This place is amazing and great for a walk or run through the woods. Excellent for people of all ages and activity levels. The path is soft, flat and grassy. There are rest points along the way and plaques depicting historical images of the Erie Canal and its construction.Great bird views, and spots to check out the Mohawk River. Sometimes you’ll find cool things left behind by others.

Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site is a great place to visit! The site is beautiful and provides much to do. There are walking trails, a nearby bike trail, and a creek where you can kayak or fish. The historic tour is very good. The tour starts at the visitor center. On the tour you will be able to see the museum that presents interesting artifacts from the Erie Canal. You will also walk outside and see remnants of the original Erie Canal constructed in the early 1800's. As you approach the Schoharie Creek you will see the remains of the Schoharie Creek Aqueduct that carried boats over the Schoharie Creek. This aqueduct was was a marvel of engineering and was one of the best parts of the tour. The site provides numerous recreational opportunities. You can walk along the tow path of the original Erie Canal. A little down the road from the historic site you can also see the Yankee Hill Lock #28 and Putman Canal Store. This site was a "canal store" that primarily operated in the mid 1800's. This area is also very scenic. To get the Yankee Hill you can either drive, ride a bike, or walk from the visitor center. If interested you should take advantage of the nearby Empire State Bike Trail. It follows the Mohawk River and is very scenic. The nearby boat launch offers a place to launch a boat, kayak, picnic, or fish. It's very nice.Parking is easy and convenient. Call ahead for a tour. Tours are also cash only.

Awesome! I attended one of the seasonal monthly Monday informational programs. The staff and volunteers were very welcoming and the educator shared so many interesting facts about Tea, the topic for the talk. The Museum and grounds are important historical treasures. If you get a Monday off, attend one of these programs or just visit during their regular hours, you WON'T be disappointed.

I had a very nice gentleman explain to me the history of this location. Very cool. It amazes me that the Cornerstone of the fort never would have been found, unless the whole place flooded

This park is a beautiful well maintained piece of New York State history. Amazing Erie Canal Stone structures and remnants of the early settlers spread across several venues. Buildings are nice but not roped off with railings and velvet ropes. We had a nice old fashioned picnic under a shady tree. Relaxing first day of summer and nice memories.

Nice day for a walk with the dog. This Trail is like walking on a 15 foot wide lawn. Nice peaceful walk and you get to see a piece of history while you're doing it. Some ice, snow & mud here and there. There's a nice little rest area with a bench to sit down if you want to.

This is a great place especially in these COVID times as there is so much to do outside. The park is over three miles long and has the remains of many canal structures. The park should be fun even for the kids as you can climb all over the old stonework and pretend that you are a canaler. As someone said, these remains are the Mayan ruins of New York. The park should be of interest to history and nature buffs as there is a lot of water to attract birds and other critters.

Wonderful place to take a beautiful walk in nature. As one review mentioned, it is like walking on a well groomed lawn that you can walk on for miles. 90% of the path is shaded in the summer. There are historic signs and exhibits along the way.

Absolutely beautiful the autumn is breathtaking with the colors that come alive the red, yellow , green, burnt sienna , sugar maple trees bring this area to life about 15 minutes from Oneonta, NY and Delaware County there are so many sights to see historic, farms etc. The town has beautiful cobblestone roads with an unmatched view of the mountains; approximately 200 miles outside of NYC this is well worth the trip. The Schoharie River is being cleaned up and under remediation . The covered bridges are a beautiful site.

Huge area to explore the aquaduct on both sides of the river. The visit center is small, but well worth the visit if you have any questions regarding the site or surroundings.

A beautiful park by the Mohawk where one can sit and relax by the river. You could even BBQ and/or fish if you want. Please go to the Yankee picnic area for all of this.

It was very peaceful. A good place to fish in warmer weather or a great place to think about how your day is going. A place where a person can really relax and not stress.

Can't beat a small museum for friendly people passionate about their museum. A great place to envision the first historic Erie Canal as it once was.
