You can for sure learn something by coming into this museum. I spent about an hour here and left having a better understanding of shipbuilding in the area. As others have pointed out, watching the video is highly helpful and informative. There are a few things about this museum that struck me as odd, such as the winery areas in the basement. Overall, I think it’s worth checking out. Also, the man working here is very nice.

This museum was a lot better than I expected! Tons more to see than I originally thought. The old wooden boats were great to learn about. Seeing the old wine cellar was fascinating. They had two kids room with fun activities to occupy the kids. The staff were really friendly snd very helpful. I highly recommend this place to visit when in the Finger Lakes area.

Well worth the visit. Found out about this museum from the innkeeper at our B&B (Pleasant Valley Inn) and it was much better than we expected. Does a good job of presenting the history of boat-building in the Finger Lakes Region and has examples of many of the boats. The volunteers working there were very nice and knowledgeable.

Went there with a friend for a class on outboard motors. Class was not what we expected, but nonetheless it was fantastic and we learned what we hoped for. We also toured the museum and found it to be fantastic. It is a remodel of Taylor wines headquarters and done very well. Several pieces on display and stories to go with them. Three floors of displays plus you can go in the shop were they are rebuilding boats of the area. A beautiful treasure of history. Hammondsport seems like a cool little town to visit too (probably better in warmer months) They have tours on the water and plenty of places to eat.

The FLBM has an awesome collection of wooden boats, everything from canoes to speed boats, lake cruisers and launches. Most of the boats were produced by manufacturers located in the finger lakes region, e.g. Penn Yan. The Museum is actually in one of the buildings of the now defunct Taylor Wines. The boats and related items are displayed on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The ground floor is where the Taylor barrel room and tasting rooms are located. Some basically two museums for the price of one.

Great little museum. Good for a visit if you're in the Hammondsport area at the bottom of Keuka Lake. Lots of historic designs well restored. I think I found the boat I want but I don't think I could afford the Fay and Bowen!

Well laid-out, sweet little museum. Interesting stories and beautiful vintage boats. Pretty cool maze of a building too, fun to see what's around the next bend!

Impressive. If you like small boats, wood boats, or the history of the field Niger lakes you will really enjoy this museum. Even better you can take courses in wood boat building.

Amazing boating history. Love it. A little difficult to find if you don't have GPS but GPS will take you right there.Love the little video on the history of boats on the finger lakes. A lot of displays and 2 kids hands on areas. Lots of corners to explore. The volunteers that run it are fantastic explain the layout and what's going on. Parts of the winery that the building used to be are easy to spot.Loved seeing how big the wine storage barrels actually were. Plus the bonus room where they hold special events is amazing the artistic work is gorgeous

Excellent museum! George and Rick, two of the volunteers working in the workshop today, were so informative and we learned a great deal in a short period of time interacting with them. We wish we could stay in town longer to be part of the volunteer crew. If you are a boat lover, this is the place to go!

I am a new member and just visited for the first time briefly. I'll be sure to be back soon and give myself more time to peruse the AMAZING collection of vessels and talk to the very friendly volunteers. I look forward to supporting this wonderful museum and taking part in several of the classes offered as well. This is a sure winner for anyone with boating interests and any travelers visiting the Finger Lakes!

We had my Dad's life celebration there today (John Ford). The place was phenomenal!!! His work of antique and classic wooden boats was not in the building but his legacy was. So many showed to show their support and stories of my dad. I want to say thank you to all!!!!

I visited the Museum on a day things surrounding Pat II were not open to the public. I was visiting from CANADA. The hostess went out of her way to contact Mr. Ed Wightman. He drove to the museum and gave me a private viewing of the early work on Pat II when she was bottoms up. Great people help make a great museum.

Wonderful history of Finger Lakes boating! It was the main method of transport before trains, planes, and automobiles! And, to realize that the Lakes were connected to each other before the Erie Canal, was a mind boggler! Beautifully restored and original built boats. Sooooo glad I came!! My Dad, now 90, was visibly moved to see a restored number 130 "K" sailboat built by the Dundee based Wright's. Dad's was number 128 or so.While Keuka seems to have a winery every 10 miles apart, back in the day there were boat builders every 10 miles apart on the Lakes!Fact filled fascinating!!
