My birds and I absolutely love this store I don't get to come all that often because I caretake for my 94 year old Grandma now but I do specialty Arucana/Americana mixes and various crested chickens and love how we are all welcomed in this store and they have wonderful rewashable fire hardened reptile bedding that is perfect when I have to bring precious flock members indoors at night due to predators

Absolutely garbage They never have anything you actually need in supply, and their customer service is atrocious especially that old blonde woman who works behind the front counter. She’s honestly awful. I don’t know how she hasn’t gotten fired yet considering that she’s gotten prices wrong multiple times and I’ve had to come back in the store to get a refund because of how incorrect she charged me several times and she had a horrible attitude towards customers if I could give zero stars I would .

FIVE STARS ⭐️ for the staff! They are incredible. Forrestt and the rest of the crew are always so helpful and super friendly. They even help load up my large orders with smiles on their faces. I love having some place within driving distance to get Kalmbach. One star deducted because I pick up a monthly order and there are always missing items, sometimes critical items. I have yet to receive a complete order. In all fairness though, I’m not 100% sure if this is fault of Kalmbach or the store.

Edit: I recently posted about bad service in the Cortland CountryMax store. This issue was promptly taken care of and and I thank everyone that reached out and made this right. I now have purchased the snake and this store has proven it deals in good faith.I'm very disappointed in this store. I was in there to purchase a snake. There was no sign on the cage saying it was unavailable. I went to get help with getting it and one of the girls said that someone was trying to buy Erichs snakes. I thought that was weird. Then she told me it was unavailable because her coworker was going to buy it. What kind of store allows this as a policy. Do not recommend. I will be shopping online from this point on. I tried hard to keep my business local. But when policies like this exist. Why bother.

If you close the dog wash at 6:30 you need to have that posted somewhere. And don’t say you close it at 6:30 so you can clean it for the next day because when we walked in at 6:32 the lights were off and no one was in there. This is bad business and laziness. You have lost a customer.

Scam Alert: Keep your receipts if you're participating in their dog food program. I've been going there for over 2 1/2 years to buy dog food. I have 2 dogs so I go about every month. I'm sure I've missed a month occasionally traveling, etc. I'm also sure I have WELL over the 12 purchases to get a free bag.Two visits ago I was told they had 7 purchases in the computer. No way, but it was a young cashier so I inquired again at my next purchase. Same thing: still 7 bags (even though a new one just got added). I explained that the number should be much higher. She was nice but could only suggest coming back when a manager was in. Today I finally had a chance to ask about it. First I was greeted with an "I don't even recognize you" by the woman behind the counter. So from the start its clear they have no interest in helping me or listeningto my concern. The assistant manager chimed in, showed me I had seven bags in the computer, but had no explanation for many missing purchases. He said he had no power to do anything, repeatedly cut me off, and said I should call corporate headquarters.Hometown businesses wonder why community members stop supporting them and go to big box stores...I don't want to, but if my local store takes an accusatory approach and sends me to corporate that's the end of shopping local there.

If you’re looking for quality supplies then this store is a go to. However do not buy fish from here. Half of their tanks are always empty, and the other half are full of dead ones. They said they were having supplier issues for months. We’ll get a new one then. Employees also put non compatible fish together in tanks. Employees do not care and do not take dead fish out of tanks and several have clearly been dead for a while. We got a special order for an angelfish. When we got called that they had arrived, we went to get them and the babies had all been killed because they had been put in a tank with agressive fish.Like I said though their supplies and rodents are fine but I will not buy fish again.

great place, pet friendly. Good selection. Prices are a little high but they have specialty things so to be expected. Pretty decent gardening area as well. Only complaint is with a specific brand (fox farm ocean forest) of potting soil mix. Bought one from another store and 2 bags from here. Both bags bought from here were off. They were heavy, wet, and clumpy. Didn't have as much peat moss as was in the other bag I bought. Not the stores fault though, more an inconsistency with Fox Farms. Would recommend.

I love this store. The staff is always super helpful and knowledgeable and for a person that has an animal that requires live feed their insects are more hearty than anywhere else in the area. I wish I had gotten the name of the woman who helped me today to give her the amount of kudos she deserves. She answered all of my questions about my beardie to help me take the best care of my pet. Thank you!

This is a good store for all kinds of needs. I can buy fish food for the pond, plants and trees plus fertilizer and get my propane tank filled. It's a popular spot with friendly service all the time. Thanks!

