Prospect is 90% disappointment. This was not a hard review to write. There were no grey areas on this experience.Male bartender(Nemo?) was excellent.•The crispy potatoes are firm but mushy; like overcooked breakfast potatoes. They do not come “crispy” or “crushed”. Instead they’re served in a mediocre buffet-style soup bowl with a stainless steel sauce cup pushed into the bowl. You get 2 diced potatoes in this presentation.•The medium rare steak is a raw center & served cold, with a big glob of butter on top. After one bite, your lips will be coated & feel like your utensils look* after trying to spread it. The cauliflower on the plate was decent.*Zoom in on my fork covered in their butter. This was 5 min into being served the cold steak. Imagine what that tastes & feels like.•The winter harvest salad is 99% greens with a sliver of a gourd. You will not find any more squash in this salad.•Wine pickings are all over the place. The NY wines are bitter. Sadly, supporting a local vineyard wasn’t an option on this trip.Luckily, this is not the only restaurant in Hunter. We were better off going into town (3 miles away) to Tabla on Main Street. Impeccable service and great food & drinks.

The sandwich in my photo was $28. It was a bit bigger in size than a slider and included no sides. My wife ordered the burger and it was the same. The food quality was fine but we left hungry. We were a larger group which may have contributed to the next problem, but I was done with my food before my wife received any of hers. Their kitchen seemed to be having issues. We ordered a french onion soup advertised as having a crust of cheese on top, but it arrived without any as far as we could tell. For nearly $75-100pp after food and drinks, you would expect better. Overpriced tourist trap.

Great venue with a view for brunch in the Catskills! The service was really fast. However, the food was average. The pulled pork sandwich lacked flavor (minimal BBQ/smokey taste). The burger was fairly average. It’s a smash burger that they serve. The shining star was the battered fries and the special sauce! Their special sauce is a peppery, smokey ranch. SO GOOD!

The New Year special menu was such a letdown at this highly rated restaurant. Despite the hype at the front desk around an acclaimed chef, the basic, store-bought bun burgers were far from the promised culinary experience. The cocktails, rather than being a highlight, tasted medicinal, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. The overall experience I felt failed to live up to the restaurant's reputation, making it clear that sticking to their regular menu might be the safer choice.

This restaurant is truly a hidden gem in the Catskills. They had some ups and downs with different chefs that kept changing, so if you came here before, scratch that and come again! The current chef’s Mexican-American cuisine is simply unbelievable. We had the corn and the chicken and were left wanting more of the delicious smoky flavors. The drinks and desserts were also amazing and the service impeccable. A perfect match for the beautiful greenery and mountain-view of the restaurant’s floor to ceiling glass window panes.

Good vibes. Congenial staff. Food is whatever. The portions weren’t bad in my opinion. However, the quality of the food is where I’m docking points. The gnocchetti ‘Al Tocco’ was bitter and unpleasant. The Prospect Burger tasted like the restaurant sourced their burger patties from the grocery frozen section. The sourdough bread wasn’t free, but it was worth it. The winter citrus salad was the best part of my meal. The cocktails were small considering the price, but otherwise not much else to complain about.I wish this restaurant was better. My stay at Scribner’s lodge was wonderful. It just sucks that this is the restaurant that’s attached to the lodge.

All dishes are very good though a little bit expensive. You can tell the menu was carefully designed and used seasonal ingredients. We’ve tried the smoked trouts appetizer, the autumn chicory salad, for main the trout, chicken, NY strip and pasta. Everything was very delicious and well presented. The server was nice but be careful there are default 20% tips added to all bills.

One of the worst restaurants that I've ever visited.Food was okay. I tried the burger and the taste was good even though the beef patty was a little bit raw. My family tried the tuna melted, that one was bland; the masa pancakes were horrible no taste.Drinks were OK also but the price is so expensive if we talk about quality. The service was the worst. Also I asked for coffee and they didn't gave me sugar or spoon. At the end they didn't even asked if we wanted something else before bringing the check.

