling tactic, although not my preference, is understandable and used by many family owned business. This being said, there is a limit to breeding. If the store is at the point of not being able to give each animal the proper amount of space and care, breeding should be discontinued until enough animals have been sold. This is obviously not the case here.Overall this is a very upsetting store and I would urge you not to support this business.

I've been to this place several times and I do enjoy going here to look around. They have a wide selection of animals... even a raven which is really cool! However, this doesn't make up for the fact that it smells awful and it's dirty. It's really depressing seeing multiple birds cramped in one cage which is wrong, and the animals all look depressed and malnourished. The staff is very rude as well. Never say hello or ask if you need help with anything. Debating if I'll ever go back at this point

Picked up an entire set up from here. 110 Gallons, fluval FX6 Cansiter filter (best filter I've ever had) heater, gravel, plants, drift wood... the whole 9 yards! Tony helped me out picking everything and even came in early for me. Highly recommend this company for any exotic animals and especially fish. 10/10!

I’d give zero stars if I could. The most depressing fish store I’ve ever been to. The place smelled, was dirty and the fish water was deplorable. The fish are cramped into small tanks. They had large fish in 5-10 gallon tanks and they could barely move. It was sad to see. I would never support a place like this and I hope no one else does. No one who cares for fish would ever treat fish in this way.
