First time first impression.....Toooo many animals need homes! Center looks good in condition and animals look well cared for. Able to free roam around to see cats dogs in major variety. Same day take home in some cases others able to register for. Many peaceful animals ready for unconditional love! ❤️

Caring volunteers/ staff. The place is pretty sad looking, but they do an important job caring for these precious animals. I wish they had more green space for the dogs. 🏻

Very nice staff, the animals some loose are anxious for attention. The cages are clean, they all had food and water, seems like it's a full-time job trying to keep up with cleaning and feeding frenzy. Not sure on the adoption policies however I am thinking it's an easy process. They have a great selection of cats and dogs needing a home, give them a visit.

They stole my fiancée's dogs remains from the spca and managed to hide the fact for almost 2 months and denied they have them even after the spca told us they did. The director is rude fat shaming pos, the animal control officers having lousy rude attitudes.

I have been caring for a stray cat for months. I felt I couldn’t keep it where I live with elderly people. Habitat came and got the cat. They were so nice to call me and tell me the cat had a chip in ear and was called Bella. I had become very fond of cat and was so sad and worried about it. Thanks to the Habitat Bella is home safe and warm!!❤️

I've been trying to call to get details about adopting a dog for over I've left multiple messages and no one has called me back I think he's very unprofessional and I've never seen a place like this you can't take 3 minutes of your time to call somebody back which means you're sitting in front of the phone all day long watching it ring and not answering it

Animal control refused to assist with a dog that viciously attacked 2 people. Said it's the pet owners problem. The owners attempted to have the dog removed from home to be destroyed and they said they don't do that.

We stopped over to complete some paperwork with Officer Tabitha. The visit went very well. I feel so badly for the animals there. They are well taken care of. There was no foul odors & their stalls are kept very clean. They have cots for resting/sleeping, blankets, toys, snacks, bowls of food & water & lots of attention!Visitors were coming by with donations of ALL kinds! I picked up a list of donation needs before I left. The staff is very kind. That HAS to be a tough job!

Often over looked critters. We came to spread some cheer with treats and time to let them know they are loved no matter how they ended up at the shelter. We adopted our cat from here several years ago...as a kitten he is a great companion. The runt of his litter. You'd never know that now.

We have taken them two cats (not ours, but ones that were hanging around for months) in the last couple years. They have taken them in and have never given us a hard time about it. Such a relief knowing that you have someplace to take animals that you are truly concerned about. I plan to make a donation very soon!

0 stars! A few weeks ago, I rescued a few kittens and tried to find homes for them. I found homes for all except one and was unable to keep her myself. I am a PA resident and called all of the animal shelters and sanctuaries in my area and was no one was able to take the remaining sweet little girl that I had left. So, I began expanding my search. I called the Elmira Animal Shelter and let them know my story and asked if they could take her in. They had told me that it would be no problem. I had asked them to provide me with their address so I could punch it in my GPS, as I was not familiar with the area and told them that I would bring the kitten up later in the day.I collected up the kitten and drove over an hour to the Animal Shelter. When I walked in, I had told them that I had called earlier that morning and was there to drop off the kitten. I was then informed that they did not take animals outside Chemung County and accused me of lying about calling earlier that morning, and wanted to see my cell phone and review my calls to PROVE that I in fact did call them! Very upset at the invasion of personal property AND being accused of being a liar, I took the kitten and left.I was only trying to be a responsible person and try to find a suitable home for one of God's creatures, instead of dumping her out on the side of the road in the middle of no where, which is where she was found. At this point, I will continue looking to find a home for this baby girl on my own and will never trust a facility that is supposed to be there to help creatures who are unable to help themselves!

I'm posting this for a friend. She adopted a cat from the shelter named Elbie. She is loving being in her new home. Shes adjusted to the other cats in the home. Shes also getting spoiled and sassy. Cindy is so happy to give her a good home. She loves her. She sees elbie loves being with her. She so much appreciated getting her from the shelter. She was told she was there for over 100 days. So blessed to have her.

It wasn't the best place I would recommend to people for adopting an animal here unless they really fell they need too. It's smells more than it should. And I don't think people take good care of the site or animals that are within it.Sorry but that's my overview of this facility.

Went in wanting a younger cat, found a nice girl at "11 Months" of age on her tag. Noticed on her paperwork before signing was 1 year, which okay that's fine, after getting her home she ran and hid from our other cat and we thought it was a little odd for a 1 year old cat but gave her space. We then called to set up her vet appointment and her Vaccine paper claimed she is 4 years old! We love her anyway and are going to keep her but this is kind of dirty and wrong. I called the shelter and they confirmed her Vaccine papers were correct and "They must have not updated the other paperwork."Before adoption from this shelter and going in expecting to get a certain age range be sure to check all paperwork as it seems they don't keep everything checked. I feel bad for my newly adopted older at getting harassed by by 9 month old kitten but she is coming out of her shell and its only been 48 hours. They really are good people but it is also kind of our fault for not checking over ALL the papers so be sure to just do that!

staff are so rude for no reason, i was apparently being disrespectful because i was looking at the “meanest dog” while getting yelled at by staff member because i apparently can’t look at them LOL, staff here have no control irl so they try to control little girls