This is a very nice spot in the middle of the Catskills Mountain region. Dinner was great but not quite excellent to warrant 5 stars. The Garden Salad featured locally grown vegetables from their garden, or so we were told. The toasted sunflower seeds were a nice touch. I ordered the Highland Hallow Pork Chop for my entree. Thought tasty, the cut I received was a bit difficult to eat as it was very fatty. I tend to like some fat on the meat but it was a little too much. The sides of shishito peppers and potatoes were excellent. I really enjoyed the olive oil cake for dessert.I would come here again to try other offerings.

Enjoyed a birthday dinner for my husband at Prospect during our weekend in the Catskills. The atmosphere is welcoming and warm and food is delicious. When I mentioned I am vegan, our waitress made sure to point out the various vegan mains and sides available, even providing a vegan delicious dessert option. Highly recommend for a quiet Catskills dinner.

We came here twice because we were staying in Scribner's. As far as the area goes, it's the best food for miles, by far. It's probably not even worth trying anything else. The brunch menu is absolutely perfect, and the dinner menu is very solid. For dinner we had the seabass (very good) and the cacio e pepe (which was kinda weird and had a thicker texture than the classic). The squash toast was great, but the Kale salad was tough and needed to be massaged.Breakfast was fantastic. Eggs Benedict was textbook. The other elements of brunch were great, and their smoked salmon and avocado was very fresh. Pancakes were delicious, light and fluffy.I recommend this place, but beware the price tags can get pretty high. Pricing kinda makes sense as they have an affluent crowd, but just be prepared it's not necessarily the best value in the area.

Winter: Great food and a great view! Service was quick and staff was friendly.Summer: I just came back in the summer and had an equally wonderful experience. My waitress, Natasha, was super nice and friendly! She even helped me plan a few things during my stay. Love it here!Parking: It's in a hotel which had a parking lot with plenty of spots

We went to Prospect for dinner as it was recommended to us, but we were honestly disappointed. We felt like the portions were way too small for the price of the dishes. The "half chicken", for example, felt more like "half pigeon". Not only that, but the preparation of the dishes was also off: the chicken was dry and only lukewarm, while the trout was overcooked.I would be OK with that if the prices were half of what we paid for and it was a restaurant with a huge menu, but in this case there's literally only 4 starters and 4 main courses to choose from in the dinner menu, so I expect them to be excellent given the low variety and their high prices, which sadly was not the case.

Overall great experience. Sat at the bar with Christopher, who is not only a fantastic bartender but also a friendly and personable guy; the drinks and his service were the best part! The trout toast was a hot and the perfect portion for two. The burgers were great and accompanied by some amazing fries. I’ll be back!

Breakfast was great here, Pancakes had a nice twist with masa in them which was not overwhelming. The fruit was perfectly ripe. Cold brew coffee was perfect as well.Kid-friendliness: We had our 2.5 year old with us and we sat in one of the booth like areas and this worked perfectly to keep her contained. She also had enjoyed in the past the fire place when it was lit and looking out the large windows.

Staying in the lodge for a ladies getaway weekend, and decided on having dinner on property. Although it's a very small menu the food and service was great. Members of our group enjoyed the sourdough bread, the risotto, kale ceaser salad, and the burger, along with the carrot cake for dessert. Our server was friendly and attentive, and happy to accommodate our requests for group photos.

Visited for our first time for mid-week breakfast. The restaurant was empty but the staff were very welcoming. Limited breakfast menu, drip coffee & latte were nicely flavorful and strong, latte was not unexceptional in a small stained cup & only 3/4 full cup. We both chose the omlette ($18!!!) with zuchini & cheddar cheese, which was unexceptional & the omlette caused a heaviness (even though I requested no cheese). It came with a side of fruit or potatoes. The side of fruit, which was nice & fresh (the best part of the meal) & the potatoes were sweet potatoes, which were unexpected but were pleasantly flavorful. We ordered a side of sourdough toast, which was chunky & fresh and came with a yummy berry jam. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. Truly an is an unexceptional breakfast for just under $60, which is astounding! Even with mountain views and the warm and (slightly beat-up) interior of the restaurant, it could not make up for the mediocre meal.

