I love the Schoharie Animal Shelter. Lived in the county for 15 years and was always impressed with the care they provide their animals. "Word of mouth" is very important in the country and I never heard a bad word about them. So I saw a cat on Facebook I wanted to consider adopting and went to visit him. The Shelter was very clean, the animals seem happy and healthy, and the staff was very polite by phone and in person. Unfortunately the cat was not the right fit for me, but I will continue to follow the Shelter and donate money for the excellent care they provide!

I like the place.staff was friendly and courteous. Place felt comfortable. Very clean building. The air had a clean fresh scent. Not a overly sanitized smell. Has the feeling that the animals are well cared for. The staff is to be commended for the work they do with the limited resources they have. I'm quit thankful for the tremendous support and donations from community.

Drove an hour to adopt 2 kittens. It was busy when I arrived but Mary and her staff were so nice! Shelter was clean...the animals are very loved there.

Such a clean and nice animal shelter! The animals all looked well cared for and had plenty of room. The adoption process was pretty straightforward and easy as well. My mom is so happy with her new puppy!

We adopted a 3 year old pointer/hound mix about 5 months ago. We got to meet her and take her for a walk/play with her in the pen outside. The staff didn't know much about her past but gave us all the information they did know. They were all very sweet, upfront and honest about her. We are very happy to say she is the perfect fit for us and we have the Schoharie Valley Animal Shelter to thank. Highly recommend looking here for your furry friend.

Adopted a 2 yr old border collie mix and the staff was very informative and helpful! We went there a couple times to look at different dogs and they’re upfront and honest with their dogs behaviors and maybe not so popular personalities. Had contact with a different shelter before them and they seemed to candy coat their dogs flaws to get them adopted…we told this previous shelter all the traits we were looking for, and they told us every dog they had for adoption matched all the traits we wanted. So we made an appointment to meet one of them. This dog was nothing that we described. We wanted friendly, she wouldn’t go near us. We wanted a dog we could play fetch with, she was afraid of the ball. We wanted house broken, they said she’s 90%. But Schoharie Valley animal shelter never gave us the run around. And sure enough we found our new furry family member here. Would definitely adopt from them again!

If interested in adopting this is the place The staff is friendly helpful and let you take the time for a one on one meet. Even after the adoption is complete they keep in touch on how things are going with your new family member. Our new member Bella she's a Akita/boxer is a perfect fit and is a joy to have around.

First of all, I gotta say, this place is the place to go to if you are thinking of getting a dog or a cat. They do so much here, as well as bestow so much love and care unto these animals. They charge a very fair price for puppies, young dog or older dog. Same for cats. If you have any questions or concerns, a wonderful young lady who works there named Emma can assist you.

We adopted a sweet older cat from here in February. The staff was responsive, professional and kind. Our cat, Donald, was confirmed to be in great health by our vet. We would absolutely adopt from here again.

The staff was outstanding! !! We adopted a terrific cat named Biscuit. We could not have been happier with the way we were treated.You could also see how well Biscuit was taken care of while she was at the shelter!

The Schoharie Valley Animal Shelter is a really great place. The animals are no doubt very well taken care of and it's a clean and friendly environment. When volunteering, staff is polite and helpful. Over all, this business truly deserves a 5 star rating.

I've been using them as a vet for 11yrs with all 4 of my babies. Regular visits are fine but.... 2 yrs ago my 9 yr old German shepherd needed 2 teeth extracted that he cracked. Had to pay extra to do the full blood work up on him due to age. Surgery day was a Friday, he comes home not looking himself they say he's fine. They don't inform us that he aspirated (vomited laying down) during Surgery. During the weekend he doesn't move, won't eat. Kept breathing very hard was wheezing. Finally Monday comes, call them. Bring him in right away. Has phenomena stays there 3 days under iv & meds. On the 3rd day they call me, tell me at this point I would disconnect everything & let nature take its course & I'm like absolutely not!!! This is our family dog. Take him to upstate veterinarian hospital. He's fixed in 24hrs $3000.00 later.So then this past Tuesday our 1 yr old female rottweiler gets spayed, everything was fine except I don't feel like they have enough meds to keep her calm, ever try calming a 1 yr old 100lb rottweiler??? So then it's Sunday 5 days later her incision rips wide open, bring her to upstate veterinarian hospital.... 2 layers of her incision has opened, thankfully not the 3rd so her guts weren't hanging out!!! $1400.00 & 8 hrs later, her incision is closed back up with non dissolving stitches & she has a cone... not very happy with any Surgery that happens here!!! 2nd surgery, 2nd issue...

Me and my family adopted a dog from them recently his name is goober and they were so great highly recommend if ur ever looking to adopt they r the place to go you can tell the difference between shelter that actually want to find there dogs home asap and other that just don't care we have been searching for a dog and alot of shelter came screwing us around but not this place. Thank u again to everyone at this shelter we love goober and he loves us

Adopted Molly a female 1 yr old cat. Staff is absolutely amazing here. Very clean professional atmosphere. Would recommend adopting from here to anyone who is an animal lover who will appreciate a cat, dog, rabbit....As always be kind to animals and help with donations is greatly appreciated

The Animal shelter of Schoharie county is fantastic. Everyone was extremly friendly and helpful. We recently adopted two puppies and had a call the same day asking ehen we would like to pick them up. We absolutly love our boys. Thank you,Thank you Thank you to all the staff.

My cat died 6 months ago and my family decided to adopt a cat from here. We soon wanted a new cat to keep us company and we thought it would be perfect to get a cat from here. The people were very nice and helpful, they helped me and my family decide which cat to adopt. We ended up adopting a cat called Nutella, she was very skittish but they were sure she would warm up to us quickly. They were right, and now Nutella is the most loving cat of all time. It was the best fit for Nutella, my family, and me. Thank you to everyone at the Schoharie Valley animal Shelter.

The shelter staff have true compassion for thre animals they work with and really look to find the best possible match. Make note that the shelter collects recyclable/returnable bottles to help offset their costs so any donation of those when you pass by the area would be great for them!

Great place to get you a new fur baby go out and adopt a buddy, don't go get a buddy from one of those puppy mills its sad 2 see all these animals in the shelters waiting for you to come out and adopt them great CHRISTMAS BUDDY. ALL OF ADORABLE 🐕 DOGS AND 🐈 CATS

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! THEY WILL TREAT YOUR ANIMAL LIKE AN OBJECT AND NOT LIKE A LIVING SPECIES!! Please DO NOT give them your business or money, best to drive a couple hours out to a place that actually care about your animal and you and not about the money

They gave the cat away we picked out...to someone else even tho all the paperwork was filled out.... we were literally waiting for the call that we had been approved to "pick him up".... a week later....we called and they gave him way to someone elseI have adopted 2x's before from them.... it was a despicable thing to do..... really garbage behavior