I have to drive 40 minutes from outside of town to come here. I have always called ahead and asked if what I needed was in stock. Multiple times I’ve been told everything I need is there only to show up to nothing in stock. This has happened more than once with both feeder fish and mice. I called once and the girl said she didn’t know what was in stock because she worked at the front desk so I had to ask her to check for me. She told me there were medium sized feeder fish and when I showed up there were none. I feel like she didn’t even go check and if she did then she had no idea what she was looking for. Same thing with mice: ask for large adults, show up to pinkies. I have given this place so many chances but I’m done. Pets a Plenty right down the road is amazing and great customer service. Very helpful and know their stuff!

Most of the time I love shopping here. The staff is usually very friendly and helpful. Today however I was buying 2 Seresto collars and the sign hanging on the locked up case said save $5 on each collar but they rang up full price and the cashier didn't even care when I pointed out the sign. Then we need horse feed and have to point out on her sheet the right ones. I could understand if she was new but she isn't. I try to shop local but if your not going to honor the savings then I'll just order online for now on.

Over heard a conversation between the store manager and an associate. He had told the associate that he sees all others working there as expendable. I find this to be disturbing and don't know how long he has been there, but I hope his attitude changes. I asked other associates if the place is understaffed and got a "yes" from everyone. Apparently there's a high turn over. It's a shame because it seems like a nice place to work.

The staff are very helpful! I needed an expert to help me find the right products for my tortoise, and the gentleman who was there knew exactly what I needed, and didn't once make suggestions for overpriced products! He helped me find what I needed at a decent price and I couldn't be happier!

I can only speak from a pet owner perspective as I've never shopped for anything else.They carry the essentials and some extra goodies. Definitely one of the best (only a few in area) places to buy pets such as birds and guinea pigs. Their pricing can range from average to over on most items but being a locally owned and operated company it's understandable.

Just bought a blue parakeet on 4/10/2022, he is loving his new home thank u guys so much...a 4 star due to the cages being slightly dirty, and the other parakeets had slightly damaged feathers on their tails, other then that awesome experience.

I have had great experiences here in the past. However, over the past few months I have noticed that customer service is terrible. The employees are not helpful and sometimes just plain rude, going so far as to sigh and roll their eyes to other employees when a customer is politely asking for help. I have personally witnessed this behavior with other customers I don't know, as well as experienced it myself. This store also has not seemed to have anything that is in their sales flyers. It just seems to be going down hill.

I love this store. I’ve been shopping here since before they moved into their new location ! They always have everything I need for my multiple pets, plants , garden needs & the staff has consistently been remarkably helpful as well as nice. I prefer this place hands and paws down over any of the big chain stores.

Teriible customer service from store manager, Forest. I spend hundreds of dollars there annually and to be treated with disrespect or regard to solve a return I feel is unacceptabe. I recently purchased dog biscuits that my dogs refused to eat. The package stated if for any reason you are not happy with this product you may return to the store of purchase for a full refund with a receipt. Forrest refused to honor this guarenteed return as stated on the bag. I will be forwarding my complaint to corporate Country Max, since I complied with the rules of said return and the purchase was only 3 days old.

Well stocked and staffed on the Saturday before Christmas for speedy checkout. They had floor staff roaming about to assist with those large purchases such as bird seed and dog food as well as to help with questions. Nothing better then a store that consistantly provides great customer service.

This is one of the best places to visit for anything pets, birds, plants. They have an awesome staff headed by a gentleman named Forrest who is without a doubt the smartest and well informed person in this industry. It's amazing how much knowledge he has about all their products. They have plenty of parking with easy access just off Tompkins street. Their garden center is really great. You can get propane tanks filled and then load up on bulk bird supplies. A great place to have in Cortland.

This is my ferret diesel. he is around three months old. i got him from your country Max store in Cortland. I drove 2 hours to get him.because I've always wanted a cinnamon or light-colored ferret.the Cicero store where I got my other very healthy ferret did not have ferrets in and neither did the other country max around the area.now i understand you guys only have a 5 day guarantee but for the fact of my ferret to have sugar problems and possibly cancer with only being under 3 months of age tells me that this is an issue from a breeder you guys get your ferrets from!i'm pretty sure you guys will not be helping out with anything because like I said you'll have a five-day guarantee which honestly 5 days is not long enough!thank you so much for selling me a sick ferret!what all I want to do was get a friend for my other little guy.this is why I hate buying animals I have looked into rescues but to no luck!I was really starting to like you guys it was not minding the over an hour drive just to come to your store and spend money but I'm seriously rethinking it!

Wish I got her name... the cashier was so sweet. I have two small children and go here for dog treats and a lil field trip... she was super positive when we came in the door and asked the kids to help her scan our items at checkout. Great customer service still exists!