I recently dined at Prospect Restaurant during my 3-day stay at Scribner's Lodge in the Catskills, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. The service was really lacking; the staff seemed super confused at every course, which made the evening frustrating. The cost was surprisingly high for what we received, and to make matters worse, they were out of not just one, but two dishes on their already limited menu. As a vegetarian, it was especially challenging to find suitable options, and while the food we did manage to order was good, it fell short of being great. On a positive note, my husband enjoyed the burger. We had a $100 credit towards the restaurant which softened the blow a bit, but if I had been paying full price for the meal, I would have been more disappointed with the overall experience.

We’ve been to this restaurant a dozen of times since they opened. The place is beautiful and the vibe is great, however their recent switch in menu and increase in prices is disappointing. The Mexican American menu is decent, but the quality doesn’t match the price. The chicken for $50 and salmon for $55 is just a bit much. It was good, not great, and definitely nowhere near to quality you’d expect to justify such pricing. Just regular dishes you can get in other nice places in the Catskills. I must say all dishes here also came barely warm. I’ve always loved Prospect and how they used seasonal ingredients in their creative cuisine, the variety of pasta options and deserts, all of that was gone today and we will definitely miss it.

So.. a few years back, the food was devine!! However, something happened, and not only the menu has been modified, but the service is SO bad. It feels like they just don't care and like the staff are doing you a favor. They're not really familiar with the menu. Don't offer options, and the worst - the service is so slow. We waited for over 20-30mins. And the restaurant was not even half full, to say the least. Very disappointing.

Had dinner here for the first time and really wanted to like it. Despite other reviews, service we had was knowledgeable and attentive, though it took a long time to get drinks, then starters and then our mains. But I chalk this unexpected slowness to the kitchen on a night where the dining room was about 3/4s full. It was a full 2 hour meal for just starters and a main dish. What really was just middling was the food when price is taken into consideration. Everything we ordered was just “fine” — fried okra with bland breading, a bit too sweet corn bread, the fig toast was a notch above the rest but could have used a bit more of the tangy cheese. The bucatini was flavorful but oily, the burger meat was on the thin side, and the bbq 1/2 chicken was pleasant but closer to Cornish hen size with a sweet sauce that had a slight bit of heat — but no sides, just 4 slivers of okra (cut from two whole pieces) and a 1”x2”x2” cube of cornbread. Literally. Corn bread must be worth its weight in gold now.

Phenomenal food. Beautiful views. The service is excellent! If you are in the area, this is definitely a spot to visit. Also, check out their gift shop (the soap is amazing).

For the record there is nothing great I've found in the area yet.. And I'm here at the end of the season.I really really want to live this place.. The vibe is great, very cool, candlelit, boothes, old country in style. Service was very friendly and quick. There is a very limited menu at this time year (not the ones you see posted only in reviews)I got the bread, chicken and a beer. Bread (8$ for 4 rolls) and beer were great, chicken... Terrible. I couldn't put my finger on the exact problem it seemed drastically undercooked as it was super tough but when I checked in what limited light there was it didn't seem to be red so I really don't know... The manager explained it was smoked but I've just not in all my experience had anything smoke or otherwise with that quite consistency so I'm at a loss. The flavor was okay not great I was initially very excited as the first bite which was primarily skin had a really great glazing on it but things went downhill after that. On the plus side the manager removed the plate cost and didn't give a hassle about it. My son did get the Caesar salad which had a very distinctive staulk of lettuce appearance which may have been a special lettuce or just the way they prepared it either way he left his without eating it as well so it all fairness that could have been a function of that preparation that somebody might enjoy and we didn't raise it with the management.Again I would like to love this place and there are really not in my many years of coming here many Great ones if you're looking for an exceptional meal that you're willing to spend money on... Maybe other dishes are better but for the experience that we had I would say it was some part but services good and management was accommodating so...
